  1. Wow very cinematic! Did you use a black Promist? Or added the glow in Resolve? Grab an actor make a short!
  2. Heyho, one year ago Grimes dropped some greenscreen footage on the internet and asked everyone to create their own music video. We did a remix and used Unreal engine and after effects to create the following video. As these were our first steps into the realm of Unreal engine and keying there are some quirks ( sh**tty keys = sh*ddy kiez) but overall it's really incredible what can be done on a basic computer today. I guess that lighting and vfx work is really where it's at now and the camera is not the bottleneck anymore - of course this does not go for the Documentary Filmer or Wild life photgrapher. Nevertheless check it out...
  3. Wow, active facecooling - GAMECHANGER!
  4. Hey everyone thank you very much for all your replies! These are the insights i was looking for. I guess i will do some tests before starting the project! Best regards, Chrille
  5. Hello, i am planning to shoot a little action oriented short this summer and i am thinking about doing so with the Blackmagic Production Camera. That little brick that offers 4K and a global shutter. It seems to be quite quiet around that camera. So i would love to hear wether anyone still uses it regularly. I believe most of the limitations are based on the limited dynamic range ( which might really be bad in the Hamburg mixture of (a bit of ) sunshine and (lots of) rain in the summer). I am aiming to finalize a 2K master so i do not need crispiest 4K around. I am also very interested wether somebody used it on an ronin-sc Gimbal. So i would really like to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
  6. Check my latest Musicvideo for the wonderful "Ducks on Drugs" Shot on A7iii in HLG2. Was very happy how natural the material looked compared to Slo2 , of course had to ramp up the colours for the final rendering.
  7. Check out this little Gangsta rap video - A7III / Ronin SC / Chamaeleon Optics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi70p8ufYcE
  8. Some Weeks ago i had the pleasure to shoot a cowboy themed project for DUCKS ON DRUGS. Animals, Children, Actionscenes - you name it! Any feedback is welcome.
  9. Here is a new video shot on the Sony A7iii and the Zeiss 20mm noctilux. A really nice lens that really takes some of that sony videolook off the material. It's the first time i experienced the "lines" problem of the A7iii. In quite a lot of shots you see steady "zebra" lines all over the picture. I shot some material without fog and some with fog and the shots with fog showed the problem very strong. As i shot the material quite flat the stripes did not show very well and i thought they were a problem of monitoring in the dark surrounding. It seems that one of the lights is working on another frequency. In retrospect it might have helped to change the shutter speed but as that would have add the potential to get problems with other lights. After adding contrast the problem kicked in quite heavily. I might have the possibility to upload some ungraded material later on. Looking at the big screen i would also have loved to work on 10 bit material as the artifacts started popping up quite heavily. Luckily the artist was looking for a "rough look" so it was okay. As usual i am looking forward to feeback and would be happy for things to improve!
  10. Sadly still no Alexa like skin tones, but many things look like this will be a nice work horse for the coming years.
  11. It's fun that the rumored specs basically exceed the specs of Sonys flagship cinema camera (venice).
  12. The guy still knows how to impress: He shot this on an a6300. I believe in HD. You can also download the source file on the vimeo page.
  13. I guess in ten years some 18 year old will shoot something great with 8K on the old used Canon R5 that he bought for cheap. 🙂
  14. I think it would be great to ask them to implement a 2,8K Mode on the GH5 or GH5S via firmware at the max. 4K Bandwith that might add to the quality of the picture i guess. Given that this is one of the learnings that came up in the last time i believe that would be something that they could do to make their customers happy...
  15. I think photography and shooting video are just different fields. I even feel it when i am on holiday and i try to go back and forth between shooting video and taking pictures - it seems to need different parts of the brain. What i really like about shooting video (big or small) is that you start with some kind of concept and you go and shoot the video. After the shoot you sit in editing with the new material and wondering wether everything will work out. If it works out it's nice. I experience the same problems that Andrew is mentioning quite often as well. A Zoom to early, ibis kicking in, a Lut working totally different in a slightly different light condition. It's something that is strange about new cameras: It's very seldom that you are really positively surprised from what you get be accident - as in analog photography or sometimes even in Mini-DV where you accidently had created that "looks like film". Nevertheless i feel that with every video you add something to your knowledge arsenal that you can build upon. In a perfect world you would always see in which direction you want to grow - be it lighting, concept, directing, working with a bigger team, etc. As to the whole "young people don't know" what they are doing thing - i believe it's easier to get to the mid level these days (as it's vast), but going to the top level still is as hard as 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago. Ridley Scott compared his first commercial work to instagram jobs in a recent interview - shooting 2-3 commercials per week (as Director and DOP), and i believe he was in his mid 20s as well at the time.
  16. Hello, check out this music video i shot on the A7iii and the 24-70 F 4.0. Picture Profile was Slog. All the real time shots were recorded to a atomos. Even using a controlled lighting situation i find it pretty hard to get nice skintones out of the camera. Luckily a friend of mine is a good grading artist. Nevertheless it was much fun trying to create this sci fi mood with some basic elements such as black trash bags and a pieces of plastic. I had a set of zeiss contax lenses but one of the contax to ef adapters left a nice scratch in my sigma adapter on the first set up. For a project like this were the time is very limited it is also very helpful to have a zoom lens to get the framing right as fast as possible. But next time i will try them further! Well, of course the band would be very happy if you would comment or like the video and i would be very happy if you could follow my youtube channel.
  17. Thank you! Somehow the Atomos picture had a little more contrast. Easy to fix in grading but in the first moment i put it in Premiere i thought: wow, the atomos stuff looks much crispier... Sony Skin tones are a thing - i am still looking for a way to give them a natural feeling.
  18. Heyho, check out this little video i shot for german based band Trebor. Shot on A7iii and Atomos. Surprisingly the material from the a7iii looks a bit different than the one from the atomos. Light was changing heavily throughout the shoot ( big windows) so it was kind of hard to keep the light consistent. I could set up a light for the close ups. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z222A3aCRqQ P.S.: Of course the band would be very happy if you could leave a like or a comment...
  19. Hi everyone, check out this little musicvideo i shot on the Sony A7iii with standard optics. I used a tiffen black promist 1/8. Also used it in the sunlight shots which did not make too much sense. Some of the shots were recorded to an atomos recorder. Graded in Premiere. Sadly i did not own a Gimbal at that time... https://www.youtube.com/embed/YQyMdkgUIjI
  20. Check out this little musicvideo i shot with the A7iii . The combination of Youtube compression and Lumetri looks force the pink skintones in some shots to TO THE MAX!
  21. As usual this makes me wonder what makes Vimeo go this route. I believe this must be massively reducing their number of clients. I guess it's quite hard (and expensive) for a smaller player to fight these legal battles regarding copy rights. But the lack of communication is an absolut downer. I am still really fond of the whole Vimeo universe. I still love that you can ask all these incredible artists direct questions regarding gear, lighting and techniques and the rate of replies is very high.
  22. Hyy everyone, i own a Sony A7iii for approximately 4 month. I recently shot a live concert and used different modes: 4K, HD 100 fps etc. After approximately 1 hour on and off shooting the camera told me that it will shut down due to heat. Since then the camera is acting strange. For example it is froze up in playback mode and would not even switch off when i flip the switch? I have not installed the latest firmware yet and i am wondering wether i should do that or return it to the reseller right away? I have searched this forum but it seems that no one else has encountered this problem? Edit: P.S. if this belongs into the Sony A7iii thread it would be great if one could let me know.
  23. Hey everyone, just finished another little Video for German Band "Neonschwarz". We had a one day shoot on RED. Check it out!
