Dear all, I recently bought the Micro Cinema and the Video Assist from BlackMagic. I also use a GH4, so I tried to record it in ProRes HQ via HDMI on the Video Assist. Everything ok until I went 60 fps. In that case I had some problems with dropping frames. Of course I use the SanDisk Extreme Pro they suggest. Have you the same problems? Do you have any suggestion? Thank you very much!

I had a nice set of FD and I loved them, now I have a set of Contax Zeiss and I find that they are super: better construction, better feeling when you use them, better sharpness at wide open aperture (the FD 50 f/1.4 and the FD 85 f/1.8 where unusable wide open), great color rendition. The only drawback is the number of blades for the bokeh, most CY have just 6 blades. But wide open they are very close (someone says identical) to Zeiss Primes.

I love it, but in Italy it cost a lot more then 299 they say on the website! I have to find something similar but a lot cheaper http://www.amazon.it/Rolleiflex-Robusta-Videocamera-Digitale-Selezionata/dp/B00TQWWGLO

I ordered the Micro with Video Assist, but I'm searching a smaller/cheaper option for quick gig, possibly a 3" LCD easy to mount without rig: any suggestion is more then welcome
-
I have it at home, but I have to rig it with the monitor and I don't have a rig, so I'm waiting to buy it in order to shoot something. Of course I made some test at home, the quality is just awesome, but it takes a little more then my other camera (GH4) to go out and shoot, because it is a part of a bigger system, it is not a DSLM. Of course I'd love to have a little 3" monitor to just use it as a DSLM for quick work, but I've bought it for the gig where I have some time, not for run and gun situations.

A friend of mine uses his G7 with BlackMagic Video Assist via HDMI and has no problems.

Thank you Zak!

Thank you very much Zak! Mine just arrived, this evening I'll shoot some test crossing fingers Is this issue visible also in ProRes? Huge thanks for your kind help!

Zak, do you think it is something that needs to send the camera back to BM to be fixed? Thank you Giostrante. In my humble opinion lots of cameras have issues: the V-Log from GH4 is way noisy in dark environment (in my personal experience, probably some other people will be happy with that), the CineD has some strange color cast on skin tones, but I feel that I have amazing images with that, compared with the Canon 70D I had. Sony A7s is great in low light but I don't like the final file that much (again, my opinion), the amazing 6300 has this overheating problem... Every camera has some amazing features and we need to accept compromises in order to have cheap cameras. Or, we need a lot of money for an Alexa I hope BM could solve all those issue from Pocket, Micro etc... because their files are the most cinematic I see at those prices... (in my opinion they also should give us some better ergonomics... I always say that I love the BM files, but I love also the easiness of use of GH4). Things like ISO, shutter, WB etc... should be easily accessible.

Giostrante, do you have this problem on the Pocket or also on the Micro? I ask, because they should have different sensor, so hopefully the issue could be fixed via FW update. BlackMagic is a "little" company (compared to Canon, Sony, Panasonic...) and probably they need inputs on problems like those from real world user, but, in my humble opinion, noise or not it is more convenient a BM or a GH4 then a Canon 80...

Zak, in all the shadows or just in severely underexposed images? I mean: it is something that destroys all images or something acceptable that no one would notice in normal shots?
-
That's perfectly acceptable for my taste: with my GH4 I have other issues but they all are things normal (as today) for a digital camera. This is a very dark shot and it is not very "cinematic" per se: this problem would be unacceptable if it destroy a well exposed (or slightly underexposed) image, but you would not underexpose so hardly normally. Each camera has pro and cons, I do love my GH4, and I hope the Micro that will arrive today will be as good as the Pocket I had, just with 60 fps and a better batteries' life my 2 cents
-
My micro is arriving today at home... I hope this problem it is something manageable... or I will have to sell it...

Maybe because it's a shame that you can have amazing files with 5DkIII and ML (and EOS mount) and they still ignore this...

Dear all, I'm going to buy the MicroCinema, do you think BM Video Assist is a good option for monitoring or there are some cheaper good solutions (such as Aputure VS1HD or even 30 $ car monitors...)? Thank you very much!
-
It's a great camera for the next 2009 summer!!
-
Thank you!
-
Super good and filmic look! Great! I'm going to find one! Do you know where to buy a similar rig/cage in Europe (or something that could work with BMMCC and a monitor)?
-
Wow!! thank you!
-
wow!! Great!!! thank you! Amazing cage, follow focus and rig!! i hope I can find something similar here in Italy! I'm thinking to Video Assist for the monitor, but maybe there are some better choices, like your smallHD one

Thank you very much for all your tips! I think I'm going to buy the Micro Cinema for my personal projects or for shots without rush. What about external monitor solution? Is the Video Assist the best bet, since it also records 60p? Or there are some cheaper monitor that could be worth to consider? Thank you very much!! Thank you for your precious advices! I loved your GH4 images, so I think BMMCC have to be something really special! Next week I'll try to search it! Do you think the m43 Olympus 12-40 f/2.8 is wide enough with it or I have to search something wider? How do you rig it with an external monitor? Thank you very much!

I loved my Pocket files, but for easiness of use I switched to a GH4. I tried using Cine-D, V-LogL and Andrew' settings, but I finally find that Natural (with contrast and saturation all the way down) is my cup of tea. Of course I miss that nice flat profile and now, with MicroCinema (60 fps, better batteries' life etc.) I'm thinking to buy it with a monitor, maybe the Video Assist (or some cheaper that does not record). Do you think it could be a good choice for a less-digital look or the Sony A6300 (APS-C) with his S-Log is a better option? Thank you very much for your tips p.s. (I don't want to use any Speedbooster, I have an Olympus 12-40 f/2.8 and a nice set of Zeiss CY)

Sony A6300 review (rolling) - Striking image but nagging issues
JazzBox replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@Andrew Reid I normally use a GH4: do you think 6300 could be a better option for music videos, shorts... or BlackMagic MicroCinema is a best bet? -
Dear Andy, do you think the BlackMagic Video Assist could be a good monitor/recorder for 1080p with G7 / GH4? Do you know any workaround to have some kind of curves in FCPX?? Thank you very much! p.s. (your Natural setting is my goto now! CineD bye bye!)

I think I have to buy it :D Thank you!!!
