The crop on the X-T2 isn't too bad, really. The real weakness appears to be the requirement of the battery grip to get the headphone jack, and reasonable record times in 4K. Depends on the kind of shooting you do, of course, but those two things would bother the hell out of me. It'll be interesting to see how Canon screws up the XC15 that's coming. I don't know if that's supposed to be at Photokina or later, though. Nothing is known about it at this time other than that it's coming.

Nothing will 'force' Canon to get their act together. Canon is the Donald Trump of camera makers. It's the greatest, and if you don't agree, you're a loser. You'll buy what they make and you'll like it, too.

You still want IBIS even when using a gimbal. I've seen test videos showing the difference, and it's noticeable. You even want IBIS and lens IS going with a gimbal - that is even noticeably better than IBIS-only or lens iS-only.

As someone online said recently, this camera is a firmware upgrade away from greatness. Yeah, I wish it had 10-bit 4K and IBIS (and lower native ISO), but all that with in-camera recording is another camera generation away. No need to miss out on what this camera can do now while waiting. They really do need to work on their lens lineup, though. I hope Sigma comes out with some cine art lenses for Sony mounts...

Keep in mind they also jump-started their ILC division by acquiring Konica-Minolta, thus gaining access to tech & people with decades of experience.

I think Samsung merely miscalculated how long it takes to break into a new market, especially one with products that are pricey. I wish they had sucked it up for another couple of years, came out with an NX2, an NX600, and a crap-ton more lenses, and they would've had a pretty good shot, especially if they had set up a pro support network. Half-hearted efforts won't cut it against competition like Canon, Nikon and Sony. Even Fuji & Olympus have made decades of experience in the field. It's the height of hubris to think they could just jump into the photo game and success in a short amount of time in anything other than the point-n-shoot part of the market. The deep end of the pool requires you to be able to swim and defend yourself against what else is in the water.

Perhaps not Sony, but Panasonic is pretty good price-wise. Not as great as Blackmagic, but certainly affordable, and they're pushing the edge of technology/$ very nicely, and have been for a while now. I was actually wondering if that was the case. That, at least, makes sense for Sony. Unlike the case with Canon trying to protect sales of their Cinema line, but instead losing sales to other companies. This would've made a purchase of Samsung's photo technology a coup for Nikon. Missed opportunities...

I'm really looking forward to what the GH5 will bring. And the LX200. And FS5 firmware updates. Blackmagic just doesn't seem to have the resources to implement things like IBIS, Auto-ND, etc., so unless they pull a miracle out of their hat at this year's NAB (and actually ship this year), Sony is going to have the chance to bring their tech down to something near the same price point - and actually ship products people can buy. This seems to be a make or break year for Blackmagic. I'd kind of like Sony or Panasonic to buy Blackmagic. Imagine that 4.6k sensor with IBIS and Auto-ND in a body like the A7S, or LX100. Or a modular system with the base the size of the Micro Cinema (which still isn't shipping with the measly Full HD sensor!). Canon (and Nikon) still seem to have their collective heads up their asses, for whatever reasons. A mirrorless 5D4C would take the world by storm, but you know that's never going to happen.

Auto-ND is a game-changer.

The Osmo is the gimbal, which is being offered with the X3 camera for $649. The gimbal will be available separately in case you already have an X3 or X5Pro/R camera. The X5Pro and X5R are separate cameras compatible with the Osmo.

Ahh, Sigma. I'd really love to see them hit the market like a hammer with a Cine Art lens series.

Everything I read about this camera makes me really excited for an A7S II. (that's not a knock on this camera)

​I want all that PLUS 4K so that I can down-sample to an amazing 1080 picture. I'd even be happy if it was a 4K sensor that recorded straight to that downsampled 1080.

I was hoping for a combination of these two - 4k/30p and 1080/60p, global shutter - 13 stops DR. I may have to buy one of each for different purposes, along with their new 5" monitor/recorder (I wonder if that will work on my Pocket?). Pop one of these on a Nebula 4000 Lite (really hoping for a new version of that at NAB, btw), and Bob's yer uncle!

Check their site for details - all the products are up - including their 5" monitor/recorder. There IS a $2995 URSA Mini, but it's a '4K' version (as opposed to the '4.6K'), with a different sensor - 12 stops.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about Canon until _after_ they actually announce something. If Canon were a character in Peanuts, it would be named "Lucy".

Ah, Mac-only? That's a shame.

And, the official specs are out now on the T6i and T6s and the M3, and wow, time to sell my Canon gear except for the few lenses I'll be using with my BMPCC w/ EF SpeedBooster. *sigh*

Now if they replace the firmware with something Magic Lantern-like, with decent modern codecs, this would be nearly impossible to beat (though another few grand off the price would also be very good).

Ouch! :) As for Canon's EF lenses, well, that IS the only thing they're protecting at this point, but if Sigma and others keeps coming out with equivalent (or much better) product than Canon does at substantially lower prices, it's game over for that part of their business, too. I'm very interested in what Canon does with the 5d Mk IV, but only for curiosity's sake. If all they do is add 4k and only marginally improve the image quality, that's pretty much the most I expect from them - shooting to duplicate Sony technology from a year ago. If Sony gets their 21-stop sensor out in an A7S Mk II or A8S (and especially if they can put in 10-bit 4K recording in-camera), that's pretty much it for Canon in the indie video/film world as far as I'm concerned. If they can really go for it and do IBIS, that would be epic, but that might be too much heat dissipation for an IBIS sensor to handle at this time. If the 5d Mk IV is what I suspect it will be, then they're so far behind the development curve, it'll be another 4 or 5 years before they can adapt to the new reality. They have a lot of VERY interesting-looking patents that have leaked over the last few years - which haven't made it into actual products. They're basically IBM from the early 90s, coasting on their R&D and reputation. They have the technical chops to do the necessary, but don't have enough vision to figure out that coasting only works until you get to the bottom of the hill - which they are approaching very soon, indeed. The company I'm really wanting to jump in head-first to the cinema game is Sigma. I'd love to see some cine Art lenses...
