  1. Z7 "Full-width 4K video is possible at up to 30p, and in the DX crop mode (roughly equivalent to Super 35mm in filmmaking terms) full-pixel readout should offer optimal 4K quality. The 'FX' mode footage is produced by line-skipping, so will have a resolution and noise cost. Unlike the D850, the Z 7 can offer focus peaking in 4K mode; we're hopeful that this can be used at the same time as highlight warnings, but we were unable to test this on our pre-production loaner. As well as 4K, HD video capture is also an option, at up to 120fps. In video mode, the Z 7's in-body VR system is augmented by electronic VR, to help further smooth out vibration in hand-held footage. Perhaps the biggest news for committed videographers is the camera's 10-bit 4:2:2 'N-Log' output over HDMI. This higher bit depth greatly increases the processing flexibility of Log footage and is a feature matched only by Panasonic's GH5 models. This and the addition of timecode suggests Nikon is taking video pretty seriously." Z6 "The lower resolution sensor allows the Z 6 to capture oversampled 4K video, something that the Z 7 can only do in Super 35/DX-crop mode. If you can survive on 24 Megapixels for stills, the Z 6 could prove to be the better of the two cameras in terms of video quality."
  2. Yeah, back to the worst days of the A7 battery it seems. Let's wait for the first independent reviews.
  3. Checking the specs, on the Z6 & Z7: Battery: 330 shots (CIPA), Movies: Approx. 10-15 min of movie recording (WTF??!) N-Log with View Assist (HDMI output only) Movie HDMI Output: Yes, up to 10bit, Start/Stop supported But in this sponsored review... "Just to re-iterate; I was using a pre production model. The battery usage wasn't fully optimised at that point, and I was told it would be improved when released. Having said that, I was getting around 800-1000 images per battery. Update: I've just finished presenting and shooting at the Nikon UK launch event in London. The official rating is around 330 shots per battery. I have no idea how they ended up at that figure as I had shot a shade under 500 images at the event and only 1/5th of the battery was used. All good there!" And DPR "The Z 7's CIPA rating is a middling 330 shots per charge, but as usual this is likely to prove extremely conservative in normal use. On a recent video shoot, we managed more than 1600 images and several 4K video clips on the Z 7 with a single EN-EL15b before the battery started blinking red, so it'll depend to a large extent on how you shoot" Let's wait for the first independent reviews.
  4. The Fuji would be much better for photo and the GH5 for video but if you just need instagram photo IQ the GH5 is more than enough. I shot all this video with the GH5. Half of it is timelapse in still mode.
  5. For Canon I would say "I" like imaginary or "PP" like crippled. I can't wait to see how Canon is going to fuck it up somehow.

    Elon Musk

Yeah, fanboys is general are stupid. Elon Musk is no god nor evil. Just a very smart guys with outstanding achievements and failures like all great men in history. I just find it hypocrite when people goes from love to hate in a few weeks. No one is perfect.

    Elon Musk

Eon Musk is without a doubt an exceptional person and he doesn't deserve all this drama. That being said, in the larger scheme of things we shouldn't overestimate his reach. While Tesla is an amazing accomplishment this is not going to save the planet. Even if a large chunk of the population move to electric cars, the power has to come from somewhere which is mainly coal powerplant in the world (see Germany when they close many nuclear plants to please the green party, they moved to coal and imports). The recharge time is also an issue, but hey, Rome wasn't build in a day and it's already an amazing achievement that goes in the right direction. He did better by himself that all the regular car manufacturers. As for SpaceX, I'm more reserved. First, this has been heavily founded by governmental money. It's not like he did it all on private fund. Something to remember for all the "100% private economy" people. But again, not a big issue and already an impressive achievement. The point of "colonizing" Mars is complicated though. First, why don't we work on keeping earth afloat and not fuck this planet beyond repair? The Mars colonization idea gived the false impression that earth is disposable which is ok because we'll move to Mars afterward... But even if SpaceX improves the launcher technology, this is still a very inefficient endeavor and Mars is not habitable. Long story short, terraforming Mars would require thousand of rockets at a cost probably greater than the actual US GDP. Even if we succeed at creating an atmosphere on Mars, there is no magnetosphere there because this planet is geologically dead inside. So without magnetosphere like on Earth the atmosphere will be washed out by solar winds and I'm not talking about radiations and UV. In any case, I really wish him luck and success. The $420 tweet was fun

Is Tesla going to release a full-frame mirrorless camera as well? That would be epic!
  9. Interesting but there is two issues: - Reputation: personally I'm not sure I would invest in Samsung after what they did with the NX1. They seem very unstable. - Crowded market: Samsung would make a come back just when Nikon and Canon get serious about mirrorless? There will be more competition in a stagnant market. Based on the previous point, would they have the patience and dedication to develop an expensive line of lenses? Perhaps it would make sense with Fuji. Anyway, more competition is always good.
  10. Sure, it's not completely useless and but the bitrate and codec are very limiting. But again, it's nice to have.
  11. Yes +1. The 10 bits is nice to have but the bitrate is too limited for 4k video whether it's 150 mbps Long GOP or 400 All-I. I never really understood the point of 4k/10bits footage recorded in h.264 with limited bitrate. Personally I prefer to use 4k/60 in 8bits instead of 4k/30 in 10bits. But at least Panasonic proposes the option and some people really like it. The GH5 is a great camera.
  12. Yes, another reason to avoid Samsung. I never use Samsung app and I never re-sell my phones. I use them to the end until they die (usually 3-4 years). Personally I really don't see the point of blowing more than $400 on a phone every year or two.
  13. Kind of expensive but the integration is nice. I used the slider a few years ago for time-lapse and the system is very weak. Can't go vertical or with too much angle with a simple DSRL. Hopefully they upgraded the system for the 2 axis head.
  14. One of the issue with software is that provider like AT&T load their phone with crapware that are impossible to remove. I other word, they ruin the user experience. I had a lot of useless stuff on my phone, I had to root Droid to get rid of all this crap and It became significant faster without even talking about the saved space. Yeah, +1 about that. Phones are commodity, they more or less all do the same stuff and no amount of BS marketing, touchwizz and 3D Titanium X face recognition is going to change much. Now I simply buy the best phone for the buck and I'm done. I really couldn't care less about brand and models.
  15. Just double check with a short sample in AE because sometime AE doesn't allow roto and masking with some intermediate codec (I had this problem in the past, I didn't dig much into it and I used another codec, perhaps the latest version of AE CC works now).
  16. 1) Yes, you probably prefer Resolve for grading and you want to do it in that order. That's fine. Of course there is always some quality drop after each render with lossy codec but with the following settings it''s virtually impossible to notice over 2 layer of exports. 2) Any high quality codec with HQ settings such as Cineform 12bits (quality 5), ProRes 444, and DNxHD or DNxHR 444. Or TIFF as mentioned earlier for ultimate quality but that would be overkill I think. 3) & 4) Nope
  17. Yes, Polar Pro will be among the first one to get the drone and design new filters.
  18. Yes, it's a bit heavy but nothing dramatic unless you plan on using it on a small gimbal (it will make the lens front heavy but the Gx85 is light). For 500 euro you can pick the Samyang or the Sigma. It depends about your priority: wider or faster.
  19. Same as @jonpais, could you give us some background for recommendation? It's hard to tell without knowing your situation and intended use. That being said, I really like the Panasonic 7-14mm. The IQ might not the best compared to the Sigma prime or the fancy Olympus but the price is right and the lens is very small and light. I use it mostly for gimbal work. Sharpness is more than enough to resolve the 8mpx of 4k footage. It has AF but not stabilization. I also love my Samyang 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS (MFT) . Small, light, good IQ and very cheap but there is no AF. It's a good alternative to the ridiculously expensive Lumix 12mm f/1.4 ($1,300) I don't like the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH as it doesn't shine is any category. Not the widest nor the fastest, kind of "weird" focal, feels a bit cheap. The price is ok. Finally the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN (MFT) is great but a bit on the heavy side. I would pick this one any day over the Leica 15mm f/1.7. Better, sharper, cheaper, and faster.
  20. I don't envy you, "moding" is always a dirty game, if you ban someone, people will yell "censorship", if you don't the forum will quickly be filled with non-sense an nauseous arguments.. At least the sub-forum allows to keep all this content in one place under quarantine. Good luck.
  21. Yes No Yes No FACT is.. You prove my point, fake news... Yes.. Trump.. No... Trump... You are an idiot No, YOU are an idiot Banned The usual course of this kind of thread. Creating a sub-forum seems to be a good compromise.
  22. That's great, DJI is killing it. I didn't believe they could fit a one inch sensor in a Mavic size drone but they managed to design it. I'm curious about the final size and weight of the drone.
  23. It doesn't matter who led the online attack that took down Gunn. The point is that whatever you do, you gonna have people (Trump, anti-trump, SJW, alt-right, liberals, conservatism, ultra-religious, atheist, etc.) launching personal Vendetta against you. In this case, it may have been Trump supporters but tomorrow it will be someone else. Trump supporters helped to put the guy in the office so there is a relation. However I agree with you, I don't think that all the Trump' voters are dumb. Sure, there are a bunch of KKK guys and rednecks in the mix but many people are just regular folks who were tired of the endless political hypocrisy of Washington and decided to "kick the hornet nest" by supporting Trump or Sanders. That's the problem, the debate is completely polarized, there is no middle ground and reasonable discussion. Now it's all about extreme positions, taking offense, and online hysteria spread on internet by some keyboard warriors, calling for “murder” and other festivity to whoever falls under the outrage of the day. It seems that the era of Roman games and public stoning is not so far behind us after all. I think that this is a dangerous trend for our society. I'm out. Cheers
  24. I recently wrote an article about PC and online hysteria, I quoted Andrew and added some personal element. I don't know the story of M. Gunn, but I also came to the conclusion that Trump won based (among other thing) on a counter reaction of the abuse of non-sense. Saying that doesn't mean that I support Trump because absurdity (Trump) won over non-sense (the distorted PC). The reactions of my article were priceless, It looks like I was homophobic, member of the far-right and... anti Trump. That's a lot for me ! Yes, one can think that SJW and Trump supporters are stupid, at the same time!!! As Trey Parker (South Park) said: "What we're sick of—and it's getting even worse—is: you either like Michael Moore or you wanna fuckin' go overseas and shoot Iraqis. There can't be a middle ground. Basically, if you think Michael Moore's full of shit, then you are a super-Christian right-wing whatever. And we're both just pretty middle-ground guys. We find just as many things to rip on on the left as we do on the right. People on the far left and the far right are the same exact person to us." Unfortunately there is no middle ground anymore. The problem today is that some people just want to get stuck in their world and can't even read a sentence correctly. Facts don't matter anymore. This is not a liberal or conservative issue. Both side are equal in this stupidity. This story is symbolic: The author (Andy C. Ngo) is a serious reporter who writes for mainstream newspapers. He had to face very strong reactions after his article covering this story (and the guy is a Vietnamese refugee and gay.. no exactly the Steve Bannon type of profile...) I think it's important to talk about it because it affects the creative process of many artists.
  25. As a Fstoppers staff writer, I can give the reason behind this policy: it would be unfair for the video creator to summarize the video. Basically we would steal his/her work and content without benefits for him/her. This type of article is called a "repost." If the video is interesting, we make a short introduction and the reader is free to watch the video. Otherwise, people would simply read the summary and skip the video while the website pockets the ads money and there is nothing left for the video creator (views and/or ads money).
