Yes please, 4K60 in 10bits and all the usual GH4 features. I'll pre-order right away. Of course any additional DR and ISO improvement is welcome. This is where my money goes Canon...

Is this bone chilling timelapse shot in space onboard ISS the best ever?
OliKMIA replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I'm lifting this thread. Here is my version of the Space Timelapse featuring new sequences. Took me a lot of work to achieve because the photo were only available in JPEG and the astronauts love to shoot in AWB and weird expo settings (f/1.4, ISO2000, 1/4000...). I don't blame the guys, they have plenty of stuff to do and this is already great to get this resource from NASA. For the fun fact, NASA is big on Nikon. 90% of these are taken with a D3S and a few D4 and D2x as well. Apparently the D5 didn't make it to space yet (or the pic are not available). Enjoy And if you like Timelapse. That's what I do. Cheers -
Hey. Can you clarify your question, so far I understand you want to get into videography, you have more than enough good gears at your disposal (A7RII, 1Dx2 !!!). Now it's just time to practice. My main question is what is your goal ? Want to make money ? Just do it for fun ? In which area ? Video is like photo, some do sports, studio, portrait, landscape ,etc. Depending of your style you'll have to deal with different skills. So what do you want to do ? For the rest, video on these camera is like shooting JPEG. 8 bits files are not very forgiving and you must get the WB and Expo right as much as you can during the shoot. I would say, start with google, this is how I learned most of the stuff. Enter key words and you'll find numerous website and youtube channel, then you'll spot the one you like. Every time you see a word or concept you don't understand, do a lot of research about it. As with photo, you'll have to got out an shot. Pratice a lot, fail and try again. This is how I did and I still fail a lot (but I'm very stubborn). Last, a HUGE part of video is editing. Post-work on a photo is important but when it comes to video, editing is 80% if not more of the job and I often spend way more time in front of my computer than out shooting during a project.

Unless you need cash quick I would say keep it since you love it so much. Bullshit 1 - Canon keep murdering the price. Down to $5k new now. > This item is very unique, I don t think Canon will lower the price much more or it could hurt the 1DxMk2. Heck it's a still a beast for photo (FPS, low iso, etc). There are very few camera available on ebay. It can surely retains its value for 6-12 more months. Time to think and see the GH5 coming (perhaps the next A7R/S as well). Bullshit 2 - Canon can't seem to give us a replacement. > Even if they do, it will cost $6-10k. A used 1DC at $3500-4000 will still be appealing for many, especially here. Bullshit 3 - Dual Pixel AF, what a tempting carrot! Oh... No Canon LOG, same old MJPEG and $6k for a new body. Hmm no thanks! > Talking about the 1Dxmk2 ? Yeah, not thanks indeed. 800mbps in 4k60... Utterly retarded. Bullshit 4 - So much competition to this camera... everything and everyone is shooting 4k these days... even Philip Bloom's cats! When the 1D C came out it was the only one. 2 years before even the GH4. > As you said earlier, what are the options for 4k video in FF ? Sure an iphone does 4k now, the GH5 might do 10bits in 1080 and bring 4k60 but low ISO will be bad. Maybe Sony will do it right this time but you still have a large market of EF users. And again, on the photo side there is not much competition. At 1DC on ebay at $3500-4000 is still a good deal for someone who doesn't care about video but want a pro build body with low ISO, fast FPS and EF mount. Bullshit 5 - If I sell it, what the heck do I use my Canon glass on for stills!? A7S II AF is pathetic! > 6D is great, can find it brand new on Ebay for $1000 now and there are a lot of used one for less. Great camera, better DR and ISO than the 5D3. I love it for stills. It's also "small" In the end the question is "Can I get rid of my beloved 1DC right now or keep it for one more year and loose $1000-$1500 on the resale value" ?
-
Of course the C300 is the beast but my point is that I have not interest in pro camera for many reasons: - I want to do video AND stills - I want FF - I need something small. Not a huge pro Cam body with external recorder, wire mess, accessories, etc. I don't understand the "restriction" and "separation". Even if the C300 was $4K, I would still have bought a 5Dmk4 for the same price if it had no Crop and good codec. Instead I won't buy a C300 nor the 5D but the next Sony/Panasonic camera. I guess I must represent an abnormal or minority market segment

Personally since Canon puked on my face with the 5Dmk4 I really have no interest anymore about what they are going to do next. Got little hope for this camera but it's just the final confirmation, years after years of crap DSLR that they have no intention to give us anything below $10k. Even if the C300/500 were at $3-4K I'm not interested. I want full frame, small size and stills + video. No asking for XLR audio, ND filters or anything that Pro Cam do of course. Just a decent 2016 era stills/video camera. I'm just using my existing gears at the moment. Canon's commercial logic is beyond me. I'm not investing a dime anymore in any EF lenses. Waiting for Sony with its next A7R/S camera. If Canon decides to release a 1DCmk2 (aka 1Dxmk2 + heat shrink and new firmware for $8-10k). I'll be better of buying a A7R/S with a GMaster 24-70 + 35 or 50 1.4 lens...

Quite good actually. Lumetri is really great.

1.74x - A Crop Odyssey - Canon 5D Mark IV officially announced
OliKMIA replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ok. So on my 24-70: 1.64 crop = 39-114mm 1.74 crop = 42-121mm Looks very similar to me. When shooting events, traveling and so on I don't want to switch back and forth between a 24-70 and 16-35 or 11-24... Have to carry many lenses to fit a normal focal range. -
1.74x - A Crop Odyssey - Canon 5D Mark IV officially announced
OliKMIA replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Whatever guys, 1.64 or 1.74 is just useless anyway, 0.1 difference is not going to matter at this point. -
Since canon blocks ML on the latest 5D3 I'll be surprised if the Mark 4 doesn't come with an anti-ML "feature"

DPR says 1.64x crop. https://***URL removed***/reviews/canon-eos-5d-mark-iv-first-impressions-review/6 "Our largest concerns are around whether or not the 5D IV will be seen as a serious video tool for years to come, due to its Motion JPEG limitation and lack of Clean HDMI output in 4K (not to mention its 1.64x crop), as well as its lack of video support tools like zebras and Log gamma. The extremely high bitrates and CF card requirements may steer many towards shooting 1080p, which we'd expect is soft-as-usual. Finally, we wish Canon's viewfinder AF were more versatile and less situation-specific, capable of following subjects around the frame as well as its own Dual Pixel AF system."

Can t find anything about crop... yet https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/cameras/dslr/eos-5d-mark-iv

There is nothing to think. It will be an ok stills camera, not class leading in anything but do the job well. For video, it's a joke. Keeping my current Canon bodies because I won't spend $3500 just for a few Mpx and DR bump. I prefer to save for the next GH5/A7xx.

Photokina 2016 preview and summary of the year in video so far
OliKMIA replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Price, lens, aperture, FPS. Will be a refined mix of all that probably. -
The point is that having better specs and DR makes my life easier. Of course I can do wonderful picture with a T2i, with correct lights and waiting for the right time of the day I can probably take Hollywood movie. Some people shoot movies on iphone or Sony A7S moonlight but is that really convenient ? Sure we did survive before DPAF, we manage to focus without peaking and so on. Manual lenses are very nice, are they easy to handle when shooting portrait ? I still prefer to have good AF. Now in 2016 when spending $3.5k I would prefer better DR. I do a lot of timelapse and hyperlapse and D750 spare me all the HDR process compared to the 6D where I need to bracket. The 6D is not bad though, the D750 is just better. PS: The picture above is lovely

Photokina 2016 preview and summary of the year in video so far
OliKMIA replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yes, I've been holding it for long, waiting for the 5Dmk4 with a little bit of hope but Canon couldn't do it right once again so I'll probably go with the GH5 (already sold my GH4). I must admit that Canon does such a great job protecting its camera division that I've been buying Panasonic camera and lenses since the GH4 despite my large EF collection. Congrats Canon. -
I personally "freak out" because I know how Canon tends to limit the video specs. Line skipping or pixel binning would probably lead to bad results, like the usual 1080 that looks 720 we would have a 4k that looks 2.7k... But in the end, I hope I'm wrong. If Canon does deliver good 4k on this Camera I'll be the first one to buy. If not I'll switch brand because I don't have the cash to buy any C-line camera, nor the will and space to carry it around.
-
The 1DC has crop The 1DXmk2 has crop We can't be 100% sure but compared to the latest 1DXmk2, the 5Dmk4 has 50% more pixels and 100% less processing power (1 digic 6+ Vs 2 digic 6+)... so do the math... Unless Canon comes up with a surprising video optimization, we are heading toward useless crop factor, 1.7x ? 1.9x ?
-
Actually I was holding it until the announcement of the 5Dmk4. I had very little hope but I wanted to be 100% sure before switching. I can't really say the poor video specs are a surprise but now I know there is nothing to expect from Canon below $6k camera. Keeping my actual Canon bodies for now, waiting for Sony and Panasonic announcements. Since Canon is so successful at preserving their C-line, I'm going to buy from another brand. #businessgenius
-
Specs is not everything of course and we are all very curious about DR. That being said there is Canon trends, the latest 1Dx2 and 80D have better DR but nothing crazy compared to Sony/Nikon. Still lagging behind. Now for 4K, I'm waiting the official announcement and independent review but we are most likely headed into heavy crop and massive file size direction If Andrew is right about the 1.7x crop that's going to be a deal breaker for some of us who want to travel light and/or only use one camera.
-
Ok but it doesn't explain the lack of most common video features such as peaking and zebra. I'm also not very convinced by the processor issue (even though it make sense for the MJPEG thing) because ML has been able to do incredible stuff with the 5D2, a 8 years old camera...
-
4K60 is not a must have, just very nice to have in 2016 for slomo, especially when it's going to be standard with the future Sony and Panasonic camera. Canon is giving us 4K very late. How is 4k30 going to look like in 3-4 years ? Same as the crappy canon 1080/30 is today. Ok, the 1DX2 has 4k60 but no log, no peaking, no zebra, nothing basically except for the useless 800mbps MJPEG... 1DC is surely nice and introduced 4K on DSRL but it was $15k when it came out. Plus there is too much limitation for me (crop, 24p only, etc). It's sill $5k today. I would rather spend it on a A7SII + 24-70 G Master lens. As for Magic Lantern, I wouldn't put too much hope into it knowing how Canon locked the latest 5Dmk3. It's impossible to install ML on the latest camera. I would be surprised if Canon leaves the door open for a firmware hack.

Hey. You did a great job considering you only had a GH4 for the night stuff. Congrats.
