I hear you there, but I don't thing Pani would announce the spec and then not deliver. It's not really their style. I wish this had good AF and a flippy screen. That would have made it a super well rounded package.

I think full VLog is already confirmed. I will add I do like the image from this camera, and the low-light looks good. It's just that given Panasonic have priced it at the top of the food chain, it needs to sit there pretty much unrivaled as it is a totally new series. Worst still, this is not just Panasonics first full frame mirrorless... this is Panasonics first full frame camera. That said the argument has to be mighty convincing in both specs and performance to lure would be customers away from the competition. In all honesty, it doesn't seem to rise quite to that level.

Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video

?oh noooos not the rolling shutter! Really, how many people actually have a problem with rolling shutter ruining their shots in real world usage? Do you seriously film wip pans exclusively? -

Older lenses do not "cripple" the AF... where did you hear that? From my experience the AF is little different than on a native body. -
There are a couple sort of obvious innovations that have somehow escaped the feature list on most of the current crop of cameras. Things like IBIS that can be locked down when disabled is a big deal, and really adds to the flexibility of the camera. If you think about it, what good is it to be able to disable the camera intelligently moving the sensor, when the other option is just having it flop about inside the camera willie nilly? It just seems a bit silly to have the disable feature without this locking capability. Another obvious, but absent feature is the sensor cover that is present on the new Canon EOS R. It's so nice to not have to worry about dust getting on the sensor when switching lenses. Both these features are things ALL mirrorless cameras should have as standard features.

How about this?

Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
DBounce replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
To clarify, the EOS R is not more “cinematic” than the C200. And I never had that expectation. I wanted it to match... which it does very nicely. The other cameras I compared looked good, but not organic. They looked videoish... I’ll go one better. I believe the Nikon might have been more accurate in color... but that accuracy never equated to a more complementary image than the Canon. Which ultimately, just added up to more work in post... bending the image of the Sony and Nikon; and that extra time in post never equaled what the Canon could produce without trying. The spec junkie in me REALLY hated parting with the other cameras. I knew by almost every measure they were better. But in the end the images spoke for themselves. The Canons strengths are intangible... ease/speed of use, pleasing imagery vs technical accuracy. It’s hard to understand until you shoot them all side by side. In the end you have to decide what matters most to you as a creator... technical specs or the end result? -

I didn’t see 10 bit on that list. Will DPAF work in 4K? I wouldn’t jump the gun just yet to assume it’s going to be better than the R for video. Because $2300 body only is soooo cheap? They should give them away as prizes in children’s cereal boxes. -
Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
DBounce replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Within the limitations is where you need to work... not just with the R... with all cameras. I use 4K all the time on the R. Yes there’s a crop... that’s been covered to death. But the image it produces is quite good. IMO, more filmic/cinematic than both Sony and Nikon. Side-by-side, comparing to the Z6, I can tell you that the Nikon’s is the more detailed image. The Sony produces a similarly detailed image. The problem is, for me at least, neither of these images feels very cinematic. They feel like video. Don’t get me wrong, they are certainly technically superior; and in low-light both handily outperform the Canon. But here in lies the problem. Regardless of technical superiority, the Canon just looks better. It looks organic. It moves better. And while the Canon cannot hope to compete at nose bleed ISOs, it works well up to 6400 or so, with noise looking more like film grain than the horrible confetti we are all too use to seeing. Now here is the problem... while you can certainly sharpen the Canon image, there is no method I am aware of that can recreate the organic qualities that the Canon produces. I spent about two months comparing footage from these cameras. Trying to match to my C200 which is of course pretty flexible in post. During the course of this testing I tried numerous techniques, in an attempt to replicate the organic look that the EOS R could produce. I added filters to the lenses. Tried vintage glass. Used post processing... nothing... and I mean nothing could convincingly reproduce the filmic/organic feel of the Canon. Finally, frustrated and frankly, disappointed I opted to switch to the EOS R and part with the other “superior” cameras. My conclusion: Cinema is art... and art is not a technical exercise. While the others are without doubt better spec wise, that means little if they fail to produce an image that you love. I’m positive that if you search around you can find some awful EOS R footage. But I can tell you right now... that’s operator error... not the camera. In the right hands this camera can produce impressive imagery. -
I owned both and favored the S, not just for the better low-light performance, but also for the absence of IBIS. I disliked the wobble that the IBIS could produce. It ruined enough of my shots to make the trade off not worth it for my use. Nikon did better by allowing the option to have the VR (IBIS in Nikon speak) physically lock when not in use.

Have you shot with the EOS R? -
It’s an overpriced system right out of the gate. The most expensive vs Canon, Nikon and Sony. Given the premium price, it’s expected it would trump all others in performance... which clearly it does not. The S1/R are Mediocre cameras in this company, with only minor improvements in select areas... where they fail to deliver on important features. Perhaps gen two will be better?

Well maybe Canon will hire you as a consultant. You clearly understand the way industry works far better than they do? -
See above.

IIRC It was in an interview with Atomos. They mentioned that the Nikon can do 4K raw, but Nikon will not offer it until support for CFExpress is added.

Yep, attack the person when you can’t attack the argument. Classy! -
It’s just not an exciting camera. Not exciting enough that most would be purchasers will commit the $10k or so it would cost to acquire the body and lens set. I’ll pass. If they had finally put a real AF system... added a flippy screen... and no time limits? Perhaps I would bite. Sadly, it feels like Panasonic is finally taking a page from Canon and Sony’s playbook... they are protecting the GH line. Well protect away Panasonic... at the expense of the S-line.

Well that’s interesting, the vast majority are using Sony FS cameras yet in this video about which cameras were used to shoot the academy award nominated films this year... no mention of Sony? I hear Panavision... Red... ARRI... oh and Canon... but no Sony? Hmmm? -
Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
DBounce replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Actually, yes. And I can tell you as a tool to get the shot with minimal fuss the P4k would not be my choice. No continuous AF, meaning when using on a gimbal you must either sacrifice DOF or have a focus puller. Cheap plastic build inspires little confidence without a cage. Bulky proportions means casually taking it along is seldom a choice. And most importantly for me, no stills capability means the C200 will always remain a better choice. -
Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
DBounce replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The problem is too many people just go by the spec sheet. I don’t think anyone goes to the movies and gives a dam if the camera used was FF, S35, M43 or S16... they just watch the movie. Granted they notice how filmic it looks or doesn’t. Though they do this subconsciously. Just as they will notice cinematography. The EOS R is a great camera. A better tool for the job than Sony, Nikon, Fuji and Olympus. Far more usable than P4k... because it requires so little to use effectively. You do not even need to grade... you can shoot with baked in colors and be happy all day. It fashionable to knock Canon, but getting good results with the EOS R is painless. And when all is said and done, isn’t that what it’s all about? -

Yes, that’s the list... add to that a flippy screen and I’m in. But... this is Canon... sooooo... they’re gonna leave something out. It’s their way. And it will be something we all reeeeaaallly wanted in there. We can only hope they have learned. -
Canon is about to release a new FF mirrorless for 1599$?
DBounce replied to heart0less's topic in Cameras
Practical...? It’s the most practical camera I have owned. Weighs nothing... High res sensor... flippy screen... uses SD cards... Sets up in a breeze. Turn it on and it does it’s thing all day long. No worries at all. As for rolling shutter... unless you constantly shoot with wip pans it’s a non issue. Here is an example of something I frequently use the EOS R for... it sits on my motion controller, acting as the B-cam to my C200. You’ll notice in the image that while we own the follow-focus, we never bother to use manual lenses; preferring to instead use the focus module to control the zoom ring... which works amazingly. We can only afford to do this as the AF on the EOS R is rock solid. So much so, that it makes zero sense to use the focus module to control focus. I call that immensely practical. For reference, there is not another camera outside of the Canon family that we would feel comfortable enough to use in this manner. -
Fuji has Eterna... and that’s great n all, but it’s a bit played out. My money goes with Canon for pleasing color science. Unless the output is Raw color science remains valid. Their upcoming rendition of BSI combined with their latest DPAF should level the playing field. Hopefully this will be in the “Pro” model... or the 1DXMK3. Though I will concede, the medium format offerings are starting to look appealing. Hasselblad might also surprise us. Who knows what will be coming out in 2019? With DJI now pulling the reigns I think we might well see a shakeup.

I hate to say it but the image quality looks pretty good. Too bad they dropped the ball on AF etc... There’s no reason Panasonic could not have made this camera killer. At any rate, the competition is certainly hotting up!
