  1. Here is a AF test (not mine), comparing to the Sony A73.
  2. No they are not! The Samsung smartphone has true holographic technology... not a simulated holographic display. The Samsung phone mimics what we saw in Star Wars. Red might be the darling of Hollywood, but make no mistake of it; Samsung could crush them anytime they choose to.
  3. Well there is the inconvenient fact that the search analytics seem to support the idea that a change has occurred. And of course the remnants. But I waste my breath. Only the affected know they are affected... the non affected cannot be convinced otherwise. We can agree to disagree. But that said the Z6 does seem to be holding up quite well. I’m not seeing the banding issues that some are reporting... but then again my purpose is not to seek ways to break the footage, so maybe that’s why? I believe you need to work within the limitations... everything has limits... some are higher than others.
  4. I've been playing around with multicam using the C200, 1DXMK2 and Nikon Z. All three cameras can be made to match well enough. The Nikon's 10 bit footage can be manipulated a fair bit. The Ninja V always needs to be switched to the correct camera settings... which is a nuisance. I learned the Sound Devices MixPre 6 cannot record trigger from HDMI.; apparently a bug. Overall I'm liking the output from the Nikon. I'm sure I was doing something wrong with the AF... granted I was trying to set it from behind the screen. I'll use the app next time. The 1DXMK2 is set and forget. It nails AF and doesn't let go. You don't know what good AF is until you have used the 1DXMK2. Frankly for AF, it is the best I have ever used. The C200 is of course a C200... it just works and delivers. I'm considering using the 8 bit. I might do some test to understand what one gives up in doing so. Anywho... here's some footage of me rambling...
  5. That’s a huge gap between 800 & 12,800 ISO. Personally, I would have preferred 3200 & 6400 be included instead of the very high values.
  6. More low-light testing... amazing! This camera is quite versatile. I have a feeling it will live on my motion controller for everything low-light.
  7. Yes, I’m betting that just about all the issues will be addressed in firmware. There are so many variables, it’s hard to nail everything on the first release. But once the camera is out in the wild, and in the hands of many users, the problems will come to light. At that time resources can be bought to bare to tackle any issues.
  8. Nikon designs there own sensors. Sony is contracted to produce them. I would not be surprised to hear of this being addressed in firmware also.
  9. Who talking about SD... Check out CFExpress here. It can write 1TBs per second. Way faster than any currently available.
  10. Yes, they said XQD is not fast enough to support it internally, but once the much faster CF-Express cards are available they will push out a new firmware that will allow this feature. I thought this was common knowledge?
  11. It’s official... Everyday Dad ditches Sony A7III. ?? Not that it’s important, but I find his reviews entertaining. Can’t wait until Nikon releases firmware updates to fix stills AFC and add 10 bit internal recording... which they said would happen once CF-Express is available.
  12. So why would Fujifilm develop a sensor they do not plan use? That makes zero sense. I have no inside information. My conclusion is simply drawn from the logical assumption that Fujifilm were working on something they had a plan to use. Anything other than this assumes Fujifilm worked on this project simply to benefit another company. That reasoning does not seem logical.
  13. It’s not an action cam. That’s for sure. If you crash... or it takes a bad fall... well it’s not gonna work out well. But used as a Vlogging/travel friendly cam it’s great. The lens should be wider though. Not GoPro wide... just a little wider 20mm is perfect for this use.
  14. It’s funny that most here only consider Panasonic’s implementation of this sensor. Clearly Panasonic choose to work on this sensor with their Varicam line in mind. The real question is what are Fujifilm’s plans for this technology? Why did Fujifilm choose to work on this sensor? What cameras / line did they plan to use such a sensor in? Are we expected to believe that Fujifilm invested millions of dollars, and years of work with zero plans to use the technology that they were co-developing? I’ll say it again, it will be Fujifilm not Panasonic that introduces this sensor first in a hybrid body. It’s either that or Fujifilm just chose to throw away years of research and millions invested. That will not happen. This sensor is going to find its way into the XH2. Without it, all they can offer over the X-T3 is IBIS. This would present a major differentiation between the two lines.
  15. Got my hands on one today. It had issues with my AData SDXC V90 cards. They are unusable in it. My less pricy V30 Samsung cards work fine. The quality seems better than my smartphones. The audio is serviceable. The tracking seems to frequently frame me either too high or too low. Admittedly, this might be user error. I’ve not had much time to play with it. I’ll know better after getting acquainted with the operation of it. One thing that I do not like is you need the phone to switch between photo and stills mode. If you do it without the phone app it will exit the “Pro Mode”. I contacted DJI and informed them of this. The size is... tiny... smaller than I honestly expected. It’s so small you can really use it anywhere. The 28mm FF equivalent lens feels too narrow. To get around this you need to extend your arm quite a bit. I think 20mm would have been a better balance for the intended use if vlogging.
  16. Yes... not the best technique. But it was just a impromptu test.
  17. Thanks, I’m also enjoying this camera. The footage was shot handholding just the camera body, so yeah some shake. Probably too much to expect from VR alone.
  18. I somehow got along prior to HDR and thought the images looked great. At some point sunglasses will be needed just to watch television.
  19. Nikon Z7 and Z6 both support HDR. They output 10 bit N-Log... I believe the Sony's support HDR also... but only 8 bit. Your computer likely does not. Some TV's do. I know my OLED supports HDR1000.... most flagship smartphones also can. The HDR workflow is more complex. I don't think I have yet created anything HDR, even though all my cameras support it. When my laptop can fully support editing 4K HDR, I will then start putting out footage in that format. Mac OS does not support it. I don't think anything they make that would be useful in post does. Granted they added HDR options to FCPX, but the display cannot show true HDR footage... even if you connect a HDR monitor, and have a GPU that supports the spec. There are, I believe two PC laptops that do. But neither of them can go anywhere near 1000 nits... let alone 2000 nits. Most laptops that are able to show HDR only meet the minimum requirements. Lenovo makes a couple models that support the middle tier of HDR. There are three HDR standards: HDR400 - Requires 400 nits brightness and 8 bit color depth - result: virtually no visible difference to non-HDR footage. But hay... It's HDR damit! HDR600 - Requires 600 nits brightness and 10 bit color depth - result: visible difference, but not extreme. It's the kind of thing a pixel peeper will notice. HDR1000 - Requires 1000 nits brightness and 10 bit color depth - result: this is the HDR you have been waiting for. In your face, something looks different sort of image. As you can see, the 8 bit cameras (Sony A7III... etc...) only meet the requirements for the entry level HDR format. Cameras with 10 bit Log profiles (Nikon N7, N6, GH5/S, X-T3... etc ) meet the requirement for all of these standards. At present, there are only two full frame hybrid cameras that can capture 10 bit log... and both of them are made by Nikon. The bottleneck is not the cameras... it's pretty much everything but the cameras.
  20. Most 4K TVs have a feature that generates extra frames to “smooth” the video and reduce motion blur. It’s called by different names on the various brands... you need to turn it off. I think they rent to simplify taxes. Purchased items are amortized for depreciation. It’s less complicated to simply write off an expense.
  21. Just be vocal about it. I’m certain a firmware update will fix the issues. I’m willing to bet this camera will improve over time. It’s already great, the firmware tweaks will make it better. Refinements to stills AF would also be good. Maybe eye detect?
  22. Yes flat profile. Sharpening and NR low/off. Can’t recall if this is only for stills mode. I know it only comes into use on high ISOs. No cage for now. I want to carry this camera and it’s a pain to get cameras in and out of cages when you want to put them on a gimbal, or travel light. It attaches at two points... there is no fast way to release the body. When you need the camera you pretty much find yourself pulling the entire rig apart. I’m holding out for something closer to this for the Z mount.
