  1. Yes, that's a handy feature. On the Z6 you can select focus speed also... however you can additionally select when it is applied. For example, you may only wish to apply it when recording or you might choose to always apply your speed selection.
  2. All handheld, and honestly, I was getting jostled about a fair bit, so I was please with the results. I used the 35mm Z lens. As for weather the Kipon adapters will be good for video... well I hope so, our Schneider Xenon FF cinema primes are Canon mount and I would love to use them on this Nikon when using our motion control system. I have been examining the footage from this Nikon with a critical eye. Comparing it to other cameras we have own/owned. While different in character, it can match quite well with the C200. I’m really liking the output from this camera. Without any raw support from Lightroom or CaptureOne we cannot fully judge the stills quality. But so far it looks good imo.
  3. Here is a quick bit of internal 4K 24p I shot in a car on a bumpy road.
  4. Looks fantastic all things considered. For $350 I don’t think you can go wrong.
  5. I already ordered it. I've been looking for something that I can just throw in a pocket to always have around. Love that it's stabilized. The footage looks much better than a smartphone to my eyes. Also browns the GoPro away for image quality imo. Would love to see something like this with an anamorphic lens built in.
  6. The stills feature of the P4K is not intended for photography. It's intended as a quick way to capture the scence so that you can recreate the look for continuity when filming a production that stretches over several days. So characters will have the same hairstyles on day one of filming as they do on day two for example. This is why it captures in the same resolution as the video. You will be sadly disappointed should you believe this functionality means it is a hybrid camera.
  7. That's what I figured. I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest something might be off on the software you are using. In any case it is a bit premature to draw conclusions about image quality when using software that is still in beta.
  8. And what might I ask are you processing the stills with? I didn't think anything supported the Z6 NEF files.
  9. Well one big omission is the lack of stills capability. The P4k is not a hybrid.
  10. I believe the X-T3 May have an edge in stills AF performance. But I need to do more testing to be certain. Granted, the Nikon does slow me down a bit. I’m used to the 1DXMK2, with its machine gun like AF firing away continuously. With the Nikon it’s two burst shots. I’m inclined to give the nod to the Nikon for video AF. I just haven’t had a lot of time to shoot lately. It does feel less prone to drift. Not that the X-T3 is bad. If not for the issues I had, I would still own it. The Fuji was a lot fun while it worked. Most of these cameras are all so good that I’m not sure it matters so much what body we use. Lighting, sound, camera movement and story are now our focus. Yes 8k is coming... but how many have monitors to display it? Granted you get more detail... but do we really want or need more detail? More often than not, we are seeking ways to soften our image. I honestly never noticed this as I have yet to really shoot anything meaningful internally. Everything so far has been external to the Ninja V. I’ll have to check it out.
  11. The MKX lenses are awesome. They are the one single thing I miss the most about the Fuji X-T3.
  12. Yeah, I saw that also and thought he must have been pretty heavy handed in post to break the image like that. From my experience the artifacts you see in that video are not represented of the Z6 when graded correctly.
  13. I think the video AF is pretty good. Not as good as Canon, but with some consideration to the limitations more than usable. I’ve played with most of the top hybrid contenders and I place this camera in the lead position assuming video is important to you. Stills performance is quite good, AF is acceptable, but given the lineage there remains room for improvement. Perhaps a firmware tweak can improve upon this. An update did greatly benefit the Panasonic GH cameras, so there is hope. Certainly Nikon is less than pleased with reports of their AF underperforming.
  14. Had a quick play today shooting some video, both internally and to the Ninja V. I believe the footage is pretty flexible and can be graded without too much difficulty to match the C200.
  15. No one seems to know what, but apparently, it is definitely not a drone. Speculation is they will unveil a Osmo pocket.
  16. Looking at this test from about 1.50 into the video, I noticed that when focused on his face the background looks more blurred on the Nikon than it does on the Sony. Also the Nikon seems a bit more contrasty and clearer. I see little between them in overall AF performance. As of yet I have not shot a single frame of video with the Z6. I have taken several pictures, and love this camera. Is it as fast to focus as the 1DXMK2?... No, but it is certainly fast enough to get the job done. It’s also easy to get great pictures with this camera. It doesn’t fight you. The low light image quality is fantastic. Far better than the Fuji X-T3 and perhaps better than the Canon. I’ll have to run some video test. Any ideas on best video setting for the Z6?
  17. Yeah, but do you have a 16 bit display to view it on? Most TVs and monitors are only 8 bit or 10 bit... so there’s that.
  18. The 4K crop is evidenced in this video... look at the side by side @ 35mm. It’s a hugh difference. Even the thumb nail shows it.
  19. So the EOS-R does not crop in when shooting 4K video? I think you mean 1080p... lots of cameras have been shooting full frame 1080p for years. But who cares? I’m speaking of 4K video, and there is definitely a crop in that mode. I understand you may own this camera, but such comments might mislead others.
  20. No, I mean as the EOS R is largely crippled in 4k, suffering from a huge crop, it isn't really a Full Frame mirrorless. It's more of a hybrid frame camera. All of that expensive R glass is wasted on a crop sensor body. Which is exactly what the EOS R becomes the moment one selects 4K recording mode. I recall being pumped when I first heard about the EOS R... and then the details came out and burst that bubble. I think im not the only one that feels this way.
  21. Yeah, they confirmed this to me today. Can’t say I’m too interested with such a small sensor. I guess it must have been all that was available to them. But had they had gone the opposite direction and installed a S35 sensor I suspect many would be take notice of this camera.
  22. Well I cannot speak to the Facebook group as I do not “Facebook”. But I did speak with Kinson, over at Z-Cam and he specifically mentioned two new GS models... not one. A cheaper 30p model at $2499, and another 60p model at $2999.99. He made no mention of a 1” sensor. I assumed it would be exactly the same as the current model in all other aspects. I think m43 is a tough sell at those prices... GS or not. With a 1” sensor they would be ice skating up hill.
  23. It’s their first full frame mirrorless. Conversely, I’m not sure the EOS R is actually Canons first full frame mirrorless, certainly not for video anyway.
  24. Any of today's modern hybrids can get the job done... but as you no doubt agree, the P4k is not a hybrid. It's a video camera. It has terrible AF, battery life, no EVF, an immovable screen. And while it can be rigged to overcome much of its shortcomings, once you've done that is not exactly discreet anymore. By right the P4k needs to be compared to other cinema cameras... where it really only wins on price point.
  25. How? Well some would argue that full frame vs m43 is a decided advantage of the Z6. Also the added low light ability of the Z6 will frequently be of use. But for narrative work how exactly is 4k/60p useful? If you are going for the video/soap opera look maybe? But if you are thinking of using it for slow-mo will the actor be speaking in slow-mo also? Is there another full frame hybrid camera that outputs full frame 4k @30p in 10 bit log?... Let alone full frame 10 bit log in 4k @60p?
