  1. 1" sensor? Are you sure about this? At $2499 for the 4k 30p model and $2999 for the 4k 60p model it seems like no one would buy it if true. @IronFilm my interest is more to do with the motion cadence than anything else. I will agree it's subtle... maybe somewhat subjective... but to my eyes there is a discernible difference.
  2. My Z6 came in yesterday after much delay. I plan on shooting connected to our Ninja V. I suspect this will give it a decided edge over the GH5/S. Rolling shutter is not a issue in our use case. I think the ergonomics will grow on you. The GH5/S is a great video camera, but I suspect the Nikon will be the more balanced hybrid. That said, we just got this camera, so our opinions may change.
  3. I was pretty busy yesterday with other things. But I did have a brief play with the Z6 in as fairly dark room. I took pictures at 6400 ISO. They came out really clean. I have a feeling this cameras is going to live up to the hype regarding low light performance. Some notes: the camera feels light. It's clearly well made, but not heavy. The only lens I've attached so far is the 24-70mm native lens... I like it. I love the size. I mostly shot with the Canon yesterday as the Nikon was charging. The Nikon feels like a feather next to the 1DXMk2. As we bought the Nikon to be a go everywhere camera, the small and light combination checks a lot of boxes for us. I usually associate light weight with poor build quality... in most products. But this is strangely not the case with the Nikon. The camera is solid and of high quality. Holding it you feel confident that it will not let you down. I can report that I do like the ergonomics, but I do miss the battery grip with shutter button. We always opt for a battery grip on our cameras. Nikon missed out on some tidy profits by omitting this option with the Z6/7. I suspect I will miss the portrait tilt of the X-T3. Who knew that was a thing? But once you've had a screen with portrait tilt, it's something you realize is pretty handy. I don't miss the flip out screen of the GH cameras. I always use an external monitor or recorder when shooting video anyway. Single card slot is a non issue for me. Menus... I like the menus... they seem really easy to navigate. The learning curve is not too steep if you are familiar with modern cameras. It's a very different camera than the X-T3 and Canon in feel and handling and vibe. It beats the GH5/S in hand. Overall, I would say it reminds me most of the Sony... if the Sony was more refined. I plan to do some shooting with the Z today. I need to understand how it compares to the Canons... both the 1DXMk2 and C200. I want to know how easy it is to match the footage with the Canons... the C200 in particular. I know the C200 can be made to look like the Nikon... RawLite has a lot of depth. But can NLog bend to look like the C200 without breaking? A word about the EOS R... that was the camera we wanted to purchase. The cats out of the bag. I'm confident it would have matched perfectly to the C200. But Canon just had to pull a Canon. Cropping the 4k video to essentially m43... but without the ability to offset the extreme crop with a speedbooster. Hey Canon, Nikon and Fuji send their regards. With that out of the way, I REALLY want to love this camera. It's off to a good start, I'll know more soon.
  4. Can’t imagine there will be many takers on the non-global shutter variant... as the current version already seems to have limited interest.
  5. A camera destined to be obsolete. There is already two global shutter versions in the works.
  6. I'll go... when shooting a story context is very important so that the audience can understand where the characters are. Overdoing DOF can work against the story. Ideally, before choosing a lens, one should consider what using that lens is going to convey as relates to the story. Additionally, tracking subjects with shallow DOF can present challenges. I like having options... like everyone else, but given the choice of only one lens... and only shallow vs deeper DOF... for video, I would not favor a very shallow DOF.
  7. Honestly I can't see low light being a concern with the Z6 or Z7. They seem to look pretty good at any reasonable ISO setting. I'm surprised at how good 25000 ISO looks.
  8. The new 24-70mm f4 compared to the older 24-70mm f2.8... starting at around 14 minutes in. The new lens looks sharper and more contrasty to my eyes.
  9. I think before dumping $12k into this, I would sooner just wait until the Panasonic full frame S1R is released. Reports are it may output raw and will sport built in NDs. I wonder if the raw it outputs will be prores raw? Not sure what ever happened with that standard, but it's Apples codec, and they could buy the entire camera industry with their pocket change. So, I am certain it is going to become a thing. No doubt size, weight and form-factor will also be major advantages also over the Mavo. PS: That said, I do actually like your unboxing style. Keep it up.
  10. You are clearly not up to speed on your mirrorless promises.... size and weight was the old promise of mirrorless... the new pitch for mirrorless is now faster glass, and more adaptability due to the shorter flange distance. Here is an interview with some Nikon engineers.
  11. @Danyyyel It looks like a pretty nice 24-70mm F2.8, but was not the promise of the super short flange distance, and indeed the current promise of mirrorless, the idea that we would see faster glass? If so, why is this lens an f2.8? Hasn't that been done to death? It's been 17 years since Sigma created the first 24-70mm F2.8, it's time for a new faster variant in the f2 to f1.8 zoom range.
  12. Certainly, Sony has the edge in native glass. Not sure I would spring for the 58mm f.95 either as it is both huge and only manual. But it's a new mount, so more options will come in time. Between Fuji and now Nikon the competition is really heating up. Can't wait to see Panasonic hand everyone their ass on a plate. As the bar keeps getting raised we will have more options. I would love not to have to worry about ND on hybrid bodies. Yes Canon's adapter sort of does this, but not with native lenses.
  13. I'm not so sure they are better for video. The new Nikon Z mount lenses are said to have been designed to perform exceptionally well for video, being near silent in operations and having almost no focus breathing. I don't think Sony offers anything comparable for a similar price? Also consider, that while slower than ideal for some situations, having deeper dof is not necessarily a bad thing for video.
  14. I agree, the GH5 and S variant are both fantastic for video. X-T3 works well with the Ninja V, but the internal footage is also good when you want to travel light. Granted my personal experience with the Fujis did not go as intended. I can tell you while they worked, they were a lot of fun. I'm hopeful that the Nikon Z6 will live up to the usually high Nikon standards and become my new daily driver. I am still keeping an eye on the P4k, but that's more of niche camera imo. There are always tradeoffs. The Panasonic offerings are a good balance of features, price and performance.
  15. Limitations...? well, even with the monitor attached, the Ronin-S's powerful motors can stabilize the C200. It is top heavy however, and so when you do the calibration test it will not be 100% balanced. The Ronin-S will adjust for this imbalance with sheer torque, so from a footage stability standpoint all is good. I think the combination works well. But be aware, there is a penalty when it comes to battery life. It's still good, and you will easily get upwards of four hours, but, if you can get the monitor off the top of the camera you can balance perfectly. Another solution may be to add counterweights.
  16. Didn’t we establish that Nikon does not actually use Sony sensors, rather Sony manufactures Nikon designed sensors for Nikon? This is no different than saying Apple is using TSMC’s chips. While TSMC does manufacture the A12, it is clearly Apples design.
  17. Its refreshing to see manufacturers that aren't holding back to protect their cinema line. I can't see how Sony will not offer 10bit on the A7S3 at this point. Unless they just kill the S as some have suggested. And at this point Canon is looking a little ridiculous for having such an extreme crop in 4k on the Eos R.
  18. Well I may have misspoke regarding the Nikon mirrorless offerings. The Z6 looks pretty dam good to my eyes. The more I see footage from this camera, the more I like it. Needless to say I ordered one with a selection of lenses to replace the Fuji X-T3’s that I returned. I will add a second body if it pans out. From all I have read build quality is top notch on these cameras. The lack of a handgrip with a shutter release bothered me initially, but I can learn to live without it. The new mount seems most impressive. I understand it has the shortest flange distance of any camera on the market. Low light is very good from the footage I have seen thus far. Perhaps besting the Z7. It looks clean up to 5000 ISO, and honestly I never go beyond this for video. I like the colors... yes... why yes, I do like the colors. Ladies and gentlemen, I do believe we have yet another camera manufacturer that is truly committed to taking video seriously?? High ISO footage:

  20. Since forever... the C200 drops to 10bit when shooting 4k 60p in RawLite. As for the cost of CFast... well yeah, depending on your budget it may seem expensive.
  21. And except the build quality... and the EVF... and the much better screen... and the extra stop of ND... I could go on, but you get the point.
  22. @Oliver Daniel I am using the Glide Gear DNA 6000 Vest & Arm Stabilizer. It really makes it effortless to handle the camera on the Ronin S. I have not gotten round to shooting in 10bit, myself, but Crimson Engine did some comparison shots comparing 12, 10 and 8 bit. Take a look below.
