First 14bit RAW video frame extracted from 5D Mark IV with Magic Lantern!!
DBounce replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Well more reason to focus on the 1DXMK2... it is not a “C” camera. I’m thinking the 14 bit raw output from a 1DXMK2 would blow my C200 out of the water. The code has to be pretty similar. -
How would this be revolutionary? My C200 can shoot 4K raw for more than an hour? Or can BMD cameras not do this?

1DXMk2... need coffee. Warned off? Didn’t phone manufacturers loses a similar suit about custom roms? -

They should be focusing on the 1DMk2. It has the media to handle the data rates. -
Not sure why everyone with an NX1 feels the need to chime in about how great it is compared to this camera. I had the NX1 and sold it... haven't looked back... haven't missed it. All my cameras since have been upgrades over the NX1. While it was good for its day, times have moved on. It's not a standard by which all else must be judged, and frankly never was.

I like your work. It really doesn't matter what BMD thinks is best for their marketing. Your work can stand on it's own merit, so don't waste time worrying about them. The footage from the new camera is ok. Nothing exceptionally special. At no point did I stop and say OMG... It's Fck!n amazing. Given the lack of AF and low resolution stills, it will remain a niche item.

I like the image from this camera. I like the 26MP stills. I’m liking the film emulations... though I would love to see what they look like with the grain setting active. I will pick one up along with a zoom and prime to see how it is to work with. I’m thinking this might be a perfect travel cam.

Not sure, but I'm running off Gigabit fiber, so it should be plenty fast enough for YouTube. Do you see and banding @Andrew Reid?
-
There is banding, nothing extreme... visible on both my MacBook Pro and 65" LG Oled HDR TV. If this is 8 bit footage I would wager you will see none of this with 10 bit footage. My guess is this banding was caused by YouTube compression as other have state. I really like this little camera. It's amazing what it can do in such a small footprint. The AF looks very usable. I am interested in the film simulation. Are there any example of it using the build in "Grain" setting? I am curious how this combination looks straight out of camera.

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
DBounce replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
Well EVA1 and Varicam are not full frame either... so that imaginary rule is already broken. “Im trying to free your mind Neo” -
@Andrew Reid I understand you are bothered that BMD did not invite you. And to be honest, I think they should have. But I don't think writing an article about a forum member is a great move. He (John Brawley) does not work for BMD. His view, by his own admission do not represent the view of BMD. Also, he had no role in who was invited to the Manchester event. I can see that many here are upset. But surely we do not base buying decision on weather a stranger is polite or impolite? It may be wise to just forget this conversation and move on to more constructive topics. We are bigger than this aren't we?

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
DBounce replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
Why is IBIS such a big deal for video? I see it ruin many shots as it can cause weird sensor shift artifacts. I would rather just throw the camera on a gimbal to be honest. If this was anyone other than Panasonic I would agree. But I would not underestimate Panasonic... that's like bring a knife to a gun fight. -
I did not really like the attitude that the folks at BMD had at NAB. They did not really seem to like being recorded... at a public event. The folks at Panasonic, DJI and Tilta, were much nicer. I get the impression that those companies really value their customers. It's one of the reasons why I will buy nothing until I see what Panasonic is announcing. I also am really liking the Fuji images, and I have never owned a fuji camera, so there is that. The P4K puts out a nice image, but at this point lots of cameras are putting out nice images, and doing so with reliable autofocus for easy gimbal use.
-
@Andrew Reid perhaps they feared you would be too honest in your review? Who knows? I would not call it quits over this though. Personally, I think you should have been invited to the event in Manchester, but despite this shortfall, I would still hope to see you do an honest review of the camera.

I like it... but I can't justify buying everything. There's just soooooo much hitting this month. I need to wait to see all the options.

It has been reported that Samsung is now producing full frame camera sensor in "large quantities". It is unclear who they are making these sensors for, or if this sensor will make its way into a new Samsung body.
-
I think a lot of YouTubers will eat this camera up. Reliable autofocus, Canon colors, good support. While I like Panasonic, their auto-focus is crap. Sony is still behind in color science. It's fair to say that there are more YouTubers and aspiring YouTubers than serious indie film makers. News of Canons demise has been greatly exaggerated. If BM had put a flippy screen on the new Pk4, they would have reached the "vlogging" market they claimed to be targeting. But without good AF and a flippy screen it would be a poor choice for those users. Granted, I still plan to pick one up. Those things do not bother me. But from a marketing standpoint? Honestly, I am just glad to see things moving forward. Even if Canikon are being forced to move forward, kicking and screaming. We can hold out hope that Panasonic will show us some true innovation on the 25th... I REALLY want to see that new organic sensor make it into their new full frame camera. But at the same time, would be surprised to see it in anything less than a new Varicam at this stage. On another note Samsung is said to be producing full frame sensor in meaningful quantities that are being shipped to Japan. So who knows what that could mean? Things are certainly getting interesting.

@Jonesy Jones Honestly, the footage speaks volumes... I'm happy to report, thus far I am loving what I see. The battery life was as expected. I owned the original pocket, and loved the output, so this is a big step up from that in many regards. Better on camera audio support is welcomed. I want to mount this to the Ronin S... something tells me the two will be a good match. This camera has that something special. In all honesty, my girlfriend saw the footage from the new Canon Eos R and said, " I don't like it", but after reviewing the footage from the P4K immediately proclaimed how good it looked. I think even if there are a couple small omissions, the price more than compensates for anything that didn't make the cut. I like the new pocket 4k. I think it will be a great travel, and gimbal camera. It's also affordable enough and unassuming enough not to have to worry about unwanted attention. Sorry for the long winded answer... But to the point... So far it looks like we are going to get what was promised. Now the only question is when? Oh and the elephant in the room... what does this mean for GH5S owners? Given it's low resolution stills, it limits the camera to video only... And in all honesty the Pk4 looks to have it's lunch in the video department. Also with a new full frame Panasonic around the corner... ? One hell of a month!

Looks like they have ditched the Carbon Fiber body in favor of plastic. From the article.

If a person doesn’t care about crop for video, but still wants full frame stills they will not buy any of the cameras you mentioned. I have to think Canon knows most shooter fall into this camp. While you are entitled to an opinion, your views are not mainstream. Most movies are still shot on cropped sensors. And most stills shooters prefer full frame. This is a hybrid camera and thus must accommodate the populist view.
-
If everyone is so bothered by the crop, I guess the new blackmagic pk4 is off the list? My C200 is cropped, but somehow it has never bothered me. Personally I find too much dof is not helpful for video. If it does not support the story it has no place. And usually when sorry telling you want context, which is hard to show when the background is consistently nothing but blurry bokeh. Full frame is mostly for stills. Most film is shot on Super 35. This camera can do both in their ideal format. What's the problem? Plus the footage looks good. It has mojo. Looks pretty dam filmic to me...
-
Looks good to me. Can't bring myself to pull the trigger until Panasonic shows their hand. They just might surprise us all.
-
I think this is going to play nice with the C200 and 1DXMk2. More so than the GH5S. I might pick up a couple of these bad boys. To bad no anamorphic mode. Hey BMD... That's C200 footage.
