  1. Ok, I'm gonna call it... this camera has mojo. Its imagery is DBounce Approved!!!? Still not sure how it will be to work with, but I'm feeling the image quality... enough so that I would look the other way on any minor imperfections. It will make a nice addition to the toolbox.
  2. 1DX II apologist? Who needs to apologize for the 1DXMK2? It’s a great camera. Frankly, if you can’t do anything worthwhile with a camera as good as the 1DXMK2 you would be a lost cause with any camera. I’m just the messenger?
  3. Ok, I wanted to see how organic/filmic I could get this footage without going too vintage. I was going for something filmic while still modern. What do you folks think? Ignore the low resolution image below... it's actually at 1080p and looks much better. Not sure why YouTube always show these awful looking placeholder images?
  4. Cool, getting on my apron so I can get to butchering?
  5. I'll believe it when I see it. Not holding my breath. But I'll say this much, if it is the organic sensor, I would preorder immediately. The individual pixel gain would be a huge breakthrough.
  6. It’s hard to beat Canon. Straight out of camera they rule. I will be curious to see what Pani comes out with. But I already know I’m buying the new Canon mirrorless. It will be the prefect travel camera.
  7. Well here's the thing. I grade my C200 footage in Resolve... but as I have been holding off on buying the full version of Resolve as it is included with the P4k. As a result I have been forced to grade my GH5S footage in FCPX, as the GH5S's 10 bit ALL-i files are not supported in the free version of Resolve. I think it may be easier to grade in Resolve than FCPX. So perhaps that's part of the edge. Also, having been spoiled by raw files, I have become used to the added flexibility afforded this medium. I have not owned a BM camera since the OG pocket. As such, I am eager to get my hands on this to see how it stacks up. I don't know if it is a replacement for a GH5S. Battery life on the Pani is pretty good. I only went through two batteries in Mexico. Also, being weather sealed gives some peace of mind when traveling. I like the colors of the new camera, though I would maintain that the original felt more "organic".
  8. So is it the same sensor as the GH5S. I won't lie, the GH5S can be chanllenging to CG. More so than the C200. The codec is less forgiving. This has me wondering about the new P4k. Where is some footage I can download to butcher... erh color grade? Here is some GH5S footage for sake of comparison on a sunny day.
  9. Interesting that on the website thy show the camera surrounded by many lenses. But almost all of the lenses are Olympus, with only a couple Panasonic, Veydras and the odd SLR Magic and Voit thrown in for good measure. I wonder if this is an indication that they feel Panasonic users would largely not be interested in this camera? Interestingly, at NAB almost all of the cameras that were not mounted with giant cine zoom were fitted with Panasonic lenses.
  10. I think slowmo is a copout. iPhones look cinematic in slowmo... pretty much everything does. And as you cannot really do any narrative work exclusively in slowmo, well it becomes more of a niche tool. But that said, I own the GH5S and would agree. From the footage I have seen thus far I remain unconvinced by the new offering, but open to seeing more.
  11. It's just that I was really looking forward to seeing a real demo of what this camera can do... motion cadence, skin tones etc... it's difficult to gauge with this footage. I'm sure more footage is coming, but this was a pretty underwhelming first demo
  12. Trees... ? Seven months plus waiting for footage and their first footage is of trees?
  13. But that could mean with the battery grip. Or... This! They need a breakdown.
  14. I stopped being interested after reading about the 15 minutes of recording time.
  15. Samsung bias? Canon bias...? I sense Appple bias? Believe me I wish the iPhone X had better camera performance. But in all honesty, it’s mediocre amongst flagships... https://www.cnet.com/topics/phones/best-phones/camera/
  16. Well the 1DXMk2 does offer great video quality. Better than any GH5/s for straight out of the camera. I can tell you no smartphone comes close to it's footage... and that's ok. The best camera is the one you have on you and the Note 9 will be able to go places the Canon will be barred from. Well comparing all three, from the shots he did in his studio, I see a poor dr on both smartphones when compared to the standalone camera. Also the image quality of the iPhone X looks pretty bad overall compared to the other two. If we are honest, the standalone camera looks much better. Sorry, but anyone that pauses the video as he switches between them will see the same thing: Standalone camera - 1st place Note 9 - 2nd place iPhone X - distant 3rd It's not even close... there is no debating it.... unless you are watching at 144p?
  17. Also it has active cooling, so that may potentially mean better image noise performance at high ISOs... only time will tell.
  18. It is big. I held it in my hands... And I have the 1DXMk2. Keep in mind that's a full frame pro camera... which is built like a tank and weather sealed. Also battery can last a day on the Canon. You will be happy with 40 minutes on the PK4. Also, no one ever said the Canon was a "pocket" camera. Pending real footage, I will buy the PK4, but I am expecting limitations and accepting them as part of the deal. If you do otherwise, you will be in for a disappointment.
  19. It would be nice to see some video from these lenses.
  20. I think with a flippy screen and bigger battery you would pretty much double your sales. Add in DPAF and own the vlogging market.
  21. Yes it is... which is why I have favored Resolve for C200 footage. Granted I’m not running the paid version as it is included for free with the P4K. Annoyingly, this means all my GH5S footage must be edited in FCPX as the free version of Resolve does not support the 10 bit ALL-I files from the GH5S.
