  1. Color collections render preview files. Once rendered playback is fine. CG is something I do after assembling my timeline. FCPX is very smooth, but lacks some raw controls that resolve has. I find these days I'm mostly editing in resolve.
  2. With all due respect... I'm not "most likely wrong"... I'm definitely correct. I have this camera and edit frequently with my MBP. I don't need to watch a review to understand what I'm seeing in my real world workflow. Fyi: I don't run PP on macs.
  3. The problem with these test is that they are comparing open gl, not the newer Vulkan standard on the Android side. Whereas the iOS test are done using Apples “Metal” which is their equivalent to Vulkan. It’s simply not Apples to Apples?
  4. From my experience RawLite playback is less to do with cpu or gpu power and more to do with hard drive read speed. My 2016 MBP runs the same with or without eGPU. But loading files on the internal hard drive makes playback way smoother then loading from an external hard drive. FCPX has no issues. Resolve is smooth also, but only if playback is from the internal drive. Maybe there is an advantage if you are doing CGI, but I seldom do that anymore.
  5. No, but AF still works and is excellent. You can adjust the region that is in focus by using the thumb pad.
  6. That’s why I always buy unlocked phones, not carrier versions.
  7. Are you planning a rewiew? I’m sure I’m not the only one that would look forward to seeing an independent review of the new model.
  8. Almost bought the motion kit last time around, but got discouraged by the bad reviews. I will be curious to learn how this one works out.
  9. @Trek of Joy I have used the focus wheel a couple time. But didn’t need it on the last shoot as I had the lens at F16 thanks to forgetting my ND filter. As to how it worked... it worked as advertised. But I need a bit more time with it. There must be a was to limit the range, but just haven’t had time to dig into the manual.
  10. Agreed, Sony needs to outdo itself to remain relevant against Canon and Nikon. This is starting to get interesting.?
  11. So I am noticing some jerkiness in the footage. I believe this is due to forgetting to recalibrate the Ronin S for the lighter weight GH5S. None the less here is some additional footage. Oh, I also forgot to bring ND filters on this shoot. I guess I have been spoiled by having built in NDs on the Canon C200. Oh, one last thing, these clips are edited in FCPX. The free version of Resolve does not support the 10 Bit ALL-I files of the GH5/S.
  12. So I decided to pull out the GH5S to see how it works with the Ronin S. This is a single take, shot anamorphically. I still like the look of this camera and feel it's very underrated. It felt light on the Ronin S... but then again I'm used to flying the Canon C200 ? What are your thoughts?
  13. Let’s hope for 10 bit.
  14. I have to agree with @Andrew Reid at this expected price point it would be in flagship territory for a mirrorless camera. I personally expect big things from this camera... let’s hope I’m correct.
  15. Rumors of the death of the GH5S have been greatly exaggerated... apparently! Not my work, but nice to see real narrative filming with the little camera.
  16. What pictures? Ok, now that that's settled... back to obsessing over the specs?
  17. Interesting point, I wonder if we're will see an update that will allow for 4K @120 fps 10 bit for the GH5S? That would be nice to see.
  18. Nah, I tried external video recorders for awhile, but hated carrying around the extra hardware. That was one of the reasons I purchased the C200... internal raw. And yes, I know that some are recording external to 2k raw, and I understand it looks pretty good, it’s just not a path I’ve embraced. Re-reading my last post, perhaps it was ambiguous... I meant audio records. The P4k is potentially an interesting camera, but I would not consider it a substitute for a dedicated cinema camera like the Canon C-series. But that’s not to say it does not have it’s use. Really, until we see footage it hard to gauge how serious to take it. There’s even a review on BH claiming it’s output falls short of the GH5S. Though I’m not sure how much weight we can give that review. I remain to be convinced on the P4K, only real footage will suffice to cement my opinion.
  19. I own the C200, and some pretty nice external recorders... the pre-amp in the C200 is up to the task. There are situations where external audio is preferably, (example: you need more inputs). But other than that, provided you have a clue what you are doing, the C200 will yield good results.
  20. Dynamic range is largely determined by how tolerant one is to noise. Certainty the Canon C200 can deliver the dynamic range that was promised, but part of that may live in the noise. That said, even working within the usable range, it does not lack for dynamic range, and that is not something I would say of most cameras that I have worked with.
  21. Yes, tentacle would work fine. But that said the pres on the C200 are pretty good. So unless you are using many inputs, or multiple cameras, you might run directly to camera if trying to keep things simple.
  22. Timecode in would have been nice, but you do have 4 audio channels, so you can always use one for timecode.
  23. Some rough edits from the C200 with the beta version of Resolve. This version works better than the last one, but still does some "weird" things. Adds black spaces between clips. Cuts sections out and resizes for not apparent reason.
