If the NX1 was that great then Samsung would not have canned it. Bottom line, more of us choose to either ditch it, or not adopt it in the first place. Samsung had the money to keep it going for the next few hundred years. They made the choice not to. For most of us, that speaks volumes. I get the feeling these post are created so people holding these cameras can unload them on eBay for more money. Just like that hoax thread about the superdooper third party firmware. Much talk here... but alas, no amazing footage to back it up. Nuff said!

It was great for it's time but I believe times have moved on. If the NX1 was so great none of us would have sold it. To compete with the modern contenders Samsung would have needed to release a NX1 Mk2... which they did not. I've seen nothing online to convince me that the NX1 is a better choice than the GH5 or GH5S. I don't recall being sad when I bought the A7R2 after ditching the Samsung either. And as expected, no one has posted any footage to support these claims of far superior DR. Yes there was some very good glass for it, but that glass was created for a doomed system... so I sold my glass... and camera... and never looked back. Let's not build this camera up into something it isn't, that could send so folks down the wrong path.

Can’t say I agree. But maybe the new firmware is amazing. Please do post some examples.

The NX1 was ahead of it’s time. But I have to say, other than the great UI, I do not miss it. The build quality was suspect, with the handgrip never aligning properly when attached. I’m a bit nitpicky with things like that. Dynamic range also was not great. I know many here swear by it, but I have yet to see any videos that show good dynamic range from this camera. Too bad Samsung didn’t make a NX1 Mk2. I’m sure it would have fixed most of the issues and upped the game significantly.

I feel the Canons play nice together. Oh, and for all their segment protectionism, it is still hard to fault the colors.

Got out and shot a bit more with the C200. Footage is easy to grade and colors pop. The 12 bit raw is great to work with and very forgiving. Check it out below:

Nothing special. -
Interesting looking back on this thread. In retrospect, now that I have had some time to play with the C200, I think it is a great camera. The hardware concerns were largely not warranted. However, there is no getting around the fact that the files are large. But the GH5S also produces large files. Granted half the size, but nonetheless large. The C200 and 1DXMK2 match easily in post. The GH5S is not so easy to match with either camera. All three are great and imo have decent motion cadence. I rank them as follows: 1. Canon C200 2. Canon 1DXMk2 3. GH5S But in terms of flexibility in post the Canon C200 has an edge with the GH5S taking second. For baked in colors the 1DXMK2 is first. I prefer the Canon images. I shot all three side by side, in a test that I admittedly screwed up. I had the C200 set at ISO 6400 with NDs enabled and forgot to change it back to 200 for this test. But that only added a little noise. And the image was still perfectly usable. Overall, and I know this is subjective... I feel the C200 produced a better image with better colors.

Just a quick thank you for supporting EOSHD over the years

Thanks Andrew for having the patience and perseverance to run this site. I, like many here appreciate your reviews. -
Yes 4k monitor. This goes a long way to explain what I saw. I honestly thought I screwed something up. Mind you, I never once before questioned the 4k image... that is, until I saw it side by side with the 2k DCI Scope image. Now I understand.
-
I rendered the footage from the GH5S in 4k DCI, and the footage from the Canon C200 in 2k DCI. To my eyes the difference in detail and resolution was negligible. I also compared to previously rendered images from the C200 which were rendered in 4k DCI. Again little to no difference when comparing the 2k DCI to the 4k DCI. I'll go as far as to say I preferred the 2k DCI imagery.

Well with that design only one of the extra handles would be usable, assuming you still want to have access to the controls located on the middle handle. If that is the finished design, the guys I spoke to from DJI at NAB must have been replaced with monkeys.

I may need to do some testing with YouTube then.

A couple days ago I decided to do some test with the Canon C200 and Panasonic GH5S. I set up the two cameras next to one another and ran the C200 at 200 ISO vs the base 800 ISO of the GH5S. I then progressively increased the ISO of the Canon until it matched the GH5S, at which point I matched the same setting on both cameras. ISO 200 is the cleanest on the Canon. Both are quite clean at 6400 ISO. And this is good, as I almost never shoot higher than that. The real surprise came when I started to edit the footage in DaVinci Resolve 15 Beta. I'm using the free version as I see little point in paying for the full version since it comes bundled with the BMP4k. Well, as luck would have it, the free version has limitations. It cannot output at DCI 4k. The max output resolution is UHD. These days I tend to prefer Cinema Scope as it is wider and works well on high-end mobile devices with widescreen aspect ratios. With this in mind I selected DCI 2k Scope 2.39. Strangely, when I rendered out the footage... to my eyes it looked every bit as detailed as the 4k render from the GH5S. I checked to make certain I had rendered the Panasonic footage correctly. Sure enough, it was 4k. I am now left wondering if there is any reason to deliver anything in 4k given that DCI 2k looks so nice when down sampled. Have any of you here experienced anything similar?

That does not look like the finished product to my eyes. The two handles are clearly battery bases from the Ronin S. So, this design would have three batteries... which seems ridiculous from a weight point of view.

Can’t say I had any problem with jcs. Had no idea he was banned. The new age stuff didn’t offend me. To each their own.

I’ll be testing this with the Canon 1DXMK2 and the C200. I’ll probably also give it a go with the Panasonic GH5S. I do not see the dual handles listed the accessories section. I think that would be a welcomed addition.

Just ordered one of these puppies. I checked it out a NAB, and it didn't seem overly heavy to me, and it seem really well made. The guys over at the DJI booth were really friendly also and answered all my questions... even when I speculated on what new products they might have coming. Not that the Tilta seemed bad, the DJI just had more of a next generation feel to it.

That’s a nice looking image from the Hasselblad... but it’s got to be a “hassle” to work with given it’s hybrid nature. At that price point ($33k), there are many better options imo.

Hi @Kieran the lens was the Canon 24-70mm F2.8 II. The image in RawLite is a big step up in terms of flexibility in post, DR is also a noticeable bump up. Make no mistake, the 1DXMK2 has a great image quality, and to that point... 8-bit, I need to talk about the 8-bit. From earl test I’m thinking the 1DXMK2 has better 8-bit. But don’t hold me to this statement just yet... I need to experiment more with 8-bit to see if that’s truly the case. But as of now, I’m struggling to understand why I would ever shoot 8-bit with the C200? RawLite edits fine... without need to transcode... directly in FCPX thanks to the new plugin. And my 2016 MBP is keeping up fine. Also, with CFast prices falling, media is becoming reasonably priced. Especially when you compare to Red. Comparing to Red: I kicked around the idea of a Red, first the Raven... then the 5k Gemini senor model... but those cameras do not lend themselves to run and gun shooting. Also, while many will scoff at AF, a quick search on line will find most of the footage, outside of major productions is largely out of focus. So I’m thinking a focus puller is mandatory for most operators. I belive the C200 is the best all around run and gun solution. Small enough to carry, well built, decent mic pres, workable AF, flexible image, good low-light and all the tools you need right there... at your fingertips. Oh, and built in NDs rock! Am I happy with my purchase? Yes, it’s great to have a dedicated video camera. It is a breathtaking revelation, once you’ve used it and compare the experience to the hassle of endlessly rigging your hybrid camera. Having all the tools with dedicated buttons to quickly access them is glorious. I’m loving it. The C100 has mojo no doubt, but I think this camera (the C200) can do double duty as doc camera or indie film camera. Talking mojo what’s the scoop on DSO Trump and Flare Factory lenses? Are they still in business? I would love to get my hands on one of these lenses after watching some footage from them shot with the C200. Check it out below (not my work):

Had a chance to take the Canon C200 out for a quick night shoot. Slapped on the Tiffen BPM 1/2 to see what it would look like. I can tell you the 1/2 strength may effect the AF... I need to do more testing to see if this is the case. AnyWho... the video is below. Let me know what you think about his combination.

So I downloaded some C200 footage to play around with... and, it seems noisy. I can’t seem to get it clean. Is nose reduction always needed with raw footage? Is that part of the normal raw process? I don’t recall always needing NR with my Blackmagic cameras. Got the CRM Files from here. Had a play with the indoor footage. I worked directly from FCPX by installing the Canon plugin. With this plugin you can import and play the files directly from FCPX. Import was not the fastest thing, taking about two minutes or so for a 30 second clip. The edit was done on a late model 15” well spec’d MBP. Have any of you worked with C200 footage? Is my experience the norm, or am I missing something? Is there a problem with this footage that explains why it is noisy? Have a play with it and post what you find

Agreed, it’s all rather non scientific... wild Wild West nonsense. No real standards are applied. Highly subjective and non repeatable.

Agreed, I intend on getting this gimbal for a c200B that I know will be a great match with it. I don't understand all the reviewers staying how heavy this gimbal is? I held it at NAB and didn’t think it was heavy at all. It felt considerably lighter than the Tilta, which was my second choice. Also the DJI booth was by far my favorite at the show. Super friendly and open to answer any questions on camera.
