  1. If that organic sensor technology ever sees the light of day, I believe we will see clean 12800. But who knows if it ever actually panned out?
  2. A ton, and here is why... at some point smartphones are going to shoot clean in low light. And smartphones are going to be doing so with tiny senors. So....
  3. Well from what few clips there are that show the camera, it looks like a GH5 attached to that anamorphic lens... so maybe this is firmware? If so, sign me up for 10bit 422 with a Raw option. I’m writing this on my iPad so theses are 1440p frame grabs.
  4. Luke, are these frame crabs from the ***** **** ?
  5. All good points, but dream as we may, it’s unlikely that anamorphic lenses are the “big announcement “.
  6. Yes, few customers with GH5 only are considering $7k and up lenses. So there is a market for reasonably priced anamorphics. For the record SLR Magic are not Leica quality. And further more neither are Veydra mini primes. I have them all, so I know first hand. Additionally, I am invited to demo the Atlas Orion series and hope to take them up on the offer sometime in the next few months. I will share what I learn. Near as I can tell, the Orion is the best bang for buck. The SLR Magic’s are ok for fooling around though.
  7. It might be doable, but I really think what we are going to see is something to do with the organic sensor tech. Panasonic has been working on this tech for more than 5 years and there has yet to be a product that has spawned from it. So this could be it. If it is, it could be a real game changer for DR and low-light. If early reports are true, we might well see clean imagery at 12,800 ISO. Who knows, perhaps even as high as 25k ISO. And I’m talking clean, not just “usable”.
  8. I’m not too sure about that. I think if any of the big names really wanted to get into anamorphic they could do so for much less than these small lens manufacturers. Panasonic should make a line of anamorphic lenses to use with the GH5. It makes sense given the anamorphic modes of the GH5.
  9. I don’t know that it would draw me away, but it might have me pick up a second.
  10. Well they support anamorphic formats but produce no anamorphic lenses. I would love to see an anamorphic lineup from Panasonic/Leica. A raw output option for the GH5 would also be welcomed. Or perhaps a lowlight GH5 variant? Just read about the organic sensor that Panasonic has been developing for the past several years. 100x wider DR and also another that can capture color in just 0.01 lux of light. We can only hope!
  11. Story is king, not camera. The camera, cinematography, actors/actresses, all of it, is simply there to tell the story. If you lose sight of that you might as well go back to filming leaves.
  12. Had the A7R2, it’s a great camera, but imo, the GH5 is the better of the two for video. The codecs hold up much better in post. Personally I was never wild about the lowlight performance of the Sony, I think the 1DXM2 is much more organic in this regards. The GH5 checks most of the buttons. But if stills are the main use, Sony > GH5.
  13. Yes the NX1 had promise. Samsung should have stuck it out.
  14. And where is the link to that article?
  15. Honestly, I don’t love the size for casual use. Also, the Canon gets a lot of attention. That can be good or bad. The GH5 is invisible. The 1DXMK2 comes out when I need great stills. It’s a fantastic camera. It’s almost like cheating when trying to get the shot. Lately, the GH5 sees more action as I have convinced myself that it is the perfect all rounder. The new codec is easy to work with. Both in cpu load and flexibility in post. And while it might be a good all rounder, the Canon is the better stills camera, and the better low light camera. I still love the video from the 1DXMK2, but if planning to do heavy post work, the GH5 would be my first choice of the two. Otherwise, the straight out of camera footage is plenty good.
  16. I don't know that the Canon is a "luxury status item". The 1DXMk2 is a real workhorse of a camera. Low-light is great and reliability is first rate. The only negative would be the size. The Leica is certainly more of a luxury item... I checked one out at the Leica store in DC... it's a lovely beast... money should not be a issues if you are considering a Leica system camera. So as I always say, why does one have to be mutually exclusive of the other? If you want a Leica and you want a EVA1... or FS7... just buy both.
  17. Can't say the idea of needing to exclusively buy DJI lenses is welcomed. I would have preferred a heavier Osmo style setup.

  19. I think"refocus" is a exactly one area where we will see dramatic improvements. Both in terms of better AF as well as in terms of changing focus points in post. Something we first saw on Lytro's camera back in 2016. We have a long way to go before we reach the limits of what is possible. And I haven't even touched on VR or AR.
  20. If one camera for life, for stills, I think one of the Leica models would be a good choice. They are lovely cameras, with amazing build quality. For video, well that's changing pretty quickly, so I think that's a tall order. You might get something that will last you for the next 5 years... but life is another matter. The combination of great low-light, skin tones, motion cadence etc.. are tough enough. But add in resolution, dynamic range, and features that are yet to be discovered and I feel we are not there on the video side.
  21. No, not at all, I meant to omit the reply altogether. Only the original post was of interest. While I do commend the filmmaker for creating the movie, it is no more relevant to this thread than shooting a movie on a Red.
  22. So Panasonic have instructed everyone to hold off from releasing footage. I think that is a positive, as the footage that has thus far been released was none too forgiving in less than ideal lighting conditions.
