@futur2 I picked up these. They seem to work without issue. I choose the micro SD version as they will likely be more adaptable in the future (can also work in smartphones, drones etc). Also the construction of the micro SD seems to be more durable. As there is no hit to performance, the micro seemed to be the best option.

It’s important to point out that all thing being equal, a 4K file is 4x the size of a comparable 1080p file. So this file would be equivalent to 4K at 800 Mbps, assuming the same compression ratio.

Ok, this is what I've been waiting for. From what footage I have seen the GH5 > EVA1 + C200. This camera rocks. Load of new firmware now imminent. I am quite excited to see what I can do with it. I just watched a few videos on YouTube of the new firmware... great DR, detail in the shadows is good. Also shadow noise seems a non-issue with this firmware. I am sure it will not be perfect in every way, but this is pretty good from what I can see. Even with YouTube compression, the footage still holds up. Nice work Panasonic! This is a good day for the GH5 faithful and a good day for content creators as a whole. Win Win

Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware
DBounce replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Keep in mind, when you buy from these grey market dealers you will save a little money short term, but you will have no warranty from Panasonic. Which is currently 3 years when purchased from an authorized dealer and registered with Panasonic. Here is a list of authorized resellers. -

That's a crazy looking rig Do you have anything you shot using it?

I returned my Feiyutech ɑ2000 last week. It was great... much more capable than the Crane V2, but when I saw it go on sale the following week, for almost half the price I paid, I considered it wise to return it and wait to see if they would also announce something substantially upgraded. FWIW, I did prefer the overall build quality of the Feiyutech to the Zhiyun Crane V2... although, Zhiyun might have stepped up their game for this release. After having used both I can report that the Crane V2 worked well with lighter lens setups. But adding an anamorphic adapter caused too much stress on the motors, leading to jittery footage when craning up and down. There was also insufficient travel from the back of the camera to the rear motor on the V2. Meaning, to balance the setup the eyepiece needed to be removed to allow the camera to clear the rear tilt motor. Conversely, the Feiyutech had ample travel, without any need to remove the eyepiece. And the motors were plenty strong to handle the load. I would love to see Feiyutech's take on this setup. Preferably, with a 45° mount option like on their smaller ɑ1000.

So you might have seen the articles claiming that the new iPhone 8 is now regarded as the best smartphone camera ever. The website DXOMarks has recently claimed this new iPhone the king of smartphone cameras. However, I was skeptical. After looking at the below shootout, I now doubt everything that DXOMarks reviews. What do you guys think? Is the iPhone 8 really the best after watch this shootout?

Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware

Well this is pretty much the end of September upon us, and still no update. I wonder if this will be released on time? -
Whatever the issue... there is still definitely and issue. If it cannot play nice on YouTube that's not good for many. I remain largely disappointed in what I have seen so far. I hope it is improved before launch.

The Vimeo effort is better, and much more detailed... not as soft. But right at about 7.46, there is some weirdness visible on the main characters face. Not what I would really call organic. It clearly shows digital noise. While I will give you the EVA1 is far more detailed than the Canon offerings, I will also point out that it seems to handle noise worst. Stranger still, some of the people here were actually pleased with the youtube rendition of this movie. I just can't see that being acceptable. For daylight, this camera is great. But that does limit its applications.

I have lights a plenty, but there is something to be said for traveling light? Travel friendly lights often do not put out many lumens. And for run and gun it can be awkward setting up lights. On a controlled set, no worries. Are you making the case for wanting poor low-light performance?

Yes this footage looks great. I really can't argue with that. But it also looks like it was done by someone with access to all the resources needed to pull off a first-rate production. Everything in it looks done to a high standard. I have little doubt that this filmmaker could make almost any camera look great. However I'm more interested in seeing how this camera performs in less-than-ideal conditions. I think that with careful use almost any camera can pull off beautiful imagery. But in my filmmaking, and I think this will be true for others also, we have to make do with less than perfect filming conditions, and it's in these scenarios where things like low light capability come into play. What good is high resolution if the moment the lighting becomes dim the image becomes extremely soft? In the end we will have to wait and see what the production camera can do in the hands of, shall we say, less gifted filmmakers and under less-than-ideal conditions.

He did not say photos, he said capture, and then went on to specifically mention the cinema video mode, saying it can output 211% more colors than the average smartphone. Rewatch it.

Here is the confirmation that the camera in the LG V30 is indeed 10bit...

Other than the lack of a middle weight codec, the C200 is a go. Mind you the Kinefinity Terra 4k and 5k are interesting cameras. But they lack real support in the USA, so they remain little more than an interesting side note. Yes, but even at $4k, would this be a worthwhile upgrade for a GH5 owner? I'm struggling to see the value of owning the EVA1. I can tell you now... I would not by this even at $3k. Not with the lowlight performance. I'll pass. Mind you, I have not completely ruled out the Canon C200. It's still on the radar, I just don't know how I would feel about the file size and extra work that it will take to process the footage. I cannot however argue with the images that it produces. They do look quite good. And to my eyes lowlight looks better than what the GH5 could produce. However, will good lighting, things even out.

Horrendous noise in the first demo starting at around 6 minutes... where the night shots begin. The second video, while better, becomes pretty soft in low-light. Well, if this is what the EVA1 brings I can say without reservation Canon C200 > EVA1. While not as detailed under close inspection the noise is rendered organically. Motion looks OK on either camera. But if I do opt for one of these two, I can tell you now it will be the Canon. That said, I am still waiting to see what the GH5 firmware update brings. I have hopes that it will trump both of these when all things are considered. Wow Panasonic, how do you knock it out of the park with the GH5 and then totally drop the ball with the EVA1? Very disappointing. A quick shout out to the film crews, I enjoyed both stories

So if it's such a great camera why is it not worth the asking price?
-
The SB is not perfect, and does not support AFC. Native is preferable.

Interesting comments regarding noise. I have concerns over the noise levels. I don't feel this is quite as noise free as I had hoped. I honestly think the C200 might have less noise or perhaps at least have more organic noise. This feels modern, but I would not say it feels videoish. I actually like the image. If I buy this camera it would be for better lowlight performance, but I am not sure that particular box has been checked. I am very curious to see what can be accomplished with the version 2.0 GH5 firmware. Hopefully, this will prove to be great in lowlight and thereby create a valid low-cost option to both.

I have the following lenses: 1. Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 Version 2 2. Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8 Version 2 3. Panasonic Leica Nocticron 42.5mm f1.2 4. Panasonic Leica 100-400mm 5. Panasonic 20mm f1.7 Pancake I love them all. The Leica lenses are very special, and I can confirm after visiting a Leica Store in DC, that the Panasonic Leica lenses are true Leica lenses. They have the same Leica build quality, fit and finish, and great optics. I think they are bargains. My goto lens for anamorphic is the 35-100mm. The 12-35mm feels pretty wide and is good quality. Those two are great general purpose lenses. The Leica lenses are very special and worth it, if you have the budget for them. The 20mm is handy if stealth is an issue. Quality is good, but you will need to learn it to get magic. BTW: I recently took the 100-400mm to a concert, and for $h!ts and giggles shot some video... I was amazed at the footage I got. I have the speed booster, but I was only listing native glass.

I started this thread as some might have missed it where I originally posted it, as the topic is not really for footage. So what do you all think? Any good? Is it "cinematic"? Color? Dynamic range? Noise?

Still not certain on the lens not connecting issues. But I would not be surprised if they are all traced back to the 3rd party batteries. Anyway, I just contacted the reseller and got issued a refund and ordered two of the genuine Panasonic branded batteries.
-
Holy $h!t... That's exactly what my camera did! I never thought the battery could cause such behavior. Now I have to take note if the other issues are also tied to third party batteries. Well that's really good to know. I really want to believe in the Panasonic system. So far I have not had anything other than good experiences for video. Regardless of battery used. And yesterday shooting with the Leica 100-400mm I was able to nail focus as reliably as my Canon 1DXMk2 or near enough as makes no difference. Still faster glass would be nice, but it can get the shot. Video with that lens proved impressive... even in low light. I think I might not send it in and instead order some Panasonic batteries. I will also pass this link onto my contact at Panasonic. They need to be aware of this.
