  1. I like the work, you so some nice skills here. But I must say, like many here, I hate the crushed black levels. It is almost distracting, and that can hurt the story. This whole video is in slow-mo. That might work in a trailer, or a music video, but are your actors going to be reading dialog in slow-mo? FYI: everything pretty much looks cinematic in slow-mo. The trick is getting it to look cinematic at normal playback speed.
  2. It's Canon who said the 1DXMk2 replaces the 1DC. You might disagree, but that would mean buying out Canon and creating a new Canon 1DCMk2 In any case, below is an official Canon rep stating that the 1DXMK2 "IS" the replacement for both the original 1DX and 1DC (8:23).
  3. Well it was up to Canon to decide which features would make it to the new model. I also would have loved to have log. But some argue log makes little sense with 8 bit video... then again, they did add it to the 5DMk4, so who knows? I think Canon was never wild about the whole DSLR/Video hybrid movement. Perhaps the C200 is meant to fill the gap? In any case, the 1DXMk2 is capable enough for a hybrid. I find more often than not I am shooting stills with the 1DXMk2. Video is 10% of my use. With that in mind I will be taking a hard look at the C200 once the reviews are out. Hybrids made more sense in the past. There are now many dedicated video cameras that seem to make more sense. The main exception is when stealth is required.
  4. The replacement is the 1DXMk2. Canon reps have stated this several times.
  5. No one knows what the specs of the middle codec will be. I'm sure that Canon has specifically instructed all employees to remain silent on this matter. So I would give little weight to any rumors at this point. That said buy this camera for what it is now. We all know that Canon can disappoint on specs. That's not to say they will... but buying in hopes of unconfirmed specs is not recommended.
  6. I'll agree with your first statement. You really need to be comfortable with what specs that are certain. But your second statement seems to contradict your first. As these potential "other options" we know even less about. What I will do is wait until there have been some reviews from people I trust in these matters. Then if all seems OK I will buy. No way I preorder without some good reviews with sample footage that I can download and play with.
  7. I think the argument for lack of 4k makes much more sense on the Cinema line... there, 4k is expected in 2017. Likewise minimum 10 bit color depth. Using DSLR for video was a more compelling case in the past. That's not to say DSLRs do not still have a place in filmmaking. Many would argue that there is nothing wrong with showing up to a paid gig with a DSLR to shoot video. But I would argue it is akin to showing up to a paid stills shoot with a C300. It's a great tool, but not the ideal tool for a stills shoot.
  8. Point taken, but it's not really an issue with the C200 is it?
  9. Shouldn't this thread really be called "the other issue with my budget"?
  10. I can see from this conversation that some here think the B-cam is about price or quality... And therefore must be inferior to the A-cam, but the fact is it's about getting shot from a different angle to support the story. That's it... Nothing more.
  11. Which is B or C or A cam comes down to preference suitability and budget. Silly has noting to do with it.
  12. Should be 10 bit minimum in 2017.
  13. Everything else is $h!t? Really? So lowlight is shit? Lens selection, battery life, durability, support, picture quality? You seem mighty convinced of the EVA1 for a camera that no one has seen a single frame from. I think I'll hold judgement for when it's released, as talking out of ones ass always stinks.
  14. I'm for C200 A cam and C200B as B cam, assuming the 1DXMk2 is out of the pictures for some reason. Hell Canon even call it the C200B... Can you take the hint!
  15. I think the 1DXMk2 is a great B-Cam. It is perfect for situation where I need something rugged or need to go low-key. The video quality looks great. Granted the 12bit raw from the C200 is much more robust, but I'm sure there will be little trouble matching the two. This solution offers the best of both worlds.
  16. Frankly I think it's ok if this camera is not for everyone. That's why other options exist. You can't be all things to all people.
  17. First review of RAW on the C200: RAW footage samples... I'm pretty pumped for this camera.
  18. I'm betting it's codec will be the same ones from the C300mkii ported over. If they do this Canon will see C200 sales get another surge. The C300mkii is due for an ungrade, and will see one soon enough. I doubt that camera is flying off the selves at this point. I think the next 300 series camera will be higher resolution... probably 6k, and might also sport a raw option.
  19. Indeed, Canon has not released what the bit depth will be with the new codec. However, they did state that it will be to SDXC media.
  20. Canon stated the firmware update with the new codec will be released in Q1 2018, so about 4-7 months after launch as the cameras do not ship until August, and the C200B does not ship until October. As for bit depth... no one knows. One thing is certain, they no longer need to protect the market from 4k cameras. They can always just release a C300MkIII with 6k or 8k output.
  21. Canon already stated that they will be updating the firmware for free to include a XF-AVC codec. This codec will likely be 4k 10bit 422.
  22. I use my PC mobile workstation for Adobe AE, my MacBook Pro for FCPX. Both work, I do however, prefer the MBP. Why? FCPX is much faster to work with than PP. So for most projects it is the MBP that I turn to. Even though on paper the PC is superior, I find it can only show that superiority when the MBP is running unoptermized software. I can't say crashing is a problem with either. But birth have crashed before. Granted, FCPX has never crashed on me.
  23. Looks good to me. Have to see what Panasonic brings, but as of now I am definitely leaning towards the Canon. It seems to match really well with the C300. Feels organic, with nice motion cadence. I'm thinking of the C200B with a loop for the LCD, or possibly... if that proves difficult to deal with a separate EVF. Not sure if I'll spring for the Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 also, or just use my L series lenses. It's food for thought.
  24. Low light for one... AF for two... I could go on, but I'm sure you can think of a couple more. Canon said they will have a free plugin for fcpx. So workflow should not be a problem by the time the camera is out.
  25. Wow, I'm pretty unimpressed with this. Disappointing.
