  1. The Varicam LT makes me think that.
  2. I think expectations are way high of this camera. Don't get me wrong, I'd love this thing to have all the bells and whistles, but I just don't see it happening. Would love to be wrong on this though.
  3. Yes, not providing a uhd option is bogus... but the mjpeg and poor quality 1080p are really inexcusable. I was hoping to pickup the mkiv as a b-cam to my 1dx mkii. However, I can see my plans will now need to change. A pity really. The video from the new camera looks good, but that crop is disappointing. Low light is not as good as the 1dx mkii... no tilt screen. The reduced weight would have been great on a gimbal, but alas, this is Canon. Btw Canon, I'll take that CLog firmware update on the 1dx mkii... quit holding back on basic features... and fix the hd mode... my smartphone is sharper... no, really! I think the biggest problem with the argument that the 5DMkIV is a "stills camera" is perhaps the fact that canon make another "stills camera"... for the same price, called the 5DSR... and that camera can shoot 50mp stills. So if you're into stills you might be better served with that model.
  4. Agreed, the Sony can produce decent colors, but you will need more effort to achieve them. That said I much favor Canon color science, as I'm sure most others do. Not sure how an A7Sii was recommended over a dedicated video camera? While both have strengths they are very different animals.
  5. http://www.businessinsider.com/tangerine-shot-on-iphone-2015-7 If I buy something and don't like it, I'll return it. And I only do business with retailers that give me this option. If the price goes down, I get a price match. Why does no one here get mad with Sony, who release new models even couple months? At least you get a few years out of a Canon before it's replaced. To be fair, the 1DC model is almost 5 years old now.
  6. I tend to agree. I would love to see a dedicated handheld implementation. Something that includes a solution for pulling focus, or a much better focusing system as on the newer Canon cameras. A Super 35 sized senor would be great to have. My Letus Helix, while generally great, can quickly become a back exhausting experience once loaded up with the 1DX Mkii, lens, monitor and wireless audio receiver. Weight limits is usefulness.
  7. FYI, I use to own the pocket camera, two in fact. So I am quite familiar with it. Also I paid $995 each and though it was a good image for the price. However, I soon learned that it's not a great choice for serious work as it is hampered by it's many niggles. Any camera can be used to tell a story. That it has been used on the set for major productions means nothing frankly. I am certain the GoPro has seen much more use in real productions than the BMPCC, so what's your point? Does any of this make the BMPCC 4k@60p and 10 bit/raw? If not, how is it an example of the first small camera with all these attributes as was suggested earlier?
  8. I'm betting it's discontinued, so they are clearing them out. The interesting part is what canon announce after they get rid of their inventory. I still think it's gonna be a firmware update to the 1DX Mkii with C-Log.
  9. The pocket is not 4k, and the battery last 30 minutes. It's not a workhorse by any means. And while I'm sure there are examples of serious commercial work being shot on one, the same can be said of the iphone also.
  10. What will you say if it doesn't have those specs? In all honesty, I doubt we will see 6k @60p from the GH5, though honestly I would love to see it. And hope they give us 10 bit, raw option, and lovely motion cadence. But would this not render the Varicam irrelevant?
  11. Twice as good! You're guessing... fact is you do not know. But time will tell.
  12. So if what you say pans out DR would be at least the same, but you would also gain far less rolling shutter, 4k 60p, DPAF plus all the other advantages of the newer camera. Essentially, there would be zero case for the 1DC asside from lower cost. I was sold on the 1DX Mkii even without c-log, as the DPAF makes working with shallow DoF on a gimbal a painless task... and 4k 60p is a great feature. http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Canon--EOS-1D-X-Mark-II-versus-Canon-EOS-1Dx___1071_753
  13. The mount is exactly the same on both cameras, so not sure what you mean by "compatibility with with Canon Cinema glass". I noticed no incompatibility when I used the Canon CN-E 24mm T1.5 L F Cine Lens on mine. As for the heat sink, it's exactly the same one that was in the 1DC. Internal "juju"? Seriously? Now you're just making $h!t up. The real difference is c-log. Add that via a firmware update to the 1DX Mkii and the DR will blow the 1DC out of the water, as the 1DC shared the same senor with the older 1DX Mk1. Doubt the validity of what I'm saying? Here is a Cinema5D article that addresses the internal difference of the 1DC vs the 1DX Mk1. After much research Canon responded with the details regarding the hardware differences between the two models. As you will see, the 1DC does in fact share the exact same previous generation sensor from the 1DX Mk1. And as test have shown the 1DX Mkii redesigned sensor easily best all prior Canon sensors.
  14. Well after "you" solve the technical problems for getting 4k 60p out of a 5D sized body without the need for all the heatpiping that the larger bodies accommodate, I'm sure Canon will be happy to sell it.
  15. Really? Well FYI, improving dynamic range was the reason for the redesign of the new sensor. You can read about it here.
  16. Sorry, but Wasim Ahmad is not Canon's "main rep"... He is in fact not a Rep at all. His title is "Technical Specialist". On the other hand Roger Machin is indeed a Canon Rep. And his official title is "CPS Pro Rep Photo & Video". So he should have a good understanding of where Canon are going with both photo and video. But feel free to discount what the man says if it does not fall inline with your reality. And IIRC, back when this discussion first came up, many were pointing out that the 1DC was still in production... Lets see how much longer that one last. Honestly, are you really hoping for a 1DC Mkii? Then be ready with checkbook in hand as the last one had a $15k MSRP. Personally, at that level there are many better options.
  17. The 1DX Mkii seems just as cinematic to my eyes. However, it seems to lean more towards the more modern variety of cinematic which is becoming the new look of cinema. Times change, and it appears Canon is moving ahead with the newer look.
  18. 14 FPS stills not ground breaking enough for you. 16 FPS in liveview?
  19. Even at $5k, you have to ask if it makes sense to forego the features that the 1DX Mkii bring to the table.
  20. Sure I do, but keep in mind this is not the only time official Canon reps have stated that the 1DX Mkii is a replacement for both the 1DX and 1DC. If you search around you will find others. When I first mentioned this month's ago many people got upset. Me, I went out and bought the 1DX Mkii and haven't looked back. Yes C-Log will be great to have and with it I believe Canon will give us a complete solution for shooting in harsh conditions. Here's the link. Start at 8:25.
  21. Don't see 10 bit coming in this format anytime soon. The 1DC was replaced by the 1DX Mkii. Canon stated this several times. This is why they added much better video capabilities to this model. Also, Philip Bloom hinted at C-Log being added as a firmware update, and while he does not work for Canon, he likely has connections that are in the know... so make of that what you will. In any case the 1DC did not make sense with the superior 1DX Mkii being priced $2k less. So the price drop, and discontinuation are logical moves.
