Used? Cheaper still broken... or stolen. Not exactly apples to apples is it.

Interesting, I'm still loving my 1DX MkII. Image is fantastic and motion cadence is nice. I'm certain you cannot go wrong with either choice.
-
Have any footage of this? Would love to see it.

Agreed, the 1DX Mkii can output clean 10 bit 4.2.2 Full HD @120 fps though I have not used this feature, I am considering it with an external recorder for some work.
-
Let hope they make that grip more ergonomic.

I approve of this message! But I might add, the AF on the 1DX Mkii is far superior to the AF on the C100. Anyone who thinks that the DPAF on the 1DX Mkii is not a huge leap forward and a true game changer has simply not used the AF on the 1DX Mkii. So they are not speaking from experience. And if you are a single operator using a gimbal, where you cannot touch the camera because both hands are occupied... well then, you really only have three choices: 1. Shoot stopped down so everything is in focus. 2. Use a camera that has the new DPAF built in and nail the entire take. 3. Shoot as normal and try to maintain the same distance from the subject and accept that some of your shots will be out of focus. DPAF is so good that I find dust gathering on my manual lenses. Whereas in the past I heavily favored them. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the DPAF on the 1DX MkII is a GAME CHANGER for productions without a focus puller that use a gimbal, or in a Run and Gun environment.

Not at all, you just need to set the right AF mode for the subject.

Yes, and now imagine the $12k price tag. Honestly, the cost/value equation will get out of wack pretty quick should such a camera ever come to be... which Canon said it would not.. the original 1DC did not sell well. In any case, I'd be much happier should Canon just release C-Log as an update on the 1DX MkII. At a $12k price point there are better options. That's why many here didn't jump on the original 1DC.

What exactly does it matter what the DR is of a dedicated video camera when compared to a hybrid? C300, FS7 etc... are all permit cameras. Try taking one into your local neighborhood coffee shop to shoot a quick interview or scene and see how quickly you are ejected. Hybrid = stealth. That's kinda the point.

It may or may not be art, but music is about timing and rhythm. A music video that fails to accommodate these attributes, is well... not a music video. It could be this conversation is beyond the level of understanding of most people. I suspect these are the same people that are hopeless on a dance floor.

Did Panasonic not add their log format to the GH4 as a firmware update? Clearly these are exactly the kind of features that can be added in firmware. Weather they will remains to be seen.

I think it really comes down to if you like the image that you see. And really I like the images from both of these cameras. The 1DC is a great camera, but for me it was also compromised in many ways. While all cameras are compromised in some way, I personally find the 1DX Mkii has a more "acceptable" mix of compromises for my use. That said, either is more than up to the task of delivering pro results in a rugged and dependable package. These truly are the only two games in town if you need pro-level results from a hybrid body.

Well for one thing, your video should be in-sync to the music. Most music video are shot with the music that is to be sync'd to playing while the talent acts out their role. This music is used strictly as a guide to aid syncing the footage in post. I'm sure all the pro in the forum know this. And I'm sure all the pros in the forum can clearly see you did not do this. If you had posted this footage and titled it as "some interesting clips of the woman I love"... Well, I would have said nothing. But you stated it was a music video... Which it is clearly not. If you want me to teach you, I can, but I am not cheap! Best just goggle. There are several good tutorials about how to make music videos online.
-
Maybe you should google around and educate yourself? But here's a thought, is every video that has background music a "music video"? Well then?
-
Well while you continue to wait for a camera that will never materialize, I think I'll go shoot some videos with the 1DX Mkii
-
No one else has said it, so I will... This is NOT a music video. It is a series of random clips with some background music. And the two are not the same. Frankly, it looks more like vacation footage.

We'll Canon have stated publicly that the 1DX MKII is a direct replacement for the 1DC. Goto 8:30 and have a listen to the Canon rep answer this question. Rewind back to 6:00 and listen to how Canon envision this camera being used. There are many other videos and articles where Canon have stated exactly this point. Google around. And fyi: Canon frequently continues production of old products after releasing the replacement model. Take for example the excellent 100-400mm mkii L lense. The mki is still in production and can be purchased new from any dealer: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/162616-USA/Canon_2577A002AA_100_400mm_f_4_5_5_6L_IS_USM.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1092632-REG/canon_9524b002_ef_100_400mm_f_4_5_5_6l_is.html

Haven't used my A7Rii since I got the 1DX Mkii, so I know exactly where you are coming from. Not sure how someone can write a damming review on a camera that they have never used? But I guess that doesn't bother some. After having used the 1DX Mkii for a couple weeks now I love it more and more. Zero buyer remorse. It's a fantastic hybrid, and a worthy successor to the 1DX and 1DC both of which Canon stated it replaces.
-
Not sure what you mean by more filmic. The 1DX Mkii can be quite cinematic in the modern sense. So really you are looking at the old look verse new. Personally, I am extremely happy with the results. Low light is quite good, 4k 60p, AF amazing. I'll go out on a limb and say if you can't get it done with a 1DX Mkii then the problem isn't the camera. And honestly, I find the files to be quite robust. It's a dam good camera... 100% Pro grade. DBOUNCE APPROVED!

Dolly shot was one of the first things that I attempted, just out of curiosity. And I can tell you that the AF helps immensely.
-
But the 1DC "IS" nothing to go by. They are different cameras with different senors.
-
The 1DC is not the 1DX Mkii? So I'm not certain this applies. However, I'm going to do more testing soon. How can you tell if sharping is indeed still being applied?
-
Believe me, I certainly appreciate how big of a factor the AF is on the 1DX MKii, I plan to fly ours on the Letus Helix, and knowing it can lock focus like it does is a huge deal. Also you can pull focus remotely using the app with the WiFi module connected. I couldn't agree more, image quality means nothing if you didn't get the shot.
-
I have to agree with everyone who has stated that Canon should have included C-Log on this camera (Canon, you need to hear your customers on this one). But nonetheless, I also have to confess that in spite of this, the 1DX Mkii is the best hybrid to date. And a much more compelling video camera than any other hybrid to date. While a case could certainly be made for a dedicated video camera like the FS7... as the price is pretty close, the fact remains there are places you can take a hybrid that you simply would not be allowed to take a dedicated video camera. Also it is weather-sealed, and in the real world that is important. I can easily carry the 1DX Mkii on a plane, and still have 60p, in a tank like body... that is reliable, works in less than ideal lighting, and I don't need a focus puller... even with a low f-stop. Nothing else on the market can make these claims. Not Blackmagic, not Red, Not Kinefinity, not Sony... Frankly not anyone. So if you want an on the go, rock solid reliable, weather-sealed, pro-level unit with 4k 60p this is the only option.

Personally, I don't miss focus peaking when a camera can lock on to focus as well as the 1DX Mkii. I would have taken log, but I will use technicolor cinestyle and Marvel and be pretty close. That's not to say Canon should have left it out, because at this price point it should definitely be included. As for codec, it would be nice if it were more efficient, however, it is a high quality codec and the end results look great. Perhaps I'm missing something? Is there another weather-sealed super tough camera with great battery life, 60p 4k that can also shoot 14-16fps stills, with best in class AF that I am unaware of?
