Well I guess some people are just easier to please than others. As for judging, as I have not had any hands on time, I can only judge by what I see, and I see crooked buttons. If so easy to fix, why is it not fixed? Just makes me wonder what else is not fixed.
-
I do mean the buttons... They do not appear to be labels. Power button is misaligned, as is SSD and LUT button. And if this is a pre-production model surely they're had time to go over it? And since no-one outside of Kinefinity has handle this unit at the time of this shooting, why should anything be less than perfect? I'll remain skeptical until I see evidence to prove this product will be reliable.

Why are the buttons crooked? Yes some might call this nitpicky, but if QC let something so obviously visible slip through... somethings that is external and would clearly be noticed, then one had to wonder what defects slipped pass QC on the interior of the camera. Imo, if you're showing up to play you should bring your A-game. This looks sloppy and makes me question their QC.

I think one of the biggest problems with the Sony A7 series is the motion cadence. Funny that I would say that, as only a short while ago I really had no idea what that was. But now that I do, I can safely say that no matter what you do with the grade, these cameras still have an underlying, "videoish" quality caused by this motion cadence. Granted, you can mask this to some extent by use of cinematic camera movements and appropriate lighting. But in the end, once you combine the motion cadence with the limited bit rate of the A7 series cameras, you soon reach a point where you'd be better off trying to get as close as you can to the look you want in-camera... So that you won't need to push the image too much in post. They are still great cameras. Indeed I own the A7Rii and love it. But there are limitations.

Both Canon and Sony have huge booths at NAB. Perhaps BIG Booth = BIG NEWS!!! ... hmmmm?

Interesting analogy, and I have to concur. I also love the way that Canons work with people also. I know those two videos were shot with CLog, and the 1DX Mk ii does not have CLog. I am hoping that the new camera will not lose any of the former's magic. There was recently a video on Vimeo that compared the 1DX Mkii with the 1DC... and when I say "compared", I mean they physically had both cameras for testing. They also mentioned concerns over the lack of CLog, so I wonder if Canon will seek to fix this omission? I'm sure it is something that could easily be added in the firmware. Or better yet, just add it to the production version.

Didn't Kraft already make a camera?

NAB is tomorrow... Last chance to make your predictions people. Lets hear em!

To be honest, if there was a difference in color depth or anything else it was marginal at best. After performing several test shoots side by side to see if there as any gain to be had by recording to the external recorder, I ended up returning it and now just shoot internal. To me the slight gain in quality was not a good trade-off for the much larger file sizes. But after reviewing my post, yes there was a difference, but just not a big enough difference to warrant the extra bulk and larger file sizes. Also, I did not find that I could push the colors further in post by using the external recorder. This leads me to believe that the bit depth is still 8 bit. The difference is sharpness is down to the codec.

Armen, why is it soooo dark looking? I seldom see bright lively footage from Blackmagic cameras.

I would like to see some affordable (read $1k-2k) anamorphic Canon EF mount lenses.
-
I'll go first... I say Sony will announce a new full frame E-mount full body camera. Not sure what the specs will be, but I fully expect this camera (A99?) to be Sonys answer to Canon's 1DX Mkii. What do you think? And do you have any predictions of your own?
-
I also would love to learn that Kinefinity is a solid option, as so far the footage that I have seen looks pretty good. But questions remain.

I'll be at NAB, what would you like me to check out?

I have the letus helix, what would you like to know. Fyi, it's awesome! -
Much Canon bashing here. Why? Go buy something else if you hate Canon. I for one will be picking up a 1DX Mk II. If it's horrible, I will sell it. But most likely it's going to be with me for a few years. Sony's are obsolete in six months... Well resale value is anyway. That's why I get my monies worth out of them, and then sell and get the next model. Relax. PS: I also bet AR will be getting a 1DX MkII within the year;-)

Are you planning to buy one? Do you have an order in?

I believe everyone here is being tongue and cheek. I've yet to see a single owners review from any of the regular forum members here for any Kinefinity product. That speaks volumes. Nuff said.

Your running haswell, not skylake.

FYI: If you are planning to run Adobe CC don't bother with Windows 10: I have seen multiple post about Adobe performance issues when comparing the Windows 10 version to the Mac. Additionally, when running the same project on both a 2015 MacBook Pro and a 2016 Dell Precision 5510 Mobile workstation configured with the latest mobile Xeon chip, Quadro Graphics and double the ram as the MacBook, the older MacBook is able to perform the same task 20x faster. Yes, 20x faster. The Windows 10 Mobile workstation cannot even playback the footage smoothly in Quicktime. Adobe is not compatible with Windows 10 in its current state. I believe Quicktime is perhaps the culprit here. It does not work well in Win 10, and Adobe seems to require Quicktime to work. So Adobe + Win 10 = PAIN!!!

Surely not... Eye roll... hmmm!!! Got those checkbooks ready suckers... customers?

I think Andrew is a bit disheartened that Canon seems to be holding back features on many of their more reasonably priced cameras. That is perhaps tainting his views. I do wish he had done a real review of this camera, instead of just saying it's crap, nuff said.

Works fine in the 1DX Mkii.

Funny I thought the article which is over a year old, was about the Kinemax 6k. Pretty sure that's been released. Oh, not on the list? That's what I thought. Nothing that Kinefinity produces is on the list. I recall seeing a review by Tom Antos, for this camera (Kinemax 6k). He had good things to say, but when it came time to open his checkbook? Well, no sale Kinefinity. Personally, I'll go with a name I know and a local warranty.
