Nothing wrong with that at all. I shot a play the other day and went with standard rather than dealing with the log profile.

Don't ever make something longer that 15 minutes for a short. If your at ~40 minutes expand it to a feature. The last short film I worked on was 27 minutes, the runtime absolutely killed its festival potential. Because the festivals can either pick your film or 2 others. Don't force them to make that choice. This is true though, half hour to an hour is okay if your aiming for TV.

Happy new years everyone! So does everyone have a new years resolution? For me, shifting my focus to lighting and experimenting with filters.

Blu-ray all the way for me. I've made DCP's and quality exports for work, and I seem to be able to spot compression a mile away. I've always wished that there was an option in Netflix to load ahead on a video. Any time the compression crops up it yanks me out of the film and I have to pause to let it buffer. Prefer the perfect presentation to Blu-ray, and yes I've started buying UHD. I'm always chasing a higher quality image.

The new Sony 24-105

Yeah A7rII video in Super 35. Love my voigtlanders, and it is pretty nice that they all cost ~$500

How is the rolling shutter?
-
Unless they catch it and depending on price, you may get it at that price.

Loving the extensive use of the 2.00:1 aspect ratio. It's my favorite format and I'm glad it's being heavily used here.

Oh I know, a large part of it is nostalgia for an older camera.

Yes, you lose quality on every single conversion. Try and troubleshoot the XML round-trip. If you can, exporting to 4K before you go into resolve would help. I would try and learn how to stabilize, crop, and zoom in Resolve's powerful tools, doing it at the exact same time as your grade.

Hard call. Loved the video on the D750 (use a A7rII now) but always go back and forth on buying a D750 for cheap. The 1080p isn't the same as 4K, but it has great DR, highlight rolloff, and the best Full Frame rolling shutter performance you can buy, making the motion cadence great. But my A7r II has an image stabilizer, 4K, and most importantly, an EVF. I want to rent a D850, but I'm afraid I'll sell by Sony gear if I do.

D750 is an incredible stills camera.

I second Andrew, I would take a serious look at the D750. Love that camera.

Source on that $400 million number? They maybe spent $100 on marketing, MAYBE. It'll break even internationally. Hardly would call it a bomb. Valerian was a bomb. Hoping the great reviews will give it great legs in the U.S. Absolutely loved the film myself.

URSA pro is perfect if you don't underexpose. However I might consider the GH5 with a great lens set instead. I just wish the GH5 was super35.

Camera B. Natural, yet stands out.

Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware

Dolby Vision Sets are what you want, HDR 10+ is a new competitor. Both these sets are MUCH brighter than regular HDR (HDR 10) sets. I'm excited for HDR, but it adds a huge complication to workflow. -
$20 x (the amount of time your going to spend working on it) ...minimum. If you need a number, don't do it for less than $500.

Go with this option, great combo. Do you already own canon glass?

I loved my NX1, but DR and Rolling shutter are far more important in a cinema environment. In Interview and event situations that's a different matter...

Probably going to build up a set of M mounts next, starting with the 21mm 1.8

The 40mm is my favorite of the lot, 28mm a close second. Others come close, but the 58mm renders differently. Don't underestimate the 90 3.5 and 20mm 3.5, don't have a large aperture, but they have a ton of separation and great rendering. Best thing about these is you can get all of them for around $500 or less each.

Ahem. https://www.instagram.com/p/BT17maSgc0E Love them. I've had other posts in this thread with them as well. Shot with 20mm, 28mm, 40mm, 90mm 20mm 3.5 only: 58mm: 40mm:
