Download Devinchi Resolve, a really powerful free editor. If you like Nikon I would stick with it for now. Get the D750, fantastic video in small file sizes. Use your existing lenses. Get a Tripod, a good external mic. and a lavaliere mic. Then shoot and edit as much as you can. Upgrade your gear as needed after that point.

I recommend sticking to what you know for now. If you want to mess around, you can load LUT's through the Lumetri panel in premiere, you can find some you like online or use the looks already in Premiere. Other than that look up tutorials and practice. Grading is not simple, and your question is far to broad to cover in a simple response.

Most don't use the standalone app, so they may just not know. I do know filmconvert supports 4K footage, but I don't know what your exporting out of your timeline in FCP. You should always export with highest quality before bringing it into another application. For question 2, I would still export as 4K if your going to use filmconvert as the final step.

Not just space on your Desktop, the cards that you have to buy to record a full shoot day. You will need a lot! Also look into the monitoring of the RAW signal. I don't think you can use and external monitor with the 5D Mark 2 and last I saw there was some issues with the Mark 3.

It's incredibly sharp and works well with most anamorphic adapters because of it's compact design.

Well are you dialing down the settings in camera? C-log is meant to be pushed and played with in post, it is a stronger tone curve for grading. For this canon I would suggest shooting without dialing down the camera's contrast, it seems to causing your midtones (and skin) to wash out. If you want to drop saturation I would do that in post.

Umm you clipped the highlights to hell. Also the sharpening is terrible, with clear artifacts in his hair and eyelids. His skin looks like it was covered in chrome.

I'd rather stick to 2.8 or stop down more than deal with sharpening and adding contrast back into those shots.
-
For the love of god, can we not get into this argument again? Used my Rokinon 24mm a bit more, found out that I do like it from 2.8 where the microcontrast and detail comes back, just won't use it at 1.4-2. I guess I became spoiled by my Voigts and their high-contrast from wide open.

You can always use diffusion.

Must...not...rebuy. Loved this camera when I had it. The Soft look of the footage is very pleasing and the internal codec was ridiculously good for it's bitrate and color depth. And to this day still has the best motion/rolling shutter performance of any full frame camera.

Drop the footage in media encoder and convert them to Cineform or DNxHR

Is the shot near the end supposed to be blue? Because if it is, you need calibrate your monitor, it's leaning toward magenta in most of your shots here. So of course I decided to take my own crack at the footage, goal to see how interesting I could make the footage if it was just given to me. Selective sharpening, retiming, and reframing are used. Did not enjoy that low shot so I didn't bother with it. 10-Bit - Very impressed with great range and edit flexibility. 8-Bit - Disappointed, clear banding on skin tones.

Yeah definitely limits my options. Single wide but whole set would be nice , trying to build up a set to complement my voigtlanders. Currently I'm just running with them and a Tokina 28-70. I threw the Rokinon on for 5 minutes and am just not impressed, not enough to build up a set of them, as I would always turn to my voigts first. Couple options for me next: - Olympus OM /Minolta set - Canon 28-70 2.8 & 80-200 Like the look, but so many people shoot with these. - Nikon 20-35D and 80-200D I've had both and they are built like tanks, the 20-35 actually has very nice "pop" - Macro-Vario-Elmar-R 35-70mm F/4.0 - Because it seems reasonable priced, well sized, with an incredible look. Had some Canon FD primes, nice look but overall it wasn't for me. Also had Nikon Primes, but to me they were to similar to my voigtlanders.

They would be perfect, but they don't cover the A7r 2 sensor, which is what I'm currently shooting. Thanks for advice though.

Purchased a Rokinon 24mm Cine Prime...don't know if I'm keeping it, not very satisfied with the look and it looses a ton of micro-contrast below T.3. Wanted to build a low light kit to offset my voigtlanders, any other options anyone can recommend for lenses in the sun $1200 range?

Always keep in mind with the A6300/A6500 series, the Rolling shutter is atrocious compared with other cameras. The Sony may look better in locked off shots, but the GH5 has a better codec, better motion, better battery life, no recording limit, more shooting options, and a better grip and controls. Better DR, to me, is not worth it in comparison.

Aside from sensor size, on paper this is perfect.

Raids are not for Backup. Unless you do what do what don just suggested, Raid 6 or 10. Better served with a fast drive to work off of, a G-Tech external backup, a an additional off-site backup if that fails.

One thing that is never brought up is Easyrig's, great to keep a "handheld" look but keep more control of the camera. They are being used more and more on set and are great on long shoots.

The 85 1.4D is a tank, the 85mm 1.8D is terrible however.

Saw La La Land and had huge problems with it. Emma Stone has two incredible scenes but I felt that the musical numbers were overdone, not well choreographed, and poorly edited. Unlike you spink I had major issues with the ending, not how it ended, but the filmmaking and editing used to convey the scene. Personally loved Arrival, High-Rise, Hacksaw Ridge, Kubo and the Two Strings, "Hail, Caesar!" , The Nice Guys, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Still want to catch: Don’t Think Twice, Sing Street, The Lobster, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Loving, Silence, Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight, Hell or High Water, Fences, Paterson, Zootopia, The Boy and the Beast, Captain Fantastic, Green Room, Fences, The Little Prince, A Monster Calls.

I don't think it's going to drop anytime soon, especially for what the camera offers it's a hell of a bargain.
