http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?303559-Measuring-rolling-shutter-put-a-number-on-this-issue! It is both the best (1080p) and worst (4K) camera when it comes to rolling shutter.

Holy...hope this comes true. I'm not holding my breath until I see some leaked 240fps footage, but given what we've gotten so far, it may just happen. Still hoping for 4K cropped mode to reduce RS in future firmware, to me RS in 4K is the #1 issue with the camera still.

As to reliability, been using the camera for a documentary as a B-cam and occasionally A-cam. Don't want to jinx it it but so far no issues, it's performed consistently well at 4K for full 30 minute clips back to back. I have not seen any reports of failed recordings/unpredictable issues popping up. As neosushi says above they have also been on the ball so far for firmware, above and beyond even high end cameras. Now is it as reliable as a C100 recording to 2 cards? No it's not, but if you need that level of backup you can get those cameras which I think fall in a whole other category. I don't think the Samsung is any less reliable than a 5D Mark 3 or GH4.

Yes that is correct. I have a Ninja Blade and it will not work at all with the NX1 because there is no clean 1080p out of the camera. I really hope they add support for this in a future update, as 1080p is surprising great on the camera.

Nx1 4k h.265 4096 x 2160 to 4k editiable solution for Windows
Geoff CB replied to Ted Benjamin Williams's topic in Cameras
I'm sorry but this is not true. They may be as small, but they will not hold up to any level of grading whatsoever. -
If it's a faster readout speed it's worth it. Would love it for this reason on my NX1.
-
I curious about this as well. I had heard that the ninja star downconverts 4K automatically, but have seen no tests to confirm this feature. Hopefully someone can chime in and answer, because it would be a very useful feature to have. Though I also hope they offer clean 1080p out on the NX1 as well at some point.

Either user fault like xenogears states, or leftovers from those who still have the firmware 1.1 bug where the exposure would drift. This is fixed with updated firmware.

Olympus E-M5 Mark II - love and hate at first sight
Geoff CB replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yikes, well that rules them out I guess. Tried the camera out in the store and loved the layout and EVF, but cannot get past the image quality of M43 and it looks like the haven't improved video either :/ -
The blackmagic has a horrid screen (need to buy an EVF/Moniter), horrific audio inputs (external recorders), poor ergonomics (Shoulder rig needed for handheld) He said his budget is $1500, you are not going to get a BMCC with the gear needed to use it in common situations for under $1500. GH2/3 is plenty of camera to start shooting on.
-
Simple video shot with it, gives you an idea of how it renders. Just the interview bit.
-
I am very much against recommending a Blackmagic when you first start out. The sheer volume of support gear you need to make it work is a gigantic hurdle. I think at this point it's actually better to buy a used Hacked GH2/GH3 and buy a couple lights and lenses with your money.

I have posted these to other threads, but here is some testing I have done with the NX1. Some Notes after filming for a bit and using it on productions. ISO Limits: Each Resolution and framerate seems to have a limit that when you hit it the video quality skydives, these are what I have found so far. 1080p 120 fps Mode is fantastic until you hit ISO 500, then it gets murky, then unusable past ISO 800 60p goes bad at ISO 800 30p & 24p are perfect till ISO 800, usable in 1250, 2000 only suitable for some documentary situations. DCI 4K 1250 is your limit, 2000 if your downscaling to 2K UHD 1600 is the peak, 3200 if your downscaling to 1080p Want to do a technical test with steadily ramping the ISO values. Will post it here when it is complete.
-
Can anyone confirm this works with the NX1? Might purchase it for run&gun situations. Like the ability to switch modes.
-
Um, like the above said the cheapest 4K 10-Bit 4:4:4 Camera is the Chinese KineMINI that will run you ~$4500 for that ability (4K upgrade). Other than that your talking 15 grand or more. On the topic at hand: really enjoy using PotPlayer to review my footage, plays back absolutely fine. VLC still hangs for me.
-
Yeah your gonna have to be, 8-bit 4:2:0. We are talking about a $1500 camera here not a RED.

Can't speak for the planar, but I absolutely love the MIR, creamy classic look with warm tones. Given the crop factor with the speedbooster that is the one I recommend. I think the planar might be a little long for general use. One thing I will say is that the mir is absolutely terrible for landscapes, hate the look of it stopped down past f5.6.
-
Gamma DR? Why do you like this over the previous settings? I try not to drop contrast to much, because at higher ISO values it absolutely kills the skin tones for me. My Current Preferred: 1080p Gamma DR Sharpness -9 Contrast -4 Master Black Level +8 4K Gamma DR Sharpness -10 Contrast -5 Master Black Level +10
-
Can confirm it fixes the audio issue. Also, low light in 1080p is significantly improved. Edit: It does NOT fix the audio issue, apologies guys.
-
It was possible in the previous version, but was very slow and could hang. Will check and see if it's accelerated enough in this version.

Gold As to the gear thing, acquiring new gear give me less and less excuses to create bad content. I also just love tech. We are at the point every camera is so good you cannot blame the camera anymore. Right now I made a rule for myself that I cannot buy a new camera until I have a proper lighting kit, I hope I can hold myself to that. It should be a rule for every camera owner, no buying the next camera until you at least earn the cost of your current camera back.

Having used the sony A6000 with a setup like this I strongly disagree, it makes it awkward supporting and focusing large adapted glass because your left hand has to reach further to the right. Its the perfect setup for using light samsung lenses in AF mode, but filming with this setup is an inconvenience.
-
Yeah I wish mirrorless cameras would support offering a linear focus mode for their fly by wire lenses. I don't see why they don't, it encourages filmmakers to purchase their native lenses instead of adapting 3rd party glass.

Ehhhh I don't enjoy how the highlights are acting in that, they seem to fall off a cliff. Look at her cheek on the lipstick shot and the light as she is walking down the hallway.
