  1. You want to have 180 shutter for the final framerate of your project. For example footatge recorded at 50p 1/50 will look fine when converted to 25fps, but create a blurry unnatural motion effect at 50 fps. Inversely recording at 1/100 while shooting 50p, if you convert that to 25p it will look overly sharp and jittery. Recording 50p for a 25p project also halves your effective bitrate. I know it's nice to have options in post, but in this case the trade offs are most likely not worth it for you.
  2. You know using H265 I think is an advantage, the format supports 10-bit 4:2:2 and the file size reduction is incredible. Hopefully this company takes a serious stab at it, and they give an option for a Nikon mount
  3. 1) Agree, I think to further prevent this the simplest solution is to up the bitrate. Maybe a double 150mb/s mode (Ultra Pro) that has a warning when you turn it on that if you don't have a fast enough card you will get dropped frames. 2) yup 3) This is the fault of the software your using, not the camera. The 4K image is flawless in terms in detail. 4) Significantly agree. I've been using the camera for doc work and recording audio externally instead of in the camera. 5) I agree, when you stop recording it should stay in movie standby mode. 6) I have not encountered this issue. Is it repeatable in your camera? What settings does it reset?
  4. Yeah hanging that lens onto the end of the Canon 40mm pancake seems like a bad idea Great work as always from this company though, always glad to see a company focus on anamorphics that don't kill the budget. Actually sad to hear the lens works better with modern glass, prefer old metal lenses for use with the anamorphot.
  5. Yeah, you going to hold that rig handheld? Where are you going to put those mic/recievers for that ELR input? Ergonomics matter when you have to deliver a product. Also HDMI is a HORRID thing to rely on.
  6. I like how they also list the third party products used in post. That's pretty classy of them, if it were Adobe: "EDITED COMPLETELY IN PREMIERE!"
  7. This. I am curious about the rolling shutter and the S16 mode. Hope to see some samples.
  8. I have used the nikonhacker bitrate hacks on my D800 and they have been very stable for me. I think you should be safe in installing the hack and using that for video recording for the camera. I shot this with the hacked D800. As for the Nikon cameras you should use. I have used both the D7000 and D800.. The best option from what I have seen is the D5200 & D5300, great image quality in those cams and better framerate and compression compared to older nikons.
  9. I think you can shoot fully manual on the D3100. Set it to M-mode on the Top dial, turn your lens to Manual focusing, flick the live view trigger around the record button and you should be good to go. Only thing I don't know is if it has any limitations in terms of aperture changes and ISO adjustment during recording.
  10. After using the camera I hope they add an even higher bitrate option for those with fast enough cards. Been experimenting with anamorphic on it, works great. And I still love the colors out of this camera!
  11. Great footage as usual Brother! Her hair just pops out of the screen and that waterfall shot is spectacular. I, like you, have just fallen in love with this camera. The look of the image that it produces and the way it handles just plain works for me.
  12. Honestly, Super 35. Full Frame is great, but only if I see the lens stopped down a little. I don't like the long lens shallow depth of field look unless done for a specific purpose. 35 and 40mm Anamorphics. Loved your example shot with the MOVI, great camera work using it in creative ways. Enjoy the effect of it seeming like a tripod shot and then suddenly having movement.
  13. Gorilla Grain + Speedgrade Fuji ETERNIA LUT+ very slight magenta and white balance adjustment.
  14. Here you go. Used the Rocky Mountain Movie Converter to Prores HQ. Can't wait until premiere can edit these natively, should provide better results.
  15. Just use Gamma C on default. Looks great straight out of camera.
  16. This is slightly graded. Gamma DR, Sharpness -9, Contrast -5, Master Black Level +11. 1/50 shutter
  17. Personal Settings: Gamma DR, Contrast -6, Sat +1, Sharpness -8, Gamma +11. Also for shooting I think it's best if you slightly underexpose the image, but that is personal taste. Also don't discount the 1080p mode if you need to cover fast action, it's plenty sharp and the RS is amazing in that mode.
  18. Great footage man, I've been shooting with the camera as well and loving it.
  19. Agree with this, the audio gain issue needs to be fixed. It's a significant problem with the camera for interview/doc work. Another great to have feature. 2K Mode (2048x1080)
  20. Unfortunately I tried this, the camera does not do clean 1080p out, I'm hoping they fix this in a firmware update.
  21. That is very impressive, great beauty lighting. Nice clean framing as well. Did you use the 28-70 ED? I don't know why this happens with youtube, but the colours don't pop until the video is set to 1440p .
