Just picked up a used pair of Komputerbay 256gb 1066x cards and seem to be getting a noticeably slower start up with these cards on my 5D MKIII compared to my Lexar 256gb 1066x card. About a 10 sec startup time with the Komputerbay vs about a 5 sec startup time with the Lexar (i.e. the time it takes the full menu to appear). This is with Global draw turned on (seem to remember that being an important factor, been a while so not 100% sure). Bench mark test showed 79 MB/s for the Komputerbay vs 85 MB/s for the Lexar. Anyone with an idea of whether that's normal for Komputerbay vs Lexar 256gb 1066x CF cards?

Does the remote allow you to adjust the panning range?

I guess it depends on what type of slider moves you need. I still have my Konova 32" slider which is also motorized and is hacked to do continuous back and forth motion but I've been using the Edelkrone slider + motion module for about 6 months now and have never felt like I was limited by its length, at all. I haven't even thought about using the Konova since getting the Edelkrone motion kit. The one thing this unit needs to make it completely indispensable is a pan and tilt module (maybe something built into the flex tilt head). I will agree that it's expensive but it helped that I was able to buy the slider component used on kijiji for half the original price.

I highly recommend the Slider One + Motion Module for run and gun stuff. I picked it up earlier this year and have absolutely no regrets. Here's a noise test...

I've got the Wooden Camera cage with a Ninja Blade monitor. Didn't pay that price for it though. Picked up all my stuff used via kijiji. https://www.woodencamera.com/canon-1dc-camera-accessory-kit-base-guide-s/336.htm

I will always throw the Marantz PMD661 into threads like this. No question Zoom's has got the market cornered with their name and features. And I will say their pre-amps have gotten consistently better over time (I was down with Zoom for a minute. Had the original H4 and then the H4N), but they still don't have sh*t on the 661. Basically if audio quality is your priority then imho the Marantz PMD661 (Version 1 or 2) is a hugely slept on option (unless you need more than 2 XLR mics). I think it's mostly because it came out before the indie/DSLR revolution, but the PMD661 is still kind of the standard in the public radio broadcast world where audio quality is really all that matters (it's the standard recorder at the CBC in Canada, and I know This American Life and other PR shows swear by it). Anyways, just my 2 cents but the PMD661 (for what you get in pre-amp quality, IN/OUT options and overall sound quality) is hugely slept on in the indie video world, and available used nowadays for $300 easy (just sold one of my units for that price). AND if you're lucky enough to get one of the OADE Mod'ed units, you're taking that thing to a whole other level. https://www.oade.com/digital_recorders/hard_disc_recorders/PMD-661MODS.html It's also bigger than a lot of the newer recorders out there, but realistically I don't see how it's size is really an issue beyond the optics of it being `bigger than' as opposed to it actually being big.

I'm all for these discussions about the virtues of 1080 vs 4K vs 8K, but let's be honest here, the "push" for 4K (and beyond) is largely being driven by the corporations that NEED a new tech breakthrough to survive. The adoption of 4K, 8K (etc) by professional content creators is one thing - but it's the adoption of these new resolutions by their bread and butter consumers that the corporations are banking on, because it will force people to update every gadget and piece of tech they currently use/own and give companies a new lease on life. But there is no overtly unanimous, genuine/organic demand for anything higher than 1080 from the wider consumer base. It's all coming from the corporate end and of course some pro/pro-sumer content creators that see the practical benefits of 4K and 4K+.

Are you saying you lose nothing image quality-wise using this Edmika conversion adapter?
-
What's the quality loss like when using the Edmika conversion mount?

And they just dropped this yesterday.... wish there was a way to use it with the motion module but no go.... ah well, picked up the slider one, motion module, flex tilt 2 combo and it's all I need. Great compact kit!

Man, I am so glad I kept my 5DIII. Now this makes me question why I even need a 1DC. I think two 5DIII's and an 80D (once that ML hack is ready) would give a lot of shooters everything they need.
-
As promising as all this is, doesn't it kind of begin to undermine the official difference between the 'C' and non C lines? And in bigger terms does it signal a significant and deeper shift in Canon's marketing strategy and philosophy moving forward?
-
Sorry, not trying to hi-jack this thread, but considering that every camera in the C-line except the 1DC now has DPAF, is it crazy to think Canon might offer it in the future? Or isn't there at least some kind of argument to be made about them offering it to keep the C-line uniform as far as basic specs go?
-
Solid ML support is really what would sway me to even remotely consider a MK IV. As is I've got a MKIII with ML and a 1DC, so a MK IV with ML seems like a good camera trifecta for my needs.
-
Just wish Canon would give the 1DC DPAF...

Interesting sound test...

Best video so far....

I'd echo the sentiments of those saying there's more to the 1DC/C100 comparison than just the image. But I'd actually go the other way and say the built in mic and ND filter functions are exactly why I went with the 1DC. If you're like myself and many of my peers that make video and radio content, the ability to build up the 1DC (using the same high quality portable recorders and mics used to create our radio content) and break it down to go stealth, shoot b-roll or photos when needed is an extremely welcome advantage. Also, the 1DC is big enough to feel right when it's rigged up but still be small enough to fit in my Think Tank Retro 5. But it really is about factoring in more than just the IQ.
-
@DaveAltizer what year was your 1DC made? Asking because I know there was that pixel/heating issue that was affecting models of the 1DC, so just trying to get a sense of whether it was models made before a specific year/period.
-
I'm in no way an expert but totally impartial to Canon vs Sony, but the 1DX II image seems more out of focus than having an issue with lack of resolution. I'll admit I have no idea why I feel that way. Maybe it's because the 1DX II seems really soft for a 4K image that hasn't been magnified by that much.

One more for the new year :-) Wondering if B&H will stock these soon...

Another review...

More first looks and comments... he also demonstrates the sound of the motor at different speeds... pretty quiet... think I'm sold on getting this now!
-
Not much of a test but first footage of the motion module in action. He mentions it continues to work even when he's shut the app off. Also says he'll have a proper review up in a bit. The nat sound makes it hard to tell but it seems like a fairly quite motor. Just picked up a used copy of the slider. Any one else pick up the motion module yet?

Reading through the actual thread, I'm hard pressed to not believe it. There are several 1DC owners that report the same issue. I only saw one thread covering the issue over here. But I'm more interested in hearing from 1DX MK II users.
