  1. Care to point out these big flaws... I'm just seeing a nice image.
  2. There are a few shots in the "Forest" clip that are plain beautiful, especially the CU of her hands touching the plants. Exciting camera.
  3. Lame, yes... But it is intriguing that they are still working on this product.
  4. Yeah... resolution is the stumbling block.... I have heard the Sony 4k phone helps, but think 4k per eye will be the real breakthrough point.
  5. Yep... it's gonna be big... What is interesting is that it is impossible to show how good it is using text, images, video etc ..... It feels like an exclusive club right now. In 5-10 years, it'll be stunning (once we hit 8k per eye!)
  6. Vive is amazing... the best I have used, by a long way
  7. They can call it what they want.... It is simply not a full frame camera (36mm x 24mm) When they say Full Frame on that spec sheet, they just mean "non windowed"... eg, it uses the full frame of the sensor... They have been (mis) using that term since day one. I guess Raven is full frame too?
  8. They are not full frame http://www.red.com/tools/crop-factor
  9. btw - neither RED or Arri have full frame cameras
  10. Yea... the Oculus and Vive are far, far better in terms of reducing nausea, due to the better head tracking, latency and refresh rate (90hz) I've used the Vive for over an hour without any headaches or nausea. Mobile tech will catch up over the next few years.
  11. I am starting to get more and more involved in VR and 360 work and have been running a few tests on Oculus and Samsung Gear.... Really cool tech that I will talk about soon in another post, with regard to VR narrative work. What I wanted to discuss here though is the ability to watch 2D video within the VR theatres in Oculus Cinema.... At first I was sceptical, but it really is like viewing a film in a real theatre (or a theatre on the moon, or a theatre for ants!). The sense of scale is unique and really effective. The way the light from the film changes the theatre just adds to the feeling. I think this will soon be a bone fide way to start testing your movies for theatre release and could be a really simple way to get test audiences for your film. As with all things VR, explaining, showing videos etc just doesn't do it justice.... If you can get hold of a Gear VR or Oculus, be sure to check it out... It is stunning and sure to play a big part in the future of film consumption. I found this video below that gives quite a good glimpse into how it all works... But really, you need to try this out for yourself... Exciting times!
  12. I found the 2K on MX is about as good as 5DII, in terms of resolution.... No amount of post can sharpen it to a reasonable level. The lack of detail, coupled with the poor ISO put me off ever buying one... I have not used Dragon yet... But I would look closely at an FS700/O7Q combo before buying an MX based camera... Better low light, better HFR (4K/120fps, non windowed), better on-board sound, NDs, ProRes and much lighter, even with the Odyssey.
  13. This is what I thought and Dan Chung was clearly thinking too.... I would bet that the raw model will have HD-SDI, but the guy was struggling for the right term to use.
  14. Listen to this at about the 4:40 minute point, he talks about 14 bit raw output via hdmi.... Of course, you would need a raw recorder, which makes it more chunky than the X5R, interesting. non the less:
  15. You should get 30 Lumix G7s, imagine the camera angles then!
  16. Jimmy

    FS5 2.0 released.

Looking forward to seeing the raw output too.... This update is a a great reflection on Sony's way of doing things, well done!
  17. That scarlet kit is barebones.... isn't the raven kit a similar price? You'll need more media and power, possibly evf?
  18. Skin tones on the right are a bit grey ... could be the Sony or the new colour science on the 1dxii
  19. If I were an actor, i think that monstrosity would actually put me off. Amazing that all the REDusers are swooning over it. No wonder Arri still dominate
  20. Hopefully they are waiting for a really popular camera like the 5D iv Not sure there are enough people buying something like the 80D who would go looking for ML
  21. I think the 4K 60p on the 1DXii gives alot of hope for 4K 30p on the 5Div... It is a nice, clear product separator Without c-log though, i'll likely buy neither, unless ML can get something going.
  22. You can't go out of range with a DJI, if you try, it will just go into "return to home" mode (though bad GPS can affect this, i think being in ATTI mode does too, can't remember now). I think the range is about 2km and yea, you get a wireless feed to a monitor. You can get add ons so that you can see distance, height etc on your screen. I think the phantom could potentially kill someone, if it dropped from 100m+ high, but it is unlikely... the bigger danger is from the rotors/blades, even the plastic ones on the Phantom... they are sharp and very fast.
  23. Then I would need a stills camera too. Why can't people grasp that everyone's needs are different and there is no perfect camera for every single job?
