I'll be at NAB, what would you like me to check out?
Jimmy replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
Thanks Jonesy, sounds like just a prototype. Appreciate your time on this though. -

The difference with this one is that they are all synced,.so act more like one camera....price and expected shipping are the obvious questions... But really what I'd like to hear is what you think about the VR experience with this footage, assuming they have a way to test it out... Does it look sharp, is it using noticeable fish eye, how does the 3 cam rig look compared to the 7 cam? Thanks,.jimmy -

Please check this out if you see the 360heros stand, looks sick! http://www.360heros.com/2016/04/360heros-debuts-blackmagic-design-vr-360-video-line/ -
Yawn off Tugela... Take a day off from policing the internet

Interestingly, I just saw this on DVX: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?346121-FS700-4K-RAW-kit $5k for a full shooting kit... Amazing.

TV Dino, the Odyssey 7Q and 7Q+ record s35 4K raw upto 60fps (continuous) and 120fps in 4 second bursts. It can also take the raw signal and convert to ProRes, which also looks great. You need to make sure the Fs700 has been upgraded to allow raw via the HD-SDI, but otherwise it is fairly small and cheap way to get some very high end features. I have seen FS700/O7q combos for $6K or so... I really think it is a better deal than a used Scarlet, but depends on your workflow, image tastes etc. Even just having ND filters is a massive plus, for me... E mount is great... Low light good... Checks alot of boxes
-
I don't remember it being a big problem, though I generally shoot wildlife and nature, where moire and aliasing don't seem to show up as much. The raw output is the entire sensor though, iirc, so it is not binning, therefore should be pretty good.
-
Shoot raw and the colour is quite nice... Not the best, but WAY better than the baked in sony look. Raw to ProRes is good too
-
1DX-II might be worth a look too... 4K/60fps, great colours and amazing low light
-
I know it is a bit of a cliché, but if you are making a feature, could the bulk of the money be better spent elsewhere? Lights, glass, actors, script help, gimbal etc etc Maybe just a BMPC would suffice? (though it sounds like you might want HFR?) If so, FS700/Odyssey 7Q combo is worth a look too... Much more manageable and feature packed than a R1-MX and the image is about equal, imho.

I certainly wouldn't panic buy a Raven in fear of the prices going up... RED have halved prices in the past, based on their competitors actions and this is NAB week... Give it a week and see how the land lies. If RED put up their prices, you will doubtless have a bunch of other stuff to choose from.

Rejoice guys: The XC10 4K Camcorder firmware will be updated to include a new file format MP4 in HD mode (35 Mbps only), improved AF speed, and shutter speed options for flicker reduction. Is that a trend in the ENG/Events market? Everyone wants better value for money.. But pro ENG shooters demand a certain quality and set of features. It seems slow for cinema use, but anyone who has been using 2/3" lenses will be right at home. A quick glance at the dvx forum shows alot of interest.
-
It's strange that people will say "well this lens cost 10% of the price" without seeing the quality or thinking about the usage outside their own needs. Some of the 2/3” servos cost a fortune. I'll never buy or use this, as I don't do ENG, but I can see that it is "cheap" and will be popular.

What will Cinema EOS lineup be after NAB 2016?
Jimmy replied to photographer-at-large's topic in Cameras
By "they" you mean some blogger? I'm not sure what this camera is about, seems bizarre, but usually wise to not jump to conclusions with canon paper specs. Saying the BM beats it on every level is naive at best... -

Must have been cool having a prototype to test -

that sounds more interesting.. but please... Let's not turn this thread into x,y,z about 360 video and what you personally consider is or isn't acceptable. The questions for Jonesey were pretty simple and do not need to extend to price, the benefits of rigs, resolution etc etc.. I just want him to report back anything that he finds cool. We can dissect the details later on. If you have more specific questions for the guy, ask away. -

4K per sensor IS enough, if is well stitched together to provide a real 4K 360 video. I honestly don't know where you are getting mixed up... I asked if Jonesey could look at the 1 camera solutions and report back if the quality of any new launches are good/close to the rigs.. And no... The GoPro Omni is not what I mean by a "1 camera solution"... It is a rig... There are no sync or auto stitch features and GoPro have a real issue with keeping several cameras running at once. Vuze and Orri are 1 camera solutions and I think a bigger manufacturer will launch one soon... Maybe at NAB... If you don't... that is fine... though a little pointless to keep bringing up. -

It's already happening at consumer level for $800... I really don't get the difficulties for a company like BM, Sony, Samsung etc http://vuze.camera/ -

I'm hoping for a 1DC mk II.... Same spec as 1DX mk II, but with 10 bit and log, for an extra $2k or so. ps - Canon just released this little oddity: http://www.newsshooter.com/2016/04/13/canons-me200s-sh-cube-camera-a-c100-mkii-in-your-pocket/ -
Zacuto shrink the EVF - Gratical Eye available soon for $1950

Could be interesting paired up with the BM micro Edit - The outputs + power don't seem ideal for very bare bones Micro use. -

There is more to video than just narrative. VR is going to be way bigger than 3D, imho... Anyone who has tried it recently will know that it is starting to become very interesting for many, many fields. I expect some truly amazing horror films in VR. The cardboard VR "Incidious" game creeped me out more than any film for a long time, even with sub SD quality. The feeling of something being just behind you is 100X as powerful as any 2D or 3D film
