  1. and that is what I want Jonesy to report on!!!! If something new comes out that is $60k, with a beautiful image, then I want to hear about it and weigh up the price and specs myself... I can rent if I cannot afford to buy. If you look back to my original post... I didn't say anything about budget. Just quality.
  2. PS - It is more than feasible for a company like BM to see the surge in demand for 360 video and create a fully integrated 1 camera, multi sensor system... For example, if you build a rig with 6 micros... it is a bit cumbersome... If BM themselves did it, there could be one central SD area rather than 6... Maybe 2 larger power units rather than 6... Possibly even one super fast processor instead of 6. With a system built from the ground up for 360 video, you could create space for better cooling, better sync, realtime stitching etc. So a clever company could make a 1 camera system that works like a 6 camera system... but fully integrated and thought out.... Hell, they might even save money on the overall cost. This is what I expect to see at NAB, if not this year.. then next.
  3. I'd prefer to concentrate on being creative rather than mess with wires, syncing and stitching. I'm sure I'm not alone , which is why I want to hear what is at NAB. I'm also interested in rigs too, but why limit the information that Jonesy can gather? If he says "the 1 camera solutions are dreadful" then that is still great info... If he says "they are good but expensive" that is still great info
  4. Probably... But the 1 camera system can include several sensors/lenses Speaking of which, please check the lytro area... Any specifics on their VR camera would be great. Size, price, how they are powering it, how they are storing data in the field.
  5. Thanks for doing this... If you do check out the 360 video stuff, I'd like to know: Which experience looks best overall, with VR headset? Which had the highest resolution detail? Are there any 1 camera solutions that look close to the quality of the multicam rigs?
  6. Their VR cam looks very expensive too... They seem to be getting into very highend, very niche markets. I'm trying to get a prototype model for a VR project I am working on, but fear it will be too pricey and data heavy.
  7. 755 RAW Megapixels Up to 300 fps Up to 16 stops of Dynamic Range Integrated High Res Active Scanning Systems
  8. There is also difference in the raw file itself... Isn't the raw in the A7s something really weird like lossy 11 bit raw? edit - https://photographylife.com/sony-will-finally-fix-the-lossy-raw-issue
  9. I love the colours in raw. It is the only reason I still have the A7s
  10. I was a colour grader in London for 4 years... I'm not here trolling, I know what i'm talking about. You can fix baked in white balance, you can even get it looking good.... but you will lose something doing so. That is what I said right from the start... There is no perfect solution, no matter what software you use.
  11. This is what I am using - https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicvideoassist I find it really nice to work with... It is not uncompressed, but the quality is great... But I would wait for NAB and see what comes out.
  12. who lit the fuse on your tampon? That's twice now you've replied to a post of mine with complete assholery I guess you are the first person in colour grade history that can completely CC bad white balance from a baked image... High five
  13. Do you mean uncompressed? The 80D does not output raw
  14. Was talking to jonesy... you know... The guy going to nab and asked what people want to hear about
  15. Please report back on any smallish , high quality 360 cameras, if you see any... Any budget, just no fisheye 4:2:0 rubbish
  16. Didn't you just buy a XC10? I think you bad mouth Canon to push the prices down so you can buy them on the cheap I'd place money on you owning a 1D-X II within the year!
  17. You can't fully correct bad white balance. If it has a red/blue/green cast, you might dial back that colour to correct any white in the scene, but completely screw up the skintones, scenery etc. It's a major, major issue... AWB, WB settings, manually dialing in temps... It is so hit and miss and i'm certain that is the cause of all of this. The only time I find the camera (A7s) tends to get it right is shooting at night... Maybe the engineers tailored the WB for the ultra low light shooting?
  18. I wouldn't drop any cash on a camera until after NAB... Even if you can't wait for the announced camera to ship, you might find price drops on the older cam you want. As things stand, I'd agree with the suggestion of the 1DX II... Will be a low light beast too and seems quite future proof. I'd also think about an fs700/O7Q combo... The transition from the fs100 will be easy and it has alot of power
  19. The issue with Sony video, IMO, is a shifting WB error. Sometimes a magenta cast, sometimes blue, sometimes green. This happens in AWB or custom.. It's a mess. Raw obviously doesn't have this issue
  20. Sony sensor in raw has great colour... I love the stills on my a7s... Skintones are beautiful. I hate the video with a passion
  21. The incentive is that there is a market out their (high end fashion, for instance) for stills and video from one shooter... For now, someone who is booked onto one of those gigs might have been desperate to use a Hassy... But had to opt for a Canon or Nikon, not due to budget, but to the fact that they could do stills and video... Now, they have the option to go Hassy. So they are competition for Canon and Nikon again. Just guess work, of course.
  22. Haha.... Who buys a camera based on the DR at such a crazy ISO... Buy some lights! 90% of us will shoot between 100-3200 and it generally looks great on 5D3, so if the next generation has a new sensor, it would look stunning
  23. An interesting point with this announcement..... Canon and Nikon might respond to this and finally bring raw vidro shooting to DSLR They don't give a shit about Sony, lumix etc... But when other big hitting still cameras make a move, they might follow
  24. It's been confirmed that the video uses the full width of the sensor... No crop
  25. Would be great if you could upload some footage, if you get a chance.
