The new Leica camera might help push Canon towards good 4K in DSLR.... I don't know many pro still shooters that would trade a Canon for a Sony, but I know plenty that would trade for a Leica. If the still shooters using the new Leica start pulling stills from the 4K video, then the industry will change again... I don't think there has yet been a bone fide camera where pro still shooters are using the video mode as a still tool (RED is too bulky and flawed for 99%).... Maybe the Leica is that camera to bring the lightbulb moment and start things off.

Canon react when threatened... I don't think they feel hugely threatened by Sony, in the still market.

Can anyone confirm or mythbust that the c300 II can do 4k/60fps raw via the Odyssey 7Q+?

If you are green screening... You don't need much dynamic range... What extra creativity does s-log bring?

Have Convergent released a firmware for the O7Q+ to get 4K/60fps raw out of the C300 II yet? Would be great to see that.

Does this not make you ask yourself some questions about why they are still top of the stills game?

Is it because their DR holds well over the entire ISO range, where the Sony (Nikon) chips have a great native DR, then crash and burn away from that native ISO.

I'm no tech head.... But it seems Canon are doing something right, with stills at least.

If you don't mind a biggish rig, FS700 and OQ7 is certainly one of the best bangs for buck right now,

Use the extra cash to get an odyysey q7... 4k, raw (or raw to prores) at 60fps ... 120fps in burst mode.

Then you have every angle covered

It's nice enough...Nothing that couldn't be done with a Phantom and HD-3D gimbal.... The issue is the camera (fisheye, arrgggh!)... Hopefully they follow DJI and bring out a tiny m43 camera. The fact that they own cineform raw makes my special area tingle at the thought.

Yea, i think Ursa's colour will be 2nd only to the Canon's (with raw output).. Who knows, maybe even same/better... Hopefully we see some footage in the coming month.

Looks great.... Think the warm colours need to be more saturated to get the Super8 feel though (and cold colours desaturated).

Yea, I'm at a point where I just completely dislike Sony colour now and hate grading it.... Some will say that you can get the colours great with the right amount of grading on any footage, I simply don't buy it (of course, sometimes Sony footage looks amazing, but sometimes isn't enough)... I have the luxury of time, I consider myself a good colourist... Yet Sony footage just leaves me cold when shooting outdoors. Even with the raw files from the FS700, it was still a little off.

If Ursa Mini were just a little smaller and lighter, with NDs... It would be a no brainer. Seems that no matter how my camera budget rises, compromises are always there! (I think the C500 mk II might be the first compromise free camera, for my shooting, if it has HFR and internal raw).

They might be the very people that are completely unfazed. Like I said, quarterlies are as good as meaningless to anyone outside the company. Only those inside will know if those profit decreases are from a large overhead (building a new factory, for instance)... Or something more concerning.

Have just been having a similar discussion with my business partner... BM 4.6k, RED Raven or C300 mk II..... Such a difficult choice. Colour and DR are top of the want list.

I have been using the BMPCC alot this week and have fallen in love with their image again.

Quarterlies mean next to nothing unless you know every move Canon is making.

A company like this could spend $x million to build a new sensor factory and write off profits for that quarterly, safe in the knowledge that that factory will show profits down the line.

It is a sensor for a mobile phone, no doubt very small.

What is interesting is the lens doesn't look to be anything top end, looks a bit like a CCTV lens.... Yet the image still has a richness in the contrast. Very filmic.

Some strange colours occasionally, but to be expected at this stage.... Amazing to think that this tech could soon be in mobile phones, let alone film cameras!

Interesting move by RED... Shame I had to go onto that forum, need to wash the red frenzy from my eyes.

SSD and cloud, for me. Pay for a proper cloud service that backs up across multiple locations and has backup even if someone accidental deletes it. Nothing digital is failsafe, but cloud storage is pretty damn close.

You will also need an external recorder to access the 10bit, so that is a bit skewed. May as well throw the RED Raven in the mix too.

Lack of OLPF probably kills this for serious video work... Still not sure why no one is willing to put 10bit internal in their flagship though... Surely GH5 has to break this ground.

Personally, I just don't like Sony colours unless I am shooting something intentionally cold... I have had the A7s and Fs700 (raw) and also used the FS7... I just don't feel it, especially after using 5DIII (raw), blackmagic and RED. It is all down to taste though (and how long you wanna spend grading), but I will not be buying Sony again unless something is drastically improved.
