Is the 1DC in the equation? Maybe grab a 2nd hand one, then you can offer 4K, but with a look and feel that matches your current work.

Why the DJI Osmo is actually a 4K raw Micro Four Thirds camera
Jimmy replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
DJI are really on the up.... If they can just find a middle ground between low mbps H264 and uncompressed raw, they will be a major force. -
Yea, hardly ideal for pixel peeping, and that is the C500, not the C300 mk II.... and Shane says he preferred the Canon skintones anyway. Watch the actual footage, both look really good.
-
There is a similar sort of tone with topics about Canon too... Some companies seem to split people down the middle. I couldn't care less about the brand, personally... I've owner or rented them all ,more or less... And all have pros and cons
-
I don't see much hate for RED here, just people pointing the pros and cons out. C300 II weight is 1.8kg/4Llbs
-
Go for it! If you don't like it, i'll buy it off you for €650!

there is nothing strictly wrong with different shutter speeds/ shutter angles... It is an aesthetic choice (for instance alot of Saving Private Ryan has a fast shutter, 45 deg. i think.. which looks good with alot of fast action motion). Certain shots, like waterfalls, can sometimes look nice with a 360 deg angle.
-
And if you can pull an extra stop from the shadows, you would just slightly under expose to protect your highlights, which seems to be the case with the C300II
-
It is not a good test. Creating a fair and technically perfect DR test is a nightmare. Anyone using the above test or the Cinema5D test to categorically praise/bash the C300II clearly has bias issues.
-
This is what keeps drawing me towards the C300 II, even though it only ticks certain spec boxes. 4K/24p with a great image will go a long, long way. This might just be enough to sway me away from the all singing, all dancing cameras that are heavy, ergonomically awkward and less "ready".
-
4K/60p makes me think it is someone's wishlist rather than anything concrete.
-
Did you see the side by sides? Not sure how this could be considered blown out really. Seems to me that the C300II holds slightly more in the shadows, whereas the Alexa holds slightly more in the highlights...
-
C300 II is clearly holding alot of info in the shadows. Alexa, Dragon, Varicam and C300II look amazing to me.

I wonder how many Ravens Cinema5D will get in the post from RED?... the timing was immaculate
-
It's a spambot... A captcha will fix it
-
I think what Nathan was getting at is that when shooting with Mini in ProRes, the sensor crops to UHD, which means the sensor size becomes much closer to the Raven. It's a fair comment. What is perhaps less fair is the assumption that "most users wont shoot raw". At 4:1 compression, it becomes an option, for sure. (REDCode is only saving 40% space, at 4:1... and is actually 0.6K smaller)
-
the base I/O takes v-lock You don't have to have red batteries
-
How "straight out of the box" is that $10k package? From what I can tell, you just would need a V-lock battery and a lens (to shoot an image)... am I right or are there some other components needed?
-
Having to go to the REDuser forum for info makes me cry! So many posts along the lines of "C300 mk II D.O.A" and "I would hate to be Sony/Blackmagic/Canon now" ad nauseum. Whatever you may think of prosumer cams like the C300 and FS7, you can shoot all day on a couple of batteries and some cheap(er) media. I like REDs cameras, but I really detest that place.
-
To be fair, it was 4K4All It was a daft hashtag though, $10k is not "for all" ... Not sure if they ever explained themselves on that one... Maybe "for all terrain" or some nonsense. The way I see it, with RED..... Take the specs with a pinch of salt... Don't get too carried away with the marketing or the crazy forum... Turn your eyes away from the military designs... You are then just left with a great camera.
-
You have to use their SSDs. I might be wrong, but I think you also need to have a module for HDMI, so although you can use 3rd party monitors, you will need the module.
-
Take that with a pinch of salt. It does have very good DR though, i'd put it in the 14 stops area.
-
I'm very torn on it.... I came pretty close to pre-ordering, but will wait for the dust to settle. There are ALOT of plus points (2K/60p ProRes is a great addition), but two pretty major negatives too: The fixed Canon mount is just a strange, strange choice, especially with a smaller sensor. I really don't get that decision at all. The 13:1 compression at 4K/120fps is gonna see the image fall apart a bit.
-
It is a bit sad that my Facebook feed is full of groups for cameras like the NX1 and A7s and are now saying with concrete authority that the C300 II only has 12.5 stops of DR, completely ignoring any tests that show otherwise, just to try and make themselves feel better about their cheaper cameras (I own both, great cameras, but i'm not gonna try and convince myself that they are now somehow better because of this C300 II review!). Why are so few people able to use logic and balance when it comes to tech? If the next 10 reviews also point to 12.5 stops, then there is cause for concern.. But until then, just add this review to the various other reviews to make any decision.
