  1. I'm gonna post here as Andrew closed the Philip bloom thread.... My post was ironic, due to our debate about the Clarkson stuff... You must see the irony, surely? Clarkson would have made a similar quip ;-) And yes... Assault is terrible thing and, if found guilty by none social media means, his respect will evaporate
  2. I thought the stance on this blog was that creatives could abuse people?
  3. They did with REDraw though. Back scratching goes along way.
  4. Niche just means specialised.... For a capture/edit codec, it is very much specialised .... As a deliverable, it is slowly growing, but not yet mainstream.
  5. I have tested every known convertor.... They are ok, but they introduce gamma changes that concern me. Not Adobe's fault, this is still a niche codec and probably requires untold hours of coding to perfect. Samsung really should add H264 support while this is sorted out (or scratch Adobe's back, like i'm sure RED did to get REDcode support).
  6. Frustrating news.... Canon's new codec is supported, but still no love for H265. Samsung really need to scratch Adobe's back or allow another codec via firmware.
  7. Here's the thing though John... I was invested in Canon, both camera and glass.... Then Sony bought out the FS700 and it ticked more of my boxes, so I sold up and moved on. I have since moved on yet again.... I wont cry that Canon or Sony didn;t constantly meet my ever changing needs... I just move to whoever does, say in the knowledge that my needs are not the same as the next man. Canon glass fits everything, so I don't see the issue with moving to another platform. Then if Canon do make your dream camera, move back. and when I said "These things" I meant canon having an attempt at a niche market... why knock it, choice is great.
  8. Mitch Gross (Convergent Design) just wrote this on the DVXuser thread: "The C300 Mark 2 will output RAW data in 4K and UHD up to 60p."
  9. You realise the Alexa has dual readout to get their DR too, right?
  10. after spending an hour painstakingly cleaning my A7s sensor... A fixed lens looks very appealing, right now! Shame it wasn't f2.8 through the range. This will be a dream on a copter/gimbal though... If the AF and stabilisation are up to scratch, it could be perfect. Would double as a nice little vacation camera too.
  11. What, are you saying Canon didn't in anyway, shape or form, say they are making a GH4 competitor? I'm not invested in Canon in anyway, so I am not disappointed in them. I used to have a 5D3 and loved it, even better with the ML raw. If they make a camera that brings me back, good on them. I will be testing the C300 II and XC10, for sure.
  12. Yep, some cameras just seem to have that added bit of magic to the IQ. That is why I'm not overly keen on comparing paper specs. For some, that little bit of magic could be worth far more than 4K 60fps.
  13. Could just as easily say "Half the price of an Alexa Mini, with proper 4K" The price tag will only become comparable to FS7, Alexa and whatever else once the IQ is revealed. IQ is the gold dust.
  14. that is why canon is marketing this camera as a "GH4 competitor" -------------------- Are they? Can you point me to this marketing, I just thought that was the title of this article, not a real thing?
  15. Buy an adapter for a GH4 then.
  16. shame there are no NDs, unless I am missing them?
  17. Has in built stabilisation and AF. Could be quite interesting on gimbals and drones. Clearly a niche product. Not sure why people knock these things so much.... At least they try new things.
  18. If, and it is still a big IF, the image quality matches the brochure marketing, or comes even close, then this is a HUGE release. The spec chasers will point to the FS7 and cry and about the C300 II only having 1080p slow motion and being too expensive.... But perhaps they should be looking in the direction of ARRI and RED, not Sony. This new sensor could be something very stunning. $15k or so for an image that could potentially compete with the Alexa. That would be staggering. I also like that it has raw out, and it holds optimal DR at ISO800 and above (again, according to the brochure). The AF and ergonomics are also well known. I am excited to see the image.
  19. I would not put it past Samsung to do that... They move quickly when they see a niche to enter. Worst case scenario though, you sell your NX1 at a loss and buy the LX.
  20. I'd also like to see more accessible global shutter cams.
  21. Ahh yea, I am very much hoping for that too. Really feel like we are losing something in the transcode
  22. Let's step away from the 16 stops, 12800iso $3k cameras for a while and think about what you realistically expect and would like to see at NAB 2015? Top of my list is probably a Ninja Star 2 that can record 4K ProRes. I think it is quite likely and will make the current/next generation of 4K HDMI cams really sing, without the need for a large monitor/recorder, which is not always ideal for certain shooting types. I would also like to see Olympus style image stabilisation in one of the larger cameras (C300 mkII type). What is on your reasonable wishlist?

    Nikon 1 J5

Even Charlie Chaplin's early worked managed 16fps
  24. It's a good one.... I like Canon's colours and size, but the conversation ends there, with regard to the elite cameras. (Though I was shocked by Dragon's lack of low light, dreadful)
