Thanks! Standard profile with contrast -2, Sharpness -4 and Noise Reduction -3. No blur but added Impulz film grain which softens the image a bit.

Random clips shot with GH5 and Olympus 25/1.2 in standard profile.

Mitakon 25/0.95 - Fast, small, cheap. Works great on the GH5 if you don't mind it's all manual.

Agree to disagree about the GH5 autofocus then But in the end, what do i know? I take others words for it since i don't use it myself. Panasonic released a statement saying they're working on improving the autofocus so i might give it a go in the future.
-
Yes, if not very similar.
-
Except when there's no other way than autofocus on a piad gig. Other than that, agreed

"tap to focus workaround" and "focus pulling feature" is not the same as reliable CAF. I'm not saying touchscreen autofocus is a bad thing, but for every shot every time? Come on man... What about gimbal and steadicam shots, are you going to press the screen a few times every second? We have different views on what would be acceptable performance on a paid gig, that's all.

Yes, the LUT monitoring is definitely on. Pure V-Log looks very flat as it should. Panasonics built in LUT looks a bit washed out, my custom lut looks a bit more contrasty but no where near what i get when i apply the same custom LUT to V-Log footage in premiere/resolve. That's what i'm having trouble grasping, why my LUT doesn't give the same look on the GH5 display/evf as it does in Premiere/Resolve. On the exact same footage.

Why wouldn't i just rent a camera with good AF if i need a camera with good AF?

There's only so much fiddling with settings can achieve if the tech isn't quite there in the first place. There's a ton of videos and posts where people explore the autofucus settings of the GH5 and everyone pretty much comes to the same conclusion. Sure, there's a sweetspot for AF usage but at that sweetspot the autofocus is still no way near the competition. I really like the GH5 but if i ever needed good reliable AF on a paid job where retakes might not be possible i would leave the GH5 at home.

Since i haven't shot with Panasonic V-Log before i might just be unfamiliar to how it's supposed to work. You guys are probably right. With that said, i won't give up my investigation in this:)

There's something else going on rather than better dynamic range. One would think that a lut would give the same results on the monitor as it gives in premire/resolve. Tried the EVF and same issue there. Will investigate this further and update the thread with my findings.

People had way to high expectations about this camera, not only because the hype Panasonic started but because of rumor sites and potential buyers upping the hype. 10bit 422 is great but it's not some magical feature that will make everything you shoot look like Alexa footage. Messing up on 10 bit will hurt almost as much as messing up on 8 bit. Future 400 Mbps update not considered. Judging the camera for what it is, my first impressions are great. Im sure it's going to be a real workhorse just like the GH4 is. Edit. Forgot to mention something about the autofocus. Personally I don't use it but sure, it would have been nice to have. If you need world class leading autofocus during video recording then look elsewhere. Panasonic might fix it with firmware, or not.

Thank you for the suggestion but i have no problem with the contrast of the LCD. If i'm taking photos or using other profiles than V-LOG with LUT monitoring the contrast and brightness of the LCD is great.

So first impressions of the GH5 are great but there's one thing that bugs me about V-LOG L shooting and it's the LUT monitoring. All the LUTs I've tried gives me this washed out image on the GH5 screen, even the one that's built in. I've even tried making my own and while they work great when applied to the footage in premiere, they give me that washed out look on the GH5 screen. I've talked about this with a friend that's experiencing the exact same problem. Or am i getting this totally wrong? Isn't a Log to 709 LUT supposed to give me a the same look on the GH5 monitor as it would give me applying it in Premiere?

Any word on support being added for native editing with 10bit files in Premiere? I get aobut 0.01 fps with my 7700K editing machine

Hasn't this been the case of every camera release? People get their hopes up when it's announced -> people get disappointed when they see pre production samples by a tiny group of people -> People get excited once again when the masses get the hold of the camera. I'm sure you can get your GH4 footage to look non organic, over sharpened and over processed.

Thanks to all of you for some great suggestions! Should have mentioned this in the beginning but there's a project coming up where nothing else than image really matters, hence the ignore rest comment. Controlled environment, good lighting, everything is stationary except those in front of the camera. 1-3 minute shoot, edit, send to client, repeat.
-
Will probably end up buying the GH5 but still, would be nice to know your thoughts on this. If we ignore size, audio, release date, ergonomics, mount, sensor size and everything except the image coming out of the camera. What, ready to shoot minus lens, camera for around $3000 (new or used) will give the best image according to you?

When even the manufacturers video is filled with post stabilization artifacts i get a bit suspicious about it's performance. I wouldn't get the spider rig.

What's your budget? Look for a laptop with a quad core processor like the new i7-7700HQ. Dell XPS15, Razer Blade, Macbook Pro 15. There's plenty to choose from but be prepared to open your wallet if you want both portable and powerful.

Not my video, found it on YouTube and thought I'd share it.
