  1. Thank you. I would recommend doing as many tests as possible. Kidzrevil has been doing a ton of tests with different profiles, he seems to be making a lot of progress in finding the correct profile for each situation. C-LOG is really really nice in my opinion, but probably not ideal for lowlight. You need to work with seeing how much you can push it. If you keep the shadows lit enough, you can really avoid macro blocking and noise. The camera is temperamental. Does weird things sometimes. You really need to work with the strengths and learn to avoid exploiting the weaknesses. My biggest advice would be to not shoot over F11. Try to between 2.8 and 8, favor the shallower more open apertures when possible.
  2. I manually exposed. I pretty much always used the ND, ISO 500, tried to between f2.8 and f8. The stuff shot at F11, like I said, is pretty much unusable. Something looks weird at that f stop. All C-LOG. These are excellent.
  3. How bad are we talking? I've seen tons of interviews shot with this camera. A close proximity boom with a nice mic and a LAV has to be workable. Interesting. The C300ii has pretty much unlimited DR, but the noise is a lot worse. The F3 is actually really really good as well, but not 4K, colors probably aren't as nice in mixed lighting, either. Edit: Those are really nice looking frames. So full of color. The Fs7 can't touch that...
  4. When you say "speed of the camera," that's where it becomes confusing. I think saying a slow sensor or fast sensor makes sense, since that's directly comparable to a film stock.
  5. Here is a link to the LUT I am using. You can download the whole pack if you want as well. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ljz17ji7k0q4kvm/AABZGeJdt2xz2Q94rQMvuhd4a?dl=0 I attached a few images that show what the LUT is doing. It's working similarly to those film looks you use. It compresses the highlights and will really create nice roll off for blown out footage. This is actually black magic pocket footage, but it's the only thing I have on this laptop to work with. The LUT isn't too aggressive, it may work with wide dr footage as well. Make sure you sharpen 10-15 in premiere as well. I appreciate that. Honestly, I think I haven't come to terms with the fact that a camera that is so easy to use and compact can actually produce high quality footage.
  6. Good color is subjective, but the Canon seems like it gives the most solid base. You could get that Sony desaturated look if you wanted. GH4 seems like an odd duck, color seems good enough but have never heard anyone say they prefer it to the Canon.
  7. Yeah, C-LOG. I'm basically just exposing based on the meter, maybe pushing it a stop but not really. I thought for sure the shot at :10 would have macro blocking and noise but it's pretty clean. The image maybe looks thinner than if you shot with EOS Standard, but maybe that's how I am processing the image.
  8. GH5 is not currently available, and you're talking about traveling around with twice as much gear. It all depends on what you're needs are. There's a lot to be said for one hybrid camera that just works, really really well. You can tell the difference between good color and bad color, even on tiny displays, (mobile phone.) Any of the canon cameras just make work flow easier.
  9. Nice, looks cool. You should try gelling it too.
  10. Are you using an on camera light? Looks really rad.
  11. Thanks. Trying to add some character to the footage. Feels kinda stock footage with the deep depth of field without some sort of movement.
  12. Ran off some more footage yesterday morning. Added grain to a few shots. Really love the color and image stabilizer, wish it could get more shallow. The lens really does seem to do best between F2.8 and F8.
  13. This has better color than any non cine alta sony camera.
  14. Yeah, but you could also just get a C100mki and run audio into that and use the XC10 for second camera. I like the XC10, don't get me wrong, but a 50mm on a c100 is a really nice look. There's a lot of options in that price range.
  15. Others might disagree, but I honestly don't think the image is sharp enough for too much 4k punching. Kind of brittle or something. I'm sure me or someone on the forum could provide you with some test shots if you would like to try it out. The c100 with a 50mm would probably look better. What about the original C100 and the XC10 for a b cam? I'll say as well that the stabilizer is insane. Really nice.
  16. Thanks for the kind words guys. This thread has been a great resource for me. This was all shot 305mb/24p. If you have a 4k monitor, you should be able to play it at 4k. All base ISO of 500. I tried to shoot between f4-f8 but wasnt always possible since I didn't pack the variable nd. There were some clips shot at f11 that were useless in my opinion. Too sharp, with zero depth to the image. Some other stuff at that bridge I wanted to cut in but it didn't look right. It's almost like the bit rate isn't high enough to render all of that detail with everything in focus, probably why shallow stuff tends to look better. I have the c300ii LUT pack and the log-to-rec709 works well in a lot of situations. I can host it on one drive if you want to give it a shot. It does some nice stuff with the highlights and color. @kidzrevil I want to mess around with some of those filters you're using.
  17. Little cut I made from some footage over the weekend. Camera is surprisingly good. My biggest critique is still the lack of heavier ND, because anything shot at F11 in the sun is pretty much unusable in my opinion. The camera looks good shallow. Im happy that you can get little quick zooms without flicker, reminds of shooting super 8. All shot C-LOG except the first shot of the rain on the trees and the last clip, which is EOS standard I think. The image stabilizer is definitely really good. The image reminds me more of the C100 than the C300ii. I needed a camera that I could throw on a tripod for double angles and get quick coverage when a larger camera cannot be used. This seems to check those boxes. C-LOG looks like it can be temperamental, but much better than log profiles on most DSLRs.
  18. Was messing around with C-LOG around the house. Has anyone ran into this artifact? Lens is zoomed all the way in with C-LOG at iso 500 I think. I haven't seen this on any other footage.
  19. My xc10 came in the mail yesterday. This camera has a really nice image and is really fun to shoot with. The image stabilizer seems to work very well, I also dig the touch screen, works fine in bright light as well. The biggest negative for me would be the lack of ND filters. It's impossible to properly expose 24p in bright sunlight when shooting 1/48. A lot of positives, currently on a 3 day trip in oregon. I'll post some stuff when I get back. Thanks everyone contributing to this topic, been a nice resource. Im assuming zebras at 75 is the norm? Any other tips/tricks I should know about?
  20. Agreed. I will use 2 or 3 light panels through a 5/1. A very easy but very portable and effective setup. LEDs have to be diffused or bounced in my experience. Do you own the 5600k or the color changing? The high output is interesting, but so is the color temp change.
  21. Another cool one. Vx1000 and Alexa. The edit is really excellent.
  22. The Sony Vx1000 is still extremely popular in the skate community. The 4:3 aspect fisheye is wider and the model built for that is a better than any other camera ever. Really nice audio and the color has a filmy kind of highlight roll. Nice looking warm colors. Here's a piece I did, mixed with S8 and 16mm.
  23. Just picked up a nice kit on ebay for 1600 shipped. Pelican case, 128gb Lexar card, 64gb card, reader. There are tons of deals, so don't buy one new if anyone is thinking of purchasing one.
  24. Rad. Please share your results! I'm grabbing one of these once a few checks come in.
