  1. RAW is closer to the telecine process than a push pull. You can easily can be 4/5 stops over and still recover highlights with 16mm. You meter correctly and your footage will always look nice. What are you talking about with highlight metering? Zebras will do that for sure and exposing for highlights is great for wides but you can't always do that.
  2. That's not a real "solution." Sony still struggles so hard in mixed lighting. The canon looks amazing every time.
  3. Exactly. I can sell my 5D3 because there is a finally a camera that completely replaces it. You can still get close to 2k for a used 5D3.
  4. Can't you just install a technicolor profile? Neutral with the contrast down will provide a really, really nice image...
  5. I haven't talked to anyone who couldn't get into it. The story is just unbelievable. I haven't seen Cartel land, but this sounds like it has a lot of intense visuals, etc, Making a Murderer is pure story. There have also been tons of docs on drug cartels, not so many on police corruption. That is a pretty scary road to go down... Haha, could you imagine if there was 60fps slow motion footage of people's backs the whole time. I love the way it looks. It looks raw and real. The cameras they used were efficient and allowed them to capture the story perfectly. One thing to mention is that the editing and the audio are both done really really well. The fact that someone can hold my attention for 10 hours is incredible.
  6. That Skin tone ^^ This skin tone... Sony?
  7. Exactly… This looks like the same film convert pocket footage I have been seeing for the past two years... The retailer I talked to said they heard they are getting the 4.6k URSA sensors soon, but no word on these cameras or the 4.6k Ursa Mini… Doesn't sound like it is happening in january. Funny, in the comments he said he didn't need an IR filter… Maybe she changed into a black shirt later on in the day.
  8. This.. ^ You can get such amazing color with an IR cut filter. It really makes the imagine just that much nicer. I wish there was a moire/IR cut internally...
  9. It's just bad luck at this point. Here is Rian Johnson on film, director of Starwars Episode VIII. I assume his decision will over throw Yedlin's in that respect. "I mean for me, I’ve shot film, I’ll hopefully shoot the next one on film, because I just feel that film is still the highest-quality capturing format that we have, and it’s just the best looking. I tend to bristle a little bit when film gets put in the realm of nostalgia, where that ends up being assigned as its main merit."
  10. Remember what happened to the last Star Wars film shot on digital. Yikes.
  11. I think people who say that have never shot S8 and had it properly scanned… A huge factor is the awesome par focal lens and the frame shutter. I love it when people play up the whip pans, soft focus, etc. This seriously has a home movie feel that would be hard to replicate something else. They definitely do 4k scans now that would be better than this, but the content is cool.
  12. On the topic of Canon color… This is beautiful. Shot with the 5D3. Also professionally graded, I believe NR was applied. The canon greens are so nice, the skin tones in a practically lit interview looks so nice as well. A sony FS7 etc would take forever to get close to this. Going out and shooting test footage, the c100mkii probably won't wow you, but when you're paid to shoot all day and get coverage, the camera is just amazing to work with. Those two pieces linked above look amazing. The highlight handling on the canon is so great.
  13. Have you ever shot on it? It's a lot of fun. Has a place.
  14. Hands down the best deal out there. The huge 7Q is great for interviews etc... I would say it is also the cheapest, future proof camera available. It can do 120 RAW/4K... I wouldn't say the piece above looks particularly nice. There are some pretty poor looking colors in spots. This is one of the better pieces I have seen with the FS700/7Q. Shoot RAW and learn how to color correct... You get much more than the FS5 for much less of a price.
  15. Shot on super 8 and seriously beautiful. Slow motion, highlight roll off, color. It's all there folks.
  16. I think he was talking about pure image quality... And yeah, the FS700 without the 7Q doesn't even come close to the 5D Raw. The FS700/7Q combo is pretty rad though. There are tons of awesome pieces done with that setup. The 5D3 Raw is just incredible. The image looks so nice and balanced with hardly any effort spent in post.
  17. Your bookshelf doesn't look any different in 240 I want to love Sony. I have been shooting 5D3 raw for a personal project, FS700/7Q for work. High frame rates are great, wish the FS700 could shoot 24/30 like the 5D3 Raw does.
  18. This is a pretty good example of what happens in the real world. 6 years later...
  19. You did a nice job matching. I would like to see how you do in different scenarios.
  20. This piece is 3 years old and shot on a 5DMKii and looks much better. Canon color...
