  1. Confused about some of the specs listed. I actually don't even see the 240fps specs listed on the BH site. It doesn't list the 10 bit recording in the recording format section, but it does in the description below. The PXW-FS5 records to XAVC-L QFHD 8-bit 420 (up to 30fps) and HD 10-bit 422 (up to 60fps) internally. The XAVC Long allows you to encode from HD to UHD using Intra-Frame or Long GoP compression with 10-bit 422 for HD and the choice of 10-bit 422 or 8-bit 420 for UHD. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1185424-REG/sony_pxw_fs5_xdcam_super_35.html
  2. Wish this camera did 30p. I need it here and there. :/
  3. A really good example of nice looking Sony footage. My only complaint would be the grading on the still photos. The extreme blue highlights especially.
  4. I'm interested if it is possible to record with a baked in LUT to an external recorder. Could you apply a downstream LUT and record the video stream with the applied contrast? Setup would be, BMPCC - Small HD 501 - Atomos/Black Magic Video Assist http://www.smallhd.com/community/latest-firmware-update-for-the-smallhd-500-series-monitor-sidefinder
  5. Thanks Andrew! Can anyone comment on the 60p mode? The 48fps I can get out of the 5D3ML is actually really nice... Also, is there a 30p mode in APS-H mode? Occasionally I have to shoot 30p for jobs.
  6. I'm thinking about buying one. I absolutely love the 5D3 raw. The quality is excellent. How is the 1080p footage 24p? Does it sample from the 4K stream?
  7. Don't get me wrong I love the GH4 for a lot of reasons, but I sold mine and bought a mk3. The RAW recording is amazing, and 720p 60p looks really really nice when you shoot raw. One could argue that noise removal/coloring/web compression matter just as much, if not more than the camera specs these days. I'm having fun with the mk3, work flow is a pain but shooting with that camera is definitely not.
  8. This is my experience with the fs700. When you color correct 5D3 footage, it is even better. The untouched image is better than fs700 in pretty much ever situation as well.
  9. Seriously sharp looking footage.
  10. These are both great, but these are both also freeform edits, and very stylized… What I find impressive with the canon cameras, is the ability to very easy produce a very neutral and well balanced image with little effort. We all know you can get nice results from any camera, but the Sony cameras are just more difficult to work with. I have worked with the Fs700 quite a bit, and that camera is a real love hate. The high speed footage is amazing, but the colors and highlight clipping that happens is very frustrating.
  11. I can't stand Philip's color grading. It looks like instagram.
  12. I have used the SmallHD 502. I would definitely recommend the 501, since the only drawback of the 502 was the price.
  13. They should focus on color.
  14. I have a client that will be shooting additional b-roll at an event overseas. They are requesting a few cameras that are, "around gopro prices." Any ideas on a camera that would have a similar ease of use and quality to that of an iphone 6 or DSLR? I want something easy to use with an in body stabilizer. Any ideas?
  15. That still is a prime example of how hard it is to get nice looking color with a Sony.
  16. This really comes to mind when I think of the C100 vs A7S/5D raw etc. The canon c100 is a workhorse and looks beautiful with little to no post work.
  17. Nice man! Looks really good. I own a 26mm f1.1 that I use with my bolex and the image is insanely sharp on my pocket camera… It beats the sigma 18-35 by a mile. I'm not sure what magic happens in that glass but it's amazing. It also goes for 1200 used on ebay, so there's definitely a price to quality ratio. There is a lot of potential with that s16 glass.
  18. I agree that for an all around camera, the GH4 is better, but well shot pocket camera footage still blows away the GH4 footage. I was on the fence for a while, but glad I never sold that camera. I just can't get over how good well shot pocket footage looks. Did you own the speed booster, sigma 18-35? Edit: I remember you saying you bought a c100mk2. I would prefer a mk1 or mk2 over the gh4 for reliable commercial use.
  19. Pocket footage looks better than GH4K footage on vimeo... Good 1080 is much better than low quality 4k.
  20. Yeah, but twixtor/the amount of time you will spend with processing will end up costing you a lot more than 400 bucks. I can't agree with any of the comments saying twixtor is a great alternative to 60p. Believe me, I know what twixtor is and use it regularly. 60p is just a lot better.
  21. The biggest drawback for me was definitely the lack of 60p… Moire is only a problem in certain situations, like when using the metabones adapter in raw. They make a 300 dollar filter that supposedly works great. Adding 60p makes this camera a lot more well rounded...
  22. You can do waveform monitoring on the 5D3 Raw?
  23. Yes, but global shutter and 60p add quite a bit. Also paired with a monitor like the SmallHD 502, that setup is tiny.
