Arizona, I guess the best (and simplest) approach, for a coder/hacker, would be to see how this is done in NX500, which has the same hw of NX1 (or a lower one), and transpose those routines/algorithms to NX1 in a custom fw. The most "difficult" thing would probably implement a switch to select one or the other, since this is not already present in the menu. Perhaps one could "kill" the (imo useless) real 4k mode on NX1, leaving the spaceholder for the cropped UHD one.

Why do you say IQ would be bad? It would have a 1:1 pixel readout w/o downscale, but no line skipping or else. Hence should be fairly good with a good lens, like 50-150s is...
-
Nx1 only shoots with a full sensor readout (1.5 crop factor from 35mm fl). Nx500 only shoots with cropped resolution, i.e. a total of about 2.53 crop factor from ff fl). Hence the 150mm has an effective fl of 225mm on nx1 and of 380mm on nx500. The cool thing would ve being able to use both on the nx1, so to use a digital zoom with the same lens, as Mattias already explained.

thx a lot. please don't disappear as others did ;-)

chant. very interesting. a big question: do you have a vr emulating a nx1? did you write it?
-
Mattias, great colors. I'd like to become as good in grading :-P

Such an adapter, along with nx1/500 hacks, would make me a happy nx1 user for...10 years :-D http://***URL removed***/forums/post/57361842

Ok. My main difficulty as a newbie is understanding which tunings to do to the log images before applying another lut :-( That's really tough, for me.
-
Pavel: I'm sure that the reply to both is yes. But the important question is 'how'. Dunno if that's possible only through scripting, if those modes are not already implemented.
-
Dp, let me understand better. You shoot with Andrew's settings, then apply his 2log lut and then, with NO other adjustments, you apply osiris?
-
Otto, is there a way to implement 2.5k into nx1?
-
Otto, I guess that's a first way to have focus bracketing. Isn't there a command to change focus of a +delta? It would be enough to routinely do that and shoot.
-
So for at least 120fps nx1 still has an edge (having 1.5 crop factor from full sensor 28mp). We'll see for 4k@24.

Update on possible adapter from canikon to nx: http://***URL removed***/forums/post/57327272

Imo nx1 still has the best sensor (bsi and higher mp count) hence 4k is downscaled from slightly larger area. Almost for sure, nx1 has the best hw (a real horsepower to downscale, digitally stabilize and encode in h.265). Sony has a real log mode and possibly higher dr and lower rollong shutter.

Not sw related but interesting for the nx1 community: http://www.dpreviewer.net/forums/redirect-unread/3818034?utm_campaign=internal-link&utm_source=footer-logo&utm_medium=image&ref=footer-logo Nobody able to start from here and design a canon ef to nx adapter? https://www.google.it/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://web.media.mit.edu/~bandy/invariant/move_lens.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwjqt8uVgYTLAhVI0w4KHQq-Dn8QFggeMAE&usg=AFQjCNGD_oK2ET2CqvObaOtNCS2dS39qzQ&sig2=WNXWqlcFb0STLCWA8xaamg I'm 100% sure that: 1) this can be done 2) could be done with an arduino board in the middle, but a bit impractical (anyway I'd still want this) and a transformer for voltage 3) could be done with a custom designed chip, but is has to be designed and...manufactured

About 240fps. It's a four cores arm cpu with additional co-processors. If the sensor can handle it, most certainly can the cpu. I'm not sure for how long, but...at 240fps I would not want more than 10 seconds anyway. Actually 5 would already be more than enough for most purposes.

Nobody compared fw 1.01 and fw 1.2 or higher? As said, 1.2 is where higher bitrate was introduced.
-
Very interesting. I still think 1080@240fps could be possible for the hw, due to what the engineers said during nx1 launch. But I understand the possible limitations. I agree with you on all the rest. It'd be interesting to put the hands on the beta fw for nx500, with 2.5k resolution. And would be even more interesting to compare the fw of nx1 and nx500, to understand where the missing parts are.

I just talked with a computer scientist. He states that reverse engineering would be possible, but very time consuming, especially not knowing exactly the hardware. But he thinks there must be some visible numerical parameters, since those are variables for the main software. Unfortunately he hasn't got time for delving into this and he's not a camera enthusiast, so no personal interest into this :-(
-
I searched. Pro video quality was added with fw 1.2.
-
I see. But I would be more than happy with a 6.5k video with 12bit and 4:4:4 at 200mb/sec ;-) Theoretically 6.5k is possible since the nx1 samples at that res and then downsizes the image. Not sure about the other settings. But bitrate could definitely be increased.
-
Possibly cropped? Or full sensor readout and then downscaled? These are very different things.
-
To verify to bitrate thing one should compare newer fw with older ones, since they increased the max value.
