I still can't get why you can't shoot iso 100 in certain situations. What prevents you from doing this? As to af...check the pics I posted of bicycle race on dpr. The bikes were running towards me, that's the most challenging situation for af. They were blazing fast (about 50km/h). Yet...almost 100% keepers.

Yep. Exactly. This is the key sentence: "One of the reasons is that by brightening the exposure in post, you can selectively brighten some areas and leave others darker. " Of course nx1 is not even mentioned. It doesn't exist for 99.9% of "common" ppl out there. And it's probably the most iso invariant camera, thx to its low nm bsi copper based sensor. P.s. the mode name for the display is "framing mode".

Arikhan, I really don't understand you. ISO is just a feature of camera processing for many cameras (but Canon, which uses analog amplification, hence the problem in pulling ISO from ISO 100). Then, certain sensors are better used at base ISO (and then pulled in post), others are better when used at the ISO which allows the correct exposure. I'm just stating that NX1 belongs to the former cathegory. Much better to shoot ISO 100 (even getting black pictures) and then pull shadows in post, than using ISO 3200+ in camera. If you don't believe in me...no problem I never take anything personal, especially on forums. You can test by yourself if you have a NX1 and if you are willing to do so. btw...there is nothing preventing you to shoot ISO 100 in any lighting condition, provided that you use the correct setting for the display (I can't remember its title right now). This allows you to see in the display the image as if the light would be enough. The resulting picture will be dark (to very dark). Then...no problem, you can pull in post (up to +5EV in LT, making an ISO 100 picture like it were an ISO 3200 one, but then you can also selectively rise shadows, actually obtaining much more than that figure and...where it is really needed). Of course, if you have to shoot ISO 10.000, NX1 is NOT for you anyway. NX1 is good/decent up to ISO 6400. ISO 10.000 would be overkill for it, as it is for your D500.

Sorry, but NX1 is a totally different camera from any Canon. Totally. You shoot ISO 100 with canon and push the shadows in post? TOTAL NOISE. You do the same with NX1? Much better results than native high ISO. Of course I'm not saying the NX1 is on par or better than 1DX MK2. It's 1 stop behind in noise level, but has 8MP more. And if you shoot ISO 100 even in low light and push in post...you'll be amazed. Even with 1/250 or higher. AF is another thing. Mirrorless are way different than DSLR in AF technique. I have read so many posts like yours (about D500 having more keepers). Simply...and sorry to say that, you don't use the right technique with NX1. Again, I'm not saying NX1 is on par or better with D500 in AF. Again, it has more MP and a totally different focusing system. you need to know exactly how it works to make the best out of it. And yet, from time to time it misses focus, but...believe in me, I have improved 500% my keepers rate with practice. Now, when I shoot some sports like bicicle races, basketball or tennis, I have near 100% keepers, something I never achieved with any other system. Of course, I'm referring to NX1 + 16-50S or, even better, 50-150S.

Arikhan: for low light, try to shoot it at iso 100 raw, and raise shadows in post. Much better than high iso. P.s. to the original poster. Nx1 is still the best hybrid apsc camera. One of the overall best in general. If you find a good deal, buy it.

What do you think of andrew's settings? I'm using those, but I'm not very experienced in video.

Depends on what you look for. As someone who don't heavily grade his footage, I'd prefer more sharpness (if this is natural and not artificial). For many aspects, nx1 is still the king. Of course much underrated.

Same here. They are fine till about 45%, then they drop in a heartbeat.

Is anybody using this combo? I'm referring to the hand strap for mirrorless cameras.

It'd be great if e-shutter only could be enabled for nx1. I'm pretty sure it could do at least 24fps in that mode, at 4k or even 6k.

I'd like to achieve the style from this movie. Any hints on grading/LUTs?

The best thing would be some 'pirate crew' working on this. They crack the most complex sw protection, they would do wonders with a simple fw file ;-)

Incredible how much sharper the nx1 is... without being oversharpened.

Nx1: still much more details, faster and more consistent af and better colors. Gh5: much better is, 60fps more at 2k, slightly less rs. For video gh5 is probably the best choice right now, if someone is starting a system from scratch. Nx1 is a much better camera for stills and very good for video nevertheless. On a side note, a big thumbs up for this guy, who is still considering nx1, while most other previous "supporters" simply forgot about it.

Yep, definitely. That's a hw from about 2020 (in canikon terms) vs a hw from about 2012.

I still wonder what these guys could do with the much more powerful hw of nx1, if just they wanted.

I guess nobody is really interested in this product. Too bad.
