  1. I used this on the A7s ... a change of the 15mm vertical rod adapts it to any size camera so it is forward compatible: http://woodencamera.com/Quick-Cage-DSLR-Small.html No specific XC10 but advantage is these adapt to future cameras. Bob
  2. Guess it depends on your furniture ... and I for one would love to own Cooke glass. Story from Zeiss is that the Otus line was designed by the team that produced the Master Prime lenses ... so the $4K is a bargain relative to those. New camera and process I tend not to experiment with real folks ... they get tired of the endless repetition. Most of my stuff is somewhat boring ... which is why I tend not to show it ... Bob
  3. I hesitate but here it is .... no cinema just working on exposure and post process with these... Two lenses very different character on the C100 Mk II Zeiss Otus 85 https://vimeo.com/139408101 Richard Gale DSO 88 FF https://vimeo.com/139083257 Similar subject matter ... inside soft diffused natural light to outside Texas summer ... I find the rendering of the Canon to be wholly organic the antithesis of harsh clinical ... colors very natural and accurate. When you nail the exposure they are wonderful ... overexpose a bit and they still refrain from evoking any sense of brittle on the edge of a break character. Such a wonderful camera to shoot ... main drawback is all the material you can capture in a short period of time ... lots to filter through in post. These both were with the Odyssey 7Q+ in Prores HQ ... some say overkill but what a great monitor to gauge exposure and focus. Sorry for the length of the files ... this is about 20% of what I captured with the camera on those outings. And I tend towards a robust file ... not too many milky blacks .... As I normally do not find those in my subject material. Bob
  4. Interesting Wiki thread ... http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Radioactive_lenses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isotopes_of_thorium http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/24/garden/24granite.html?_r=0 http://solidsurfacealliance.org/G-radioactivity-radon-issues.html Bob

  6. Truth be told... just hosting this thread may put Andrew and EOSHD at risk for legal redress from Panasonic ... as their ability to go to the source in China is next to nill ... in the West rule of law still applies. Probably best if all this were off forum and this thread shut down. JMHO Bob
  7. My tripod weighs more than that....

    Great article

Perhaps the $500 differential between the C100 and the 5D3 is too much? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/889545-REG/Canon_EOS_C100_EF_Cinema.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/847545-REG/Canon_5260A002_EOS_5D_Mark_III.html It has been mentioned on this site that buying the new new thing is a costly enterprise. Canon has a Cine line for the pros who cannot tolerate overheating color issues and batteries that last for a shorter time than most sound bites. I imagine that they do not think saddling their customers with poorly executed solutions and expecting them to pay again for the next rendition is a great business model. Not defending them just stepping away from all the technologic advances that cost you much more over time. Bob
  9. After using an A7s for the better part of a year I decided to forgo 4K for the present time and moved to a dedicated HD video camera. Was unsure that the move was the best but was looking for a better workflow and one that would satisfy my sensitivities to color and light. I recently purchased a C100 Mk II and with the new Lumetri Panel in Premiere I am fairly certain it will work for me. Forget cinema ... this is about landscape and trying to capture light and motion the is close to my perception of what I see. The following I shot this morning around a train yard in Texas ... old train cars, rust, graffiti and buildings. Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/138928134 Password is daysend As I do not share my videos ... almost never I tend to use music that would get me in trouble if I did ... so this will be pulled pretty quickly. Just wanted to share a bit of Canon Color..... Bob
  10. Weight is your friend when you attempt smooth pan tilt movements. Bob
  11. Settler Ace M ... only real fluid like head that I know of in this price (used) and weight range. Most others are springy things ... their definition of fluid. Bob
  12. Wooden Camera has a fairly complete line of products ... This is the high end for the Sony A7 series.... http://woodencamera.com/Sony/Camera-Support-Sony/Sony-A7s-Accessory-Kit-Pro.html but look at their complete listings. Bob
  13. So I had this camera in my BH cart for weeks ... then opted for a C100 Mk II ... mainly due to the size and concerns about Slog colors. After struggling with the A7s I was not excited about wrestling with Sony color space. Although the 4:4:4 RGB output is truly the selling point. So I drag my CD Odyssey 7Q+ along to get a paltry 4:2:2 Prores HQ out of the C100 Mk II ... not that smaller than the F3. But I get dual pix AF and a color science that I can easily work with.... Still ... a sale of this magnitude makes you want to but it even if it is a bad decision. Bob No I think it is his cat ... and sometimes the better part of discretion is to let sleeping dogs lie..... Discernment and judgment are polar opposites ... pray that I err on the gracious side. Bob
  14. This is from my new C100 Mk II ... just exploring color and exposure so nothing cinematic. As I do these for myself the music is not common domain ... and I will pull this at days end. So... Password : daysend https://vimeo.com/135901284 Allowed the highlights to blow out to see how gracefully they rolled off ... or not. Same Password : daysend https://vimeo.com/135816943 Bob
  15. When it gets Texas hot ... 106F at 5PM today I shut down long before any camera will. Bob
  16. And a C100 Mk II or older C300 may work. I played with the FS7 today ... lots of plastic and a garbage LCD loupe ... could not focus with it ... without it the screen was gorgeous. At 8K I expect a marginally better experience ... shucking low end components with a great sensor and codec seems to be the Sony ethic ... surprised they did not sell used cars at some point. Bob
  17. Think that is known as Beta Tester Cinematic Genius ... adrenaline rush when it all works, crash when it doesn't. I considered this but remembered a comment from an IBM executive early on ... consistent repeatable production without errors trumps innovation when critical delivery is mandatory. So ... I returned to HD from 4K in that I purchased a C100 Mk II ... will sell off my A7S CD Odyssey 7Q+ . My D-Lux 109 will give me 4K to play. Hope that the BM goes mainstream at some point as the quality of their image when it works is stunning. Bob
  18. Kholi's SLOG2 profile prevents you from using standard commercial LUTS as he has tweaked the color settings ... so the LUT which expects standard SLOG2 is inaccurate. He gives great color without a LUT - Vision Color, FilmConvert or James Miller all are less than ideal with his profile. Bob
  19. And I just moved from 4K with A7s/CD Odyssey 7Q+ to a C100 Mk II .... Today. Looked at the FS7 and could not get the little plastic thing to focus the LCD ... too many little into the menu things. Do not want a 20K C300 Mk II but was pleasantly surprised by the well thought out format of the C100 Mk II. So my A7s Woodencamera Cage and mount and the CD Odyssey 7Q+ will be on the market. I have owned Sony EX1R Red One Red Epic a huge number of MF Digital Cameras and have extensive experience in color correction but I will not continue to play the find the correct LUT for each damn clip and try to match them all. Ideally an ARRI Amira would work ... but I will try to duplicate a simple color balanced film look from this camera. Oh its fan is imperceptible in use but it does not overheat. And a simple ATMOS Ninja Star will give me Prores. The AF is delightful and it weighs not much more than the A7s and cage. Easier to balance and I can start recording without setting off a seismic perturbation that takes 10 seconds to still in video. Now when they give me 4K or 4.6K at this level for a moderate price I will be there. Played with the Canon EOS Cinema lenses .... seem as well made as the Zeiss CP.2s Overall a big day ... Bob
  20. Tim, Landscape still and video are worlds apart .... jump to conclusions is what seems to be the standard here. Otherwise one's cherished viewpoint might be at risk. We all want Red Weapon for a tuppence ... and will not be satisfied with much less. Personally a CCD from the Leica S006 that would allow 4K at 60P would be fine with me. Tough crowd ... but welcome from another rather new member. Bob
  21. Best not ask.... And I have no clue.... Bob
  22. Time for an update and a retraction.... Seems like my A7s decided to change my memory setting and I was shooting not S-Log2 S Gamut and applying a LUT was very wrong ... after an hour working through the issue today I have no complaints about color .... just keep an eye on the camera when it is booted up. Probably messed things up when I updated the firmware ... which only affected the startup time. A wasted weekend ... now better with the knowledge that I can find decent color. As an aside ... was shooting mid-day Texas heat with my CD Odyssey 7Q+ in a screen shade protector ... reached internal 60C with warnings after an hour ... very hot to the touch. Bob
  23. Comes down to S-Log2 color ... anything like the A7s and this camera will be a disappointment. Way too much time to correct even with LUTS if you expect anything close to reality. Now if it is great - or mimics Arri color or C300 color then it will get my attention. However lack of 10bit is still a major deficit especially at these prices. Oh would have favored a more professional power input - LEMO at a minimum as it is small enough to fit on the camera. Also locking HDMI output cable. Bob
