  1. Yes, 4K 60P and 4K 120P also. Noise: it was very dark (dark clouds), the lens is f5.6 at the long end, and the 120 fps shots used a fast shutter (1/250th). No AF working, so all manual. I agree with you - we need a recorder with SDI in a 5" form factor.
  2. New real video from the FS5 II minus the new PP and the black ND dial. Shot in Slog2 RAW, recorded on the Shogun Inferno using ProRes HQ, graded in Resolve Studio. Is a test of the $298 Sony DT 55-300mm lens.
  3. The "original" is not a clip from the camera. It is not ProRes 422, but 28 Mbps, H264, 8bit 420. This is totally misleading or else I did not see an explanation. This is just an edited promo piece. It could have been shot with anything.
  4. This is not a DSLR, but it probably has the most lasting value of any: the Sony FS700R, which came out in 2012 and has been upgraded by firmware updates since then. It has the same sensor as the FS7 and FS5, and now shoots via SDI 4K DCI 12bit RAW, 4K DCI 60P , and 4K DCI 120P in burst mode via the SDI port (exactly the same capability as the FS5). No actual camera has yet best that. It is ugly and ungainly, but its innards are good and its buttons and dials work well.
  5. You do not understand - you are paying for Resolve. It is not free, but added to the price of the camera. By the time this camera comes out Vegas may very well work with all the codecs. And if it doesn't you can buy Resolve Studio. But now you must pay for it, whether it is "necessary" or not.
  6. I am glad you are rooting for Blackmagic and their anticompetitive strategy to increase market share. Stick to shooting video, you do not have a clue about the welfare consequences of business strategies and competition. Bundling is well known as an anti-competitive practice that hurts consumers. In this case, there are other editors that can or will work with the video from the new camera (duh, you think other software companies do not want people to use their software with the new camera?), and we should have the choice of what editor we want. Note, again, I have Resolve Studio - so this is not anti the software. But, I and all others that bought the software already lose from this practice. And those who do not want to use Resolve also lose. Who wins? BM. The only thing you have right is that they are trying to boost sales of Resolve, at the expense of consumer welfare.
  7. And if you already bought Resolve Studio? Why pay for it again? Bundling is an anti-consumer strategy (recall cable companies?) - paying for what you want is what we want.
  8. Another first! A 4K HDR time-lapse from the RX0: Recorded in 4K Slog2 using the Shogun Inferno. Converted to HDR HLG in Resolve Studio. The Shogun does the time-lapse using the 4K 10bit 422 from the RX0 HDMI. I can't wait for the Ninja V!
  9. Oh, don't forget you need to blacken the ND filter knob to make it an official FS5 II. So that ink is very valuable.
  10. You could sell the upgrade kit - a pen, with ink included!
  11. I am not sure whether your last sentence is meant to be an insult or what. I was not defending any inflammatory posts (or posters) that (who) deliberately insult or offend people (and I totally agree with you on which posts they are); I was only cautioning against denigrating people based on their profession, their vita or their videos' quality, or even whether they post or shoot videos as if that were relevant to the substance of any remark. I think deliberately insulting posts should just be removed by a moderator, because they seem to lead to even more insulting posts. I have been trapped by them too, responding in kind - I am no saint. It's the insulting baby syndrome, and it is contagious. My last post was not meant to be personally insulting (I was not personally insulted and was not angry at anyone). It was meant to counter credentialism as a criterion for judging posts. That's it. Maybe I just don't get it. In any case, given my credentials, no need to pay attention...
  12. I do not like hyperbolic language ("garbage", etc.) and I think that subjective opinions on how videos look ("looks plasticy") do not add much value (but are interesting). However, I think that worse are personal comparisons that imply that some poster's opinions are more worthy than others'. While I think that is of course true, the weights placed are purely subjective and the criteria not obvious. The best videographer or DP might be a total ignoramus about anything but the camera he or she uses, or a paid shill for some manufacturer, or a poor communicator, or be logic-challenged, or see everything in black and white (not literally!). And an armchair enthusiast who never shot a video might know something others do not and have exquisite tastes regarding video art. Or someone may know more about optics, sensors, or production techniques without ever even seeing a video. Most respected critics of art (including film) do not paint or shoot. "Greater minds" is not conducive to free discussion - should there be prerequisites for posting (submit your videos, or take a test - which camera has the best low-light performance? why is 8 bit better than 10 bit? write down all the perks you have ever received from manufacturers )? Yours truly, a lesser mind.
  13. You can now buy extra batteries and a charger direct from Z with free shipping and fast delivery at a reasonable price. http://www.z-cam.com/e1/
  14. Just make sure it is a FS700R. That camera is still a great bargain, and state of the art in some dimensions, as noted above.
  15. I agree, but if you have more than one camera you can use the Inferno on the other cameras too, taking advantage of its HDR capabilities or brightness or focus or exposure scopes. So the cost is spread. And it seems like it will be a useful tool for future camera replacements.
  16. It's still true that almost no cameras < $5,000 but the FS5 and FS700 can shoot high-quality slow motion from RAW - here is 240 FPS slow motion in 2K: or 4K 120 FPS: This is just trying to make a really bad Spring more bearable.
  17. Yes, they say it does. But then no external storage via that usb-c port. The usb-c is a real advance - external power or storage.
  18. Of course, this was my wish - a manageable-size external recorder that records 4K. But, with no SDI, there is no RAW output recording with existing cameras, so it is useless for the Sony FS700R and FS5 in gaining 4K 120P and 60P, which one can do using the 7" Inferno. The benefits for existing cameras: this will enable owners of the GH5 and GH5S to record 4K 60P in 10bit, and all of those many Sony RX0 owners to record 4K 30P in 10bit. Otherwise, for most owners of mirrorless cameras it permits just higher bitrates at 8bit 422, for which almost no one sees a significant difference. If one needs just a nice HDR screen, one is better off with a model without the recorder to get an even more compact form with better battery life. And while I am in a pessimistic mood: the fact that it uses a new form of storage that is not a standard means it is likely that (1) this product will not be available for a while and (2) the storage will be expensive. Currently the Inferno uses standard SSD drives (which are still expensive). Am I going to get one - yes.
  19. If the used camera does not have the paid RAW firmware upgrade ($500) or the paid 120P HD (internal) firmware upgrade ($500) then it is not equal, not even close, to the new model. The external RAW capability is what makes the FS5 (along with the variable ND) still state of the art - 60P and120P 4K DCI, 4K DCI RAW, 2K 240P RAW and also in ProRes RAW! As a current FS5 owner (who got the RAW upgrade free), I am almost (almost) happy I do not have to buy a new camera for now. It would have taken IBIS, PDAF and internal 422 10bit 4K at 60P. But
  20. Yes, they did change the color of the ND filter knob, fixing the number one complaint about the camera! Sony prides itself on listening to its customers. And yes, the new FS5 II contains all the firmware updates of the current FS5, and absolutely no more than that.
  21. I am sorry, but the recording capabilities you list are exactly the same on the FS5 now (with the appropriate firmware update): "HDR and Rec.2020 4K modes, it's also capable of DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) RAW to an external recorder, at up to an astonishing 120fps, although this frame rate is limited to 4 seconds of slow-motion capture. 4K 60p meanwhile is continuous externally, and internally the camera records 4K up to 30p. " Exactly the same. Exactly. Hard to believe this is a new model, or this information is correct.
  22. Ok, so we can conclude there is no hard information indicating the benefits of ProRes RAW over CinemaDNG RAW. I am glad that you and the others are happy about this new product. But do wish you could answer whether or not Apple software can work with Cinema DNG RAW. If not I can well understand why you are happy, since the new offering surely will be useful to Apple software users given what they are unable to do now. So, the product is announced but no one is allowed to say what it does. That's hype! Zero content.
  23. The Z Camera E1, that cheap m43 camera, does preselected focus pulls (not the same as touch focus) using its wifi app: I think this is the same concept. In this case you can only do this with the app, but for set shots that is fine. I wish I had the better subjects...
  24. Sorry, you do not seem to understand the issue. Is it better than CinemaDNG RAW or not? We all know the benefits of RAW, what does this new flavor of RAW add? Or is it that Apple Software will not let you edit using CinemaDNG RAW? So Apple offers something like it - no better- that people can only use with Apple software? For people who can choose a codec based on its performance we still do not have any info.
