  1. When not challenged by very high DR, I prefer Standard. But, what do I know?
  2. https://github.com/irungentoo/Xiaomi_Yi_4k_Camera/tree/master/4k+/bitrate
  3. Testing 200 Mbps 4K 60P on the Yi 4K+ I set the bitrate at 200 Mbps and shot for 1.25 hours, resulting in 47 GB's of video clips. The temperature was 76 F, with direct sunlight. No overheating, no frames dropped. Perfectly normal, except for somewhat higher battery draw, but I had still had 33% left when I stopped. This "hack" does not alter the firmware, it just loads the settings in memory. Doing that does not invalidate the warranty, and is easy to install. Does 200 Mbps make a difference compared with the default of 135 Mbps (a 50% increase)? Who knows; but it does not hurt!
  4. All frame rate settings use only the camera. I set 4K 60p RAW from the menu in the camera. Based on a menu setting, just pressing the S&Q button on the camera puts it in 4K 120P RAW. Press again for 2K 240P RAW, press again back to 4K 60P. The Inferno automatically resets in response to the camera output.
  5. Thanks. All my videos on a gimbal use an external mic. A Yi adaptor is needed to connect an analog audio plug via the usb-c port. It works fine. This provides an example of the audio with an external mic:
  6. Camera RAW 12bit 4K DCI->Shogun ProRes 422 HQ 10bit 4K DCI. Sony 55-300mm Alpha lens.
  7. My criticism extended to my soda pouring video (did I not mention soda?), which is a parody of silly glass pouring videos, like the one I criticized, get it?
  8. This is a pretty picture, but as a "test" this is the worst kind of example - most of the frame is OOC (bokeh is pretty nice) and there is hardly any detail to anything. Let's see people moving around in a complex setting. If pouring water (soda) into glasses is the main use of slo-mo, then this is right on...
  9. The RAW is 12bit, and the recorder can also record that using Cinema DNG RAW.
  10. Slow Motion 4K 120P Experiment Falls Flat Wanted to shoot preparing a bubbly soda in 4K 120p slowed down and up close. Unfortunately, the soda was flat, and so is this video. End trigger worked well, though - nailing the exact action. And skin tone and detail are excellent.
  11. Sony FS5/FS700 in burst mode 12bit RAW->ProRes 422 HQ 10bit 4K DCI 120 fps no crop gives best quality, but you need an external recorder. Burst mode limits mostly not an issue if interested in slow motion, since that translates to 16 seconds or so of slow mo (enough to get to the boring threshold). This is a constraint. But this is about quality. This test video has both 4K 60P and 120P shots (slowed down), to compare quality:
  12. As far as I know, the FS5 has the same sensor as the FS700 (and FS7). I would expect the results to be at least as good.
  13. The cable. From ConvergentDesign: "The Odyssey Ultra-Thin SDI Cable is a flexible and lightweight cable for use with the Odyssey7 and Odyssey7Q [obviously any SDI 3G recorder]. The SDI cable is rated for 3G signals and is useful in camera-mounted installations where its thinness and flexibility will help keep it out of the way for operators. Despite its small size, the SDI Cable is quite rugged and can even be tied in knots without effecting performance. Standard length is 36” with custom lengths available on special order." As you can see from my picture posted above, the cable is very thin , it has the usual BNC locks, so it does not get loose. And it is indeed very flexible and light, so it truly does not interfere with moving the camera around given the 3-foot length and the fact that the recorder is close by hanging on one's body. Heat. The Atomos does get very hot. The latest firmware: "Adjusted Temperature Control thresholds for non ventilated environments." seems to expect use like this. In 1.5 hours of shooting in 86-degree Fahrenheit temperature with the Inferno never turned off and in the bag there were no issues. I got hot too.
  14. Run and gun means one can carry around a camera with no rigs, poles, tripods or other aids shooting handheld, for hours. The FS700R needs the 7" Shogun Inferno attached by wire to shoot 4K60P and 120P RAW. Can this combo be used for run and gun? Well, if you think of the Shogun not as a monitor but as just an external recorder, then you can just put it in a shoulder bag. Convergent Design makes a very thin and flexible (you can tie it in knots they show) 3' SDI cable. So carry the recorder in a shoulder bag and shoot with the camera. The cable is so thin and flexible and long, it is as if it is not there (SDI cables also have more secure attachments than HDMI cables; no danger of the wire coming loose). To test this, I went to shoot the local chickens, in slo mo 4K. Cinematic chickens. Inferno in the shoulder bag, me, the camera and Zeiss 2470 FE OSS lens. From ProRes 422 HQ Slog2.
  15. All of these were shot in Standard. The criterion was reproduction of what was seen. Obviously, that is not the aim of video or film, but if the starting point is off, it is more difficult to achieve a look one wants that deliberately distorts reality for a purpose.
  16. From the specs: "F-number (Maximum Aperture) F4.0 (Fixed)" That's why. Does the GoPro have fixed aperture? yes. Does the Sony X3000 have a fixed aperture? yes. If we are going to start flogging alternatives, then the Yi 4K+ should be listed: its is the only action cam that can do 4K 60p (at 135 Mbps), and it does not overheat even close to what the GoPro's and the Sony X3000 and Rx100 V do, and I am sure the RX0 will do. The Yi 4K+ has the latest Sony 1/2.3" sensor and the latest 14nm Ambarella processor (heat efficient and fast). https://www.yitechnology.com/yi-4k-plus-action-camera
  17. Yi 4K+ on a the Zhiyun Evolution gimbal at the end of the day.
  18. No optical or sensor stabilization, no aperture, no GPS, wifi is not two band. This is incredibly mediocre. One can now shoot 4K 60p in a tinier camera that is less than half the price (without overheating), with two-band wifi. I thought Sony is supposed to be an innovator. This is a crippled RX100 with an inferior lens boxed in a waterproof package - wow!
  19. The first rule of the web: don't make things up. Here are the specs (so you can stop speculating). No 4K internal: https://www.sony.com/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras/dsc-rx0/specifications There is absolutely nothing for us in this camera. Let's move on...
  20. It seems they are now finally allowing the use of H265 for 4K video shooting: "A low-bit-rate recording mode 4K HEVC for HLG was added." The question is how "low".
