  1. They can, FPN was highly reduced in the BMPC4K via firmware. There is actually a lot of things going on in Raw as well. In the debayer process when it becomes DNGs it can be processed differently. An example is that the BMD has a bit of sharpening while the D16 is much less "sharp" or more "soft", depending on how you view it.
  2. I just got a bit curious and thought it could be interesting to get a sense of how many uses noise reduction? Be it Neat Video or Red Giant Denoiser or what have you. For work I have used it on a project in the past and on my first couple of t3i videos. But other than that I never use it. In all my +200 youtube videos there is no noise reduction. Be it the BMPC4K, D16, Sonys a7sii, etc, nope dont use it. I guess I don't think its worth the time, a little noise never killed anybody. I don't even have my Neat Video license installed anymore. So what do you guys say, sometimes, never, always?
  3. The native for J-log is 800, so thats where I would stay. But 1600 is fine if needed. 3200 is stretching it but what tha heck. In gain terms +6db is nice, +12db is ok.
  4. It at least sounds good. "The Bomb Sony A9 rumor: The source sent me this: “The next generation flagship mirrorless camera from Sony will be a giant leap. It will drop a huge bomb in the imaging industry. It will not be A7III or A7RIII. It will be a new model above A7 series. I would say A9 (let’s name it as the new model). So the new A9 will have dual XQD card slot, no CFast version, only XQD. A9 can do UNLIMITED RAW burst, UNLIMITED. The camera wont pause for buffering.”"
  5. That's a shame. I have Metabones and it works great. Its just the price that's a bit high. But I guess you get what you pay for.
  6. So, pretty cheap. Don't care about AF, all I would need is the aperture and IS. Any experiences? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Auto-Focus-AF-Lens-Adapter-for-Canon-EF-to-MFT-Micro-4-3-Olympus-Panasonic-V3M1-/141883513278?hash=item2108ea99be:g:RYoAAOSwa-dWlH6d
  7. I haven't used the 80D and probably never will since Im not into Canon gear all that much. But I seriously doubt that the GH2 is a better stills camera than the 80D. Please prove me wrong, but I doubt it. (And yes I know you meant video, but these are stills cameras, that's their job. That's why people buy them.) Yes they do. When people stand in front of the 50 TVs at Best Buy they look at the "Image". The entire "Image". All of them have generally the same resolution. So they choose the one that "Feels" best. Otherwise explain this, why do Hollywood DPs that can choose what ever they want to shoot with, still choose film or the 2K Alexa. In the Oscar nominations 2016 it was 50% film. If "Resolution" is all that matter and disqualifies everything else. why does this happen?
  8. I think it might have been iso3200 which is usable but at the s16 crop it is a bit more aggressive. No weird colors which is good. The camera usually don't get that in shadows. Its main achilles heal are low contrast mid tones. When pushing an image above the 12 stops DR, trying to treat is a Raw or something, the mids will get the ugliest FPN when grading. Ungraded its ok. The good news is that I have had such footage in all my videos and its fine. One just have to face the limitations of the camera and crush the mids down where they belong. If I was shooting for news or something and didn't care about noise and grading, just want to confirm what I see, then the camera is +13 stops imo. Usable stops are 12.
  9. Its an awesome idea for a thread, but I rather have footage straight from the card, no exports. And info on camera, lens, and PP. Then we can see the difference in how we grade and discuss how.
  10. Don't know how others grade but to me its 100% relevant. Did a grade that usually looks nice but the codec fell like a house of cards. Its a trial and error until I know and that just takes to much time So I just did a quick thing treating it as rec709. Nothing special, leveled it 1 degree as well.
  11. That would have been the same thing but less lenses to choose from.
  12. Put on some s16 magic today The frame was from the zoom with a bit to much iso, it was getting dark. The 12mm is very compact.
  13. If its an interview and I don't really care if the background blows or not, then i go 70%.
  14. Waking this thread since its the place we have talked the most about the D16 and I just thought this looked great.
  15. So anyone wants a kidney? $33000 and its yours. Im so renting that thing!
  16. Shitlight was referring to "99% of the tests" in the post I responded to.
  17. Its just that you forgot that there is a genre called "documentary". I stand by my statement that was also proven in the Zacuto test. Pretty much any camera looks good if the DP has the know how and resources needed. When there isn't time, money, knowledge, what have you, its all down to the camera, lens and codec. GH2 with loads of lights Alexa with Shitlight Iphone with shit loads of light And BTW, if you think Hollywood Blockbusters don't need to keep cost down and that they can use an endless amount of lights, think again. Same thing with the BMPC4K. Lots of noise if pushed to hard. Still worth it for the image imo. Solution was to not push, or light the scene.
  18. Shitlight is what seperates cameras. All cameras look awesome in controlled light. Both low and bright. Just look at the Zacuto test. An Alexa and GH2 both look good. It just took 50 more lights for the GH2. The Alexa made do with the shitlight.
  19. I bought the NX1 pretty shortly after the relese. That was not "years ago" and definetelly not when the GH3 was released. And the NX1 has its own problems. Or is being discontinued a new and fresh feature? This constant bashing of cameras by people that have never ever used them is getting so old. I dont find the 80D all that exciting, but Ive never used it. So I dont bash it until I have. I absolutely hate my rx100iv, but I still dont constantly post bs in the rx100iv thread. The G7 is one of the worst cameras Ive used, but I let those who are interested discuss it in peace without unfunny jokes and bogus links. I would rather jam a fork in my eye than get a a6300, but I dont feel the need to tell every one that have bought it how wrong they are... Im out until someone actually has the camera.
  20. Im looking forward to completing the review, test all kinds of vintage glass like c-mounts and my K3-Bayonets. Unfortunately I have to return it this week and don't really have time for another two weeks.... ..so I have bought one Here are 5 Reason why. Im hoping to get my own copy in a week or so. Ordered it from Germany and they seem a bit slow. I suspect they bring them home on order.
  21. The guy in the video isn't just some guy. He knows damn well what it is he is testing and he is very clear on pointing out that it is the dual pixel AF that he is testing. So again, what Panasonic camera has had dual pixel phase detection auto focus that can be pushed controlled on a smartphone without loosing image while recording for years? None is the answer, it was rhetorical but might as well be clear
  22. Ok I ask again, Dual pixel phase detection? I might not remember correctly but didnt the gh3 loose picture on the smartphone as soon as you hit record?
