Canon C300 Mark II suffers black spot issue
Mattias Burling replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Or shoot run n gun. -
Yup, its a great camera. What the critics always forgett is that the competitors cant touch it. Closest is the Sony AX100 and that has what, 0.2 backwards steps of DR? Imo videomakers have this wierd thought that Canons products are aimed at Indy Art Videos. When its probably the last thing they care about.

Just got a call from the delivery firm. The LS300 is delayed untill tomorrow. Suspect its because what the a-holes in Brussels did. If only that had been the worst consequence of such an act. -

I agree, its just that imo the F3 is just as impractical. I want small or big. And if it's big, it can be big. The nr1 reason I never gotten an F3 is that I might as well lug an R1 or URSA. -

Me to, but if we weren't far enough OT with the Red, we sure are now Plus, where I live its much cheaper to shoot 35mm film than Alexa, and that would be a no brainer. Just hot swap. Not difficult to set up. There is one of the best features of the BMCC imo, internal hot swap. Its a general discussion on small cameras around the $3K mark. Seeing how there is now an endless amount of gear that's affordable to many, I thought it was interesting to see what people would go for. Here are some quotes from the first post. "If they all cost more or less the same, give or take $200 which would you rather have? Were talking around the ever so popular $3000 line." "I really want a DSLR or equivalent type of camera. This is for home use, youtube, stills and an occasional freelance gig (been using the D750 for that lately, they never ask for Raw, they do however like 4K sometimes when its static shots of machines/products)." Personally I don't have a problem with Sony colors either and I have made my own LUTs that gets me the skin tones ín one step. Two steps if I want to grade. But I don't want to have to deal with that when their are, imo, better options like Raw, Redcode, BMDFilm, C-log, etc. -

I would probably kill for redcode in something like a 5Dmkiii with Magic Lantern. Not gonna happen, but boy would it be sweet. -

Ive bought/used the BMPCC, BMCC, BMPC4K and Red One MX so Im quite familiar with their respective workflows. That's why I asked, don't find them all that different in terms of workflow. I don't see how Prores could be considered a positive next to red compression. Same size, same speed, but the redcode is still raw. The only thing that would slow you down on the red is the boot up, but that's just if you want it to. You can just leave it on. Plus it doesn't take 2 minutes. It takes about 15 seconds before you have picture on the monitor and by the time you have framed, exposed and set focus its done. Then you leave it on. F3 is of no interest to me and I couldn't care less about 4K. Either way this thread for me was about small cameras and the URSA is not a small camera. That's why I pointed out the Red. They are both to big imo to be used Run n Gun anyway. So if its going to be locked down shots only I rather save the cash and use a Red with better lowlight and higher DR for less money. Its the first Blackmagic camera I have no interest in. Ive was more excited by the URSA major, if its that big, might as well go all in. But that's just me. -

How so? Red code can be edited in realtime in any editor on a moddest laptop. Besides the Red workflow beeing a bit easier and faster I dont see a big difference. When shooting Red and Blackmagic side by side its equal amount of work. Whats that river in Africa called again? -

We are just gonna have to agree to disagree. And dont think you can and you've failed blind tests before so no point in debating. Enjoy your camera. (btw I have no idea what my TV had to do with it, strange comment.) -

D750 is probably the best hybrid for the hobbiest imo. The NX1 is a great video camera and great at stills in daylight. In dusk, dawn and darkness it fails in AF and its no monster in dark video either. A true hybrid needs to work 24h/day imo. I doubt you could tell good HD uspcaled from true 4K on places like youtube, and TV don't want no 4K. And I doubt you will shoot for 4K cinema on a hybrid. I can somewhat get the "future" thing but no one will care in the future. I still watch my favorite shows captured in SD and they are just as good today. Regarding personal stuff like travel videos and such, no one is going to watch it in the future anyway. -

Great camera but hard to ignore the Red One MX for less money and better lowlight. -
Capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments: to raw or not to raw?
Mattias Burling replied to jase's topic in Cameras
I don't use variable on RX100, to big. But I use a fixed 52mm with a magfilter so I can ad it to the internal when needed. (never had issues with variable accept for the size, just need to buy good once.) -

Rx100 will do fine. Get a magfilter though, if you dont have one. -

Not stupid at all. 4K is totally overrated imo. One of the least important features in a camera. But I would not want an AF100 and Ive already had an FS100. They are nice but not really up to todays standard imo. Not in IQ not ease of use/features. I have more lenses, mics and lights than I would ever need. But if you dont, I agree. Audio and suport is more important than resolution. In this thread I was more after the small package cameras, DSLR equivalent. Something to grab when you left your big camera at home. To travel with or do some light Run n Gun. And stills. -
Imo. URSA or a BMCC in a rig = same same. Equaly run n gun worthy. Only difference is that the bmcc can be smaller and doesnt always need external power.

Sure, but I like the 16mm cameras I already have. And I know a place where they recently sold an Arri 16mm with three PL lenses for €40. No I did not forget a 0... it was €40. And the Ikonoskop 16mm at €1400 was also tempting. -
Classifieds, on forums and ebay. Ive said it many times. Its just that one cant just do a search for "super cheap amazing deal" and expect it to sit there and no one else has bought it. It takes a bit of effort and work. The thing I get asked the most about is finding vintage lenses, I have decided to do tutorial on it

Say what? I regularly find used BMCC 2.5K with included speedbooster, SSD, rig, etc for $1500-$2000. Body only is $1000. But I sure don't find ursas for that price.

Imo it has about 2 more usable stops at ISO800. It can take much more beating in Resolve and it has an over all nicer color. Plus higher resolution in continuous shooting. And of course ability to several flawors of Prores. "Billion" negatives, I have to look hard to fins even three. What the 5D has in favour imo is the small body, battery, stills, and full frame. Its more of a run n gun Raw camera. For narrative I would use the BMCC every day of the week.
