There is still some ND. Dont remember how many stops. On the Sony its a no issue imo due to the very high base iso. But I would have an extra regular adapter with me just in case. Im glad you find them helpful.
-
Checkout my review of it. The ND is actually sharper and better than my top notch Genus Eclipse. Its an insanely good deal. I say its the best idea ever. And thats why the C100, C300 and all the ENG cameras I ever used are such great tools Also Fotodiox said this, "That problem comes up when you mount a variable ND on a wide lens. Let's say 24mm (sometimes even just 35mm!). The optics just don't work, and you get that cross-shaped defect. With the ND Throttle, you put the variable ND behind the lens, and so the effect works every time. You can now shoot variable ND with pretty much any lens in your collection." And I agree, no X and there are hard stops for the safe zones.

Capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments: to raw or not to raw?
Mattias Burling replied to jase's topic in Cameras
Then definetelly dont raw. Not because raw isnt good for Hobby, but if a c100 is overkill it sounds like the lx100 is a better fit. -
It does. But its only if you want the options that come with Raw. If you want a gorgeous image that takes almost no space and no converting than the D750 is better imo.
-
Yes they do. 2.5K in the NX500, Sonys lens road map, Red announce entire cameras.... The list goes on and on. Its not unique. The only thing that is, is the products BMD offer for the price they are asking.

I like it. Cant really think of anything negative to say really. Lots of positive though. -

For a trip like that as well as future projects I would get a used C100. They go as little as $1700. Then all you need is basically a lens. Great lowlight, built in NDs, Clog, card runs for ever, long battery. Keep it small with a Rode Micro or big with handle and shotgun. And its a good investment, you can freelance with it for many years to come. -
Just Red, Samsung, Fuji, Sony and I guess the rest of them but I don't have the energy to google it. It happens, what are you gonna do... nothing. Buy whats available

Having the absolute best image quality/dollar is also their thing. All the ripping would be cool, but it just falls flat when their is no competition. Its easy for BMD to say, "Ok, go and buy one of the other super small 60p Raw shooting cameras with 13 stops for a thousand dollars....." One can say Sony this and Samsung that, but at the end of the day, their by now old BMCC still runs circles and then stops and murder anything Panasony has tried to release the last couple of years. If we look at just the image. Canon is sort of in the same league with some help from hackers. So is Bolex but they only have one model.

Put some Raw DNGs in the footage download thread so people that are interested can play around. I shot them to test and stretch the DR. One ETTR. one with a few highlights blown and one with a lot of them blown. This image is from the last one. The highlight recovery brought back most of the window.

Here is some 5D Mark III Raw that show its Dynamic Range. In the shot I closed the blinds behind me so the window infront is basically the only light source. So yeah, very much backlit. Same in camera settings on all, exposed with ND. In my examples I set the highlights and shadows the same on all, then I boosted the mids as far as I thought was somewhat usable. I used highlight recovery for the clips with blown highlights. No grading. (Please note that resolve interoperates WB wrong, so set it manually.) Number 1: ETTR, no highlights blown at all. Before After Number 2: ETTR Medium, some blown highlights outside, great job by the recovery. Before After Number 3: ETTR Low, Blew almost the entire window. Before After (look at them clouds returning ) The files: http://www.filedropper.com/justdngs Dropped a LUT on the last one just to give an idea. Not adjusted. -
Yeah I was offered a 20% discount when they where released, kinda regret not getting it. But the 35mm f2.0 IS I have and the other stabilized Canon primes are very affordable to buy used. A Tamron would be almost 3 times the cost. For me the f1.8 vs f2.0 isn't worth it. If the price was closer I would have bought it.

Then the Micro is probably a great buy. Small and light as well, which of course is excellent for a b/c cam. If you arent too picky with resolution and want a Raw camera for slowmo that also doubles as a stills camera and has good lowlight, Im currently testing the 5Dmk3 and Im impressed. Easy to match since you switch it to BMD film.

Because its 315mm in strong wind with a light tripod ans IS turned of. If you read the entire post you quoted "Also notice how in the very last shot the IS really saves the flimsy tripod. I only had my light tripod that was sitting in my car. I bet it would be stable with my Manfrotto 519 that I used in the Red One videos."
-
I did it last week. No problem at all. But you must use the Canon Utility.

Nothing to debunk. Its photography 1.1 and comon knowledge among photographers for 100 years. Its just Tony N and a few others that have people going crazy with their equivalent BS. But at the end of the day. Spend $1000 on a small sensored camcorder and $1000 on a DSLR with a 50/1.8 and you will have two different looking videos.
-
Ive never had any issues with it. Used it on countless projects. But there are better once of course. Imo, its a cinema camera so its just for settings and emergency framing. And in that segment its one of the best screens out there. Much better than the Bolex and the one on the back of the Red One which doesnt show picture at all.

Had a full schedule today but when I popped out to the local store it was a nice sun set. So I decided to take the opportunity to test the lowlight, which was excellent. And the x3 Crop mode which was awesome. Basically it turns my 35mm f2.0 IS into two stabilized primes, 35 and 105mm. And my 24-105/4 IS becomes a stabilized 24-315mm f4... pretty decent range imo. Or one can see it as a 14bit Raw camera with both a Full Frame and a s16 sized sensor. The focus was off in two or three shots since I forgot that EF glas isn't exactly trustworthy at the end of the focus throw. And in the graded shot it is over the top, I wanted the sky to really bleed. Also notice how in the very last shot the IS really saves the flimsy tripod. I only had my light tripod that was sitting in my car. I bet it would be stable with my Manfrotto 519 that I used in the Red One videos.

In short. f1.8 is the same exposure on s16 as on Medium Format. 50mm has the same perspective on s16 as Medium Format. Its just that you have to step back with the s16 since its a crop of the larger sensor. The depth of field is the same, its just that you get the same depth of field on a person filling the s16 frame at 90mm already at 30mm on FF, so you can go closer. The depth of field zoomed in is just a magnification of the same blur. But with that said, it is much easier to shoot wide, get shallow depth of field, have large pixels for lowlight, etc with a large sensor. A simple example, Here is a picture with a large sensor. Here is a picture with a small sensor, with the last picture in the frame just for comparison. In both pictures I did my best to get SDOF.

No, you just took my post out of context. My post was a direct response to another. My post only has to do with that post, noting else. This.

Thats why I added all the dots..... didn't have the energy to google that Futurama picture

Yeah right...

Nope, not angry and screaming. That gets us nowhere. I would be sad to have to let them go. And I think you totally misunderstood me. I never said "don't get angry". I said, don't get angry and waste your brain cells on stupid, non meaningful things like cameras and global shutters. Syria, Pollution, Rapists, they are reasons to get mad. Not batteries or placements of ISO buttons Cool, because if you ordered from Cyberphoto you will get very sweet chocolate indeed. Last time I ordered from hem it was a Twix bar.

How will they physically fit the Medium Format sensor in the phone though? Will be one huge phone.

Exactly, its not like BMD is the only company that does this (Samsung, Fuji, Red, etc). And specially BMD that does it every year, over and over. I have no sympathy for people who put their eggs in their basket when they have done the same thing 3 years in a row (I can of course excuse those who never heard of them before, but still, buy something so expensive without research... not smart imo). And Im a total fanboy. I would love an URSA mini 4K. Ive had 8 total BMD cameras and will over the years buy 8 more. But when NAB comes and they announce something new. I will just keep my cool and say, "sounds good, I will look into it when it is within arms reach, in a store, for me to buy". Just like I did last year.
