A quick beginners guide to the Red One MX
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Yes you can control them atleast with the back display. I can check the hdmi, I suspect its clean. Yes you can record the signal and timecode etc. Its really full featured. -
Played a little with the old Nikkor 50mm f1.4 today. For the price its more than ok. It was a very warm and burning sunset tonight, this first one is a tiny bit graded to give it some blue. f4.0. Next I think was at f2.0, its ungraded in Red Gamma 3. This is also ungraded at f2.0. Lastly, ungraded at f1.4.

Ive been getting a lot of questions about the Red One. Many remind me of when the BMCC was new and people seemed to think it was more difficult than regular cameras and that you could only shoot with thousands of accessories. Back then I did a quick beginners guide on what you needed and how to set it up for a basic shot. So for fun I did a similar thing for the R1, even though I bet not even 1/100 is interested compared to the Blackmagic. Again, this is just on how to get it running and produce an image, not how to make good looking videos Im also still amazed at how enjoyable Redcode is to work with. Ungraded, Redlog Graded Finally a tip if any european is looking. Its a bit pricy compared to mine. But if all those batteries are still good it might be worth it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RED-one-MX-camera-PL-Nikon-mount-/131712086864?hash=item1eaaa6f350%3Ag%3AvEMAAOSwNyFWg8Dh

Sounds like it could be a killer. Didn't realize how extremely small that thing is, very cool. This was also kinda my point the other day about not letting the first 5 troll reviews on B&H bring a camera down. Mostly because they aren't real issues or even real. But even when it is true, real bugs like this, it usually works out if its a serious company. Blackmagic fixed the white orb in the BMPCC and horizontal lines in the BMPC, Bolex corrected compatibility with small HD and now Sony is working on this. Looking forward to following the progress of the camera and how you get along with it. Money

Either a button or touch, no voice control
-
All buttons are reasignable, but one is Display by default.
-
Ive always had that visable at all times. Never needed to touch the screen. Are you saying it goes away when you reboot?
-
The bmpc4k will drop like a stone on the used market when the two minis are available everywhere. Thats why I sold mine, plan to buy it for peanuts
-
You dont suppose its because its been out for years and have had it's bugs fixed? All Im saying is that this isnt new. The first BMCC and BMPCC got nothing but awful and really bad reviews for months. People wrote to me and said I was the first positive reviewer they had seen. Same thing with the bmpc4k. And then, as well as now imo, its mostly people with to high expectations and to little knowlege. And trolls. Either way, personally, I never ever read that type of reviews and never will. Because 99 out of a 100 it doesn't at all mirror the experience from actual well informed users. Plus, we dont even know for sure they are real... Again, it might be true, Im not disputing. Im simply giving you the advice not to take small comments at a store made by anonomys internet people as proof and gospel. Becaue then its time to sell the c100, just like the bmpcc it got so so much hate in the beginning... And as you know it turned out just fine
-
Ive seen endless threads about that on the BMPC4K as well. Never happened to me. Might be true, just saying, don't take anyones word for it. Make sure for yourself. BTW, do you know a camera that has not received many negative reviews and therefor have no smoke and fire...? Because I don't, I don't know of one singe electronic device of any kind that haven't received lots of bad comments. Simply because that's when people generally care to comment.

Would not worry one bit about it. Two broken cameras out of thousands sold. Plus none confirmed. Ive seen way more posts like that about the other Blackmagics, my Red, Canons, NX1 and Sonys I've had but no issues for me Same thing with every camera and piece of electronics out there. If I would take reports like that serious the 5D, D750, C100, FS5, All Reds, All Blackmagic, All Canons, All Samsungs, All Panasonics, All Arris, All cameras ever made would be off limit. To risky, I saw two or three posts of bad once Regarding noise at iso over 400.. yeah its normal if you starve a sensor. I still claim the BMPC4K is my absolute favorite of all the BMDs. Its like buying a roll of B&W film and then complain about the lack of color.
-
I have only seen reports of improvements. What is the issue exactly? EDIT: Just read some of them, they are mostly just complaining about stuff they would have known with 5min of research. Same "issues" like the BMPC4K which is that its not a lowlight camera.
-
No but I love the bmpc4k, cant see how it can not be even better

If anyone was waiting (I was until I got my Red), its the first time its in stock for a non preorder. They have 24h shipping during week days, only one in stock, so Monday for the quickest http://www.scandinavianphoto.se/(X(1)A(AnIJhNWQtMWU3ODMtMODMtMz)A(An2qJ40Xsic1))/produkt/1008509948/blackmagic-design/ursa-mini-4k-ef
-
Imo, Ed talks about the issue. Others talk about Ed. Pretty pontless to argue with those premises.
-
Even if it did get 4K, the video out of the Fujis I've had weren't exactly stellar.

What Camera was this filmed with? Camera and lens guessing
Mattias Burling replied to PannySVHS's topic in Cameras
Im guessing Sony. And since I also lean towards a small sensor I say RX100. -
My R1 has windowed modes for slowmo. IMO its all good. Im not experiencing any "issue" with it. And also, its a crop, so no line skipping or slowmo-aliasing like previous cameras Ive owned. My point I guess is, don't let it ruin an otherwise "perfect" camera (if thats your only beef that is).
-
Didn't bother me one bit during Hateful 8. Looks really nice I would probably be ok with that.
-
The more you lift it the lighter it gets. #beefcake
-
To be honest, abberation have never bothered me much.
-
The 50mm f1.4 works nicely. There really is a certain mojo with Nikons. (the red is pretty sweet to)
-
Got the Nikkor 50mm f1.4 today. Now I just need the 35mm f1.4 that should arrive later this week before my Cheap Vintage Nikkor Set is complete.

Here are two 5Dii Raw DNGs If you haven't I suggest trying Resolve and switch them to BMDFilm LOG. After that they behave pretty much exactly like BMD Prores. Also just setting the LGG and adding a tad of Saturation and Contrast looks nice. Canon colors are still top notch. That's what I didi to the two shots of the dog in the video bellow. http://www.filedropper.com/0000002 http://www.filedropper.com/000000 -
