  1. I got a roll of Kodak 50d today prepaid for a raw scan This is some sharp s8. Dynamic range is kick ass and the skin tones are f...ing amazing imo.
  2. No worries. Its for documenting me, the dog and GF moving in together. Thought s8 would be more appropriate than s16 for such a classic home movie If there are any european s8 shooters out there I higly recommend gaugefilm in England. Got me the roll in 2 days. They develop and scan as well.
  3. Problem is the results. Currently I get better looking images with a DSLR than a mirrorless. Same thing when I got my Blackmagic, "what about external power", "No grip", "Big files", etc. Don't people get that many of us are willing to jump through just about any hoop if it means a better result.
  4. Both yes and no. When I started in the TV-bizz peaking didn't exist. But I got by. I didn't have peaking on my t3i nor my GH3 but still was ok. I tend to use the focus magnification before a shot and then go by feel. On some of my lenses I get a pretty good muscle memory, specially with short focus throws. But sure, peaking would be a nice addition in next gen or with firmware. I use ISO4000 without thinking. 6800 might not look as good as on my XC10 but I haven't tested it properly yet (I'm in the middle of a move so I don't shoot at all right now). Will do a lowlight test soon. It grades more than I would have expected from an 8-Bit camera. I suggest downloading a clip and testing, imo it is nicer in Resolve than in Premiere. Regarding the mount there is not much to say. Not many lenses goes on Nikon. But that's also why I bought one. Almost every time I have bought a nice modern lens I have later on regretting not buying it in a Nikon mount. Essentially I bought a D750 to force my self to build a nice set of Nikon lenses that can go on anything with cheap adapters, cheaper speedboosters and so on.
  5. Maybe not. They will probably do what makes them the most cash. If thats not 4k, why bother.
  6. Thats fine by me. Good 422 HD is good enough.
  7. Ive been secretly hoping for this. The 422 from the xc10 is so nice. Same quality on FF would be crazy. One note, the xc10 has a small 1" sensor but still has a fan to cool it. Guess they could put a bmcc style fan in it but that would probably not sit well with the still shooters. And they are the most important market for a 5div.
  8. Sounds like you would enjoy my video about my Lenovo pc that I use for editing. I discuss the price without feeling uncool. https://youtu.be/Mbev3cMnJk8
  9. True, but it contains a wider Dynamic Range than 12stop C-Log and is equal in DR to BMCC so making it flater isn't really needed and would risk its quality since its only 8-bit and cant be graded as much. Glad Im not the only one
  10. Nikon already beats the A7s in dynamic range with its flat profile. Its imo pretty even with the Blackmagics at 13stops. For me LOG would be nice but not at all needed unless it also meant higher bitrate. What they are doing with their bitrate today is simply mind blowing to me. I cant believe the quality/mbit compared to other brands. Thats why I hope they dont go down the 100mbps 4K road. Imo its no good. For 4k it needs to be minimum 300mbps to become worth it for me. I rather shoot high quality HD than brittle 4k. So Nikon, if your reading, you have something good cooking here. Dont get cought up in the Panasony race. Play it cool. Focus on your great DR and implement things like peaking and false color. 4K can wait and 100mbit isnt worth it. Might as well upscale the HD and save the space. Your ace in the sleeve is your color.
  11. s8 with a manual aperture was a very rare thing. So amateur or not, exposing s8 can be very tricky. I have a "proish" s8 with iris, framerates other than 18 etc. But still prefer my easy auto s8 camera. Otherwise I might as well shoot s16. My point I guess is, s8 looked s8 because of the very simple gear and not so much the lack of understanding from the users. Remove all the auto modes from digital cameras and 99% of youtube will look like..... :)
  12. Nope that's not worth pointing out one single bit. Please link to a forum where I have claimed that its so. All I said was that I don't believe that 90% of all cameras sold goes to a person that has grand children. Either way Tug, Im sorry, but you have reached the status of a "Troll" in my book quite some time ago so I wont debate you. No point since you only read what you want and dismiss facts with your own guesses. I just don't care enough to spend the time. Where I live the big "Best Buy" type of stores carry Olympus, Panasonic, Sony and Fuji. But they are just not selling very well. Not to mention the used prices. I bought the NX1 when it was pretty new. My regular store gave me 20% discount just to try and get the sales going. Now they have stopped carrying it all together. The smaller Panasonics like the gm1 and gx7 are selling well now when they are just under $300. Same with the E-M5. I remember the Sony Nex-5t also got a boost at the $170 with lens sale just before it got taken of shelves. So I think those US stores are simply playing it safe. Inventory costs money and why bother when DSLRs are still selling just fine. Either way its great for me that can buy cheap gear. The little GM1 I picked up is a great house camera that we use for all kinds of stuff. Im also seeing an E-M10ii when it hits 50% of its current price. Should be before spring.
  13. Just for the sake of debate. I have highlighted all the mirror less so they can be found. Strange that so many "grandpas" are buying camera that they push the statistics this way. Most used cameras on Flickr 2014 Top Camera Brand: Canon 13.4% (+0.4% since the year before) Runner ups: Apple (9.6%), Nikon (9.3%), Samsung (5.6%), Sony (4.2%) Best selling cameras as of today on B&H Nikon D750 Sony A7sii Canon 5Dmkiii Sony A7rii Canon Rebel T5 Nikon D810 Canon 7Dii Canon 6D Nikon D7200 Samsung Galaxy Best selling cameras as of today on Amazon Canon EOS Rebel T5 Canon EOS Rebel T5 Kit Canon EOS Rebel T3i Digital SLR Canon EOS 5D Mark III Nikon D3200 Canon EOS 6D Nikon D7200 Nikon D750 Canon EOS Rebel T5i Fujifilm FinePix S8600 Most popular cameras as of today on a Swedish price comparison site. Panasonic GM1 (on sale for $300 with lens) Canon 70D Canon 6D Canon 70Dii Nikon D7200 Canon 700D Nikon D750 Sony A7rii Nikon D610 Samsung NX500 (Price just dropped)
  14. I think the f35 looks awesome as well. Might as well throw the Arriflex into the discussion which coincidentally ends it
  15. I feel the same. I would like to like Sony so much. Specs/$ is amazing but the result isnt. BMD, Bolex, Canon and lately Nikon delivers the footage I want. So Im done trying. Ive had 8 different Sony cameras. Feels enough
  16. save untill you can buy a bmpcc, g7 or similar.
  17. The evf isnt the end of the world since my xc10 and Alphatron has spoiled me and now regular EVFs are just to small. I do miss peaking sometimes, but belive that will be standard in the next generation. Other than that I really dig my d750.
  18. I switched to mirrorless in 2013. But back to DSLR again 2015. Might be the beginning of a trend
  19. Imo Canon is currently the smartest camera maker. Where I live a used 5dmkiii still costs more than a brand new d750. A used a7s costs not even half. So why develop and put out new cameras. Why upgrade the rebel line when it still sells. Why put advanced features in a DSLR when you can sell it for 3 times as much in a C-line. Their profit is falling. But its from proffit. The othets lost money and are now loosing more.
  20. Cool, looked nice. A bit un-bouncy for s8 but still great. I fellow named Scott have been working on the same using the D16 and soft lenses etc. https://youtu.be/9wS1-dP9fNI Personally I just ordered some s8 Kodak Vision to document me and the GF moving to our house this winter. I usualy use 16mm but this felth like a perfect s8 home movie moment.
  21. I like unboxings. Gives me a good feel for the product, build quality, size, accessories included and so on. I have defenitelly based purchase decisions on unboxings.
