Thanks Bob BTW, stumbled by accident on another feature that the camera apparently has, that I was clueless about, but not yet enabled. In a thread about stop motion Joe Rubinstein replied. I especially like the "what do you think" part. Always nice to be able to give inputs. So what are the best options for stop motion? We have a blutooth / wifi card in the camera we have never enabled: 1. We could create a phone app to use with wifi. 2. We could create a phone app to use with blutooth. 3. We could create a custom Lanc box for the bottom of the camera. 4. We could enable the cranks to fire one frame. 5. We could enable one of the USB ports to allow camera control and create a custom app that fires one frame. What do you think?

I did this unboxing in part B&W and part Color with the D16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flA-NBROjAI

I don't need to read up on what I already know. My statement stands: I rather pay $500 extra for a bmpcc if they filtered it out completely than for example buy a mosaic.

I bought the regular D16 (not the M) since its imo pretty much a bmpcc mkiii (the micro is the mkii) and priced similar to anything Blackmagic if you look at what they charge for specs. The way I saw it was bmpcc + SDs for 2h raw + a Tascam DR 100ii + The battery I use for my Blackmagic + a rig to hold it and to help with handheld = $1-1.5k. Then it's the added Global Shutter which is another $500 if you go micro. Of course then you need a monitor also but let's call it even for the 60fps. Then there is no more Moire. What that is worth is individual but I would gladly have payed $500 for it in a bmpcc update. Some other small things like higher resolution, last clip deletion, full size HDMI, off load to CF and such might be worth a little to some. And lastly it's the CCD and the look that gives. And this is the whole point actually. Either you want it or you don't. I did and its worth atleast $500 for me. When I added it all up its imo worth around $2,5-3k. Pretty fare for a cinema camera with those specs if you ask me (I paid 2.3k for the 500gb version and an mft mount is $350 if I decide to get that in the future). That's atleast how I viewed it. For those that don't I totally understand. We all like different gear and looks. So if I was buying it for the same reasons but with the intention to shoot B&W only I would of course consider it because of the extra stop of DR it gives. Ive only seen I think one demo from the M but that looked really good.

No I buy many of them in something that would go on EF and cover a Fullframe just for future proofing. Also it's nice to put an ef adapter on the Bolex or NX1 to get a positive lock. And of course I can then use a bmpcc speedbooster if I buy the MFT mount. But the 10mm and 16mm are C-mount. I already have a Zeiss 28mm and 35mm so the only one left before I would consider the Jena collection complete is a 20mm. But I might skip it and get the Fujinon 25/0.85. Best part is that so far I haven't even spent $350 for 5 nice Zeiss Primes, got to love ebay

I had the Canon 10-18, very light (plastic) but pretty darn sharp for the price . And very affordable. I did a review. Note that there is Zero vignette on APS-C like the C100 with a normal amount of filters stacked. https://youtu.be/T0wkW0q5gfE

Yeah I still can't believe my luck on finding the only used D16 sold so far in Sweden (to my knowledge) and at a sweet price. I now have the Zeiss 16/1.8 and 50/2.8 on the way as well.

I like the A7 as a budget Fullframe for video. You can find them used for less than a $1K here and with lenses ranging from $10-50 its hard to beat. I reviewed mine

Nicely done, I liked the colors alot.

It's graded and grain added to give a vintage feel. But the lens definitely have a look to it and with this camera it is easy to get a "filmic" look. So I guess it's a combination.

Had some time for a quick test of my newly purchased Zeiss Jena 10mm f2.0. Its a C-Mount and didn't cost much on ebay. Could be nice on the Micro since its so small and relatively light. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjrcSV5RyGo

Blackmagic Next Surprise: External 5" 1080p recorder for 495$!

This is from bmcuser where I asked a guy to go ask bmd about peaking, "Yes, the new BMC Video Assist has BOTH focus peaking and false color, according to the person I spoke with. " -
My biggest wonder also. Should be cheap for the current URSA owners.

I'm not against tech and I don't see threads like this as being against it at all. Like said above, you can go both routes. But it's good to be reminded in a thread like this once a month when there is threads about the next camera started a hundred times a day. I rewatch the Revenge of the shootout video from Zacuto every now and then for the same reasons. One part in there I like is when one of them says something like, not even three hotshots in Hollywood knows what camera is being used and most of them don't care. A recent example is the guy I bought the Bolex from. Im pretty sure it's the first copy sold used in Sweden ever but still he lowballed it. And he was totally unaware of how rare it was here and that before today it wasn't even in stores this side of the Atlantic. And then it struck me. The guy is an awaward-winning director with an impressive portfolio on imdb, and he doesn't give a crap about which camera does what. Again, I'm not an Anti GAS crusader, on the contrary, I run a tech review youtube channel for God's sake. It's just good imo to be reminded of this topic every now and then. Once a month sounds good imo

It was something like this that led me to getting a D16 last week. Just started thinking what camera do "I" really want. No focus on which is "best" or at least concidered best nor the latest and greatest. I thought to hell with 4k, 14 stops, super slowo. Instead How do I want my memories to look. When I picture the dog I had before the one in my avatar, what does the memory look like? Is it crisp, saturated, orange teal 4K? Or is it more like an old film? What look would I like my first feature to have and do on. Basically ignoring everything and just look to my self and what I like, not clients or the Internet. One thing lead to another and I now have a used Bolex. Ever since it came out I have re watched Blooms review as well as others footage atleast once a month. Ive always loved it but thought about price, built in ND, lowlight, 4k, slowmotion and so on. Not this time. I have atleast one paid gig where it will be used together with my other camera ahead. But for narative, more personal videos and story telling it will definitely be the A-Cam,. Despite not having the latest specs and party tricks.

That there was no a7sii has been more or less confirmed quite some time ago. The next camera is the a7rii in may if I remember correctly.

There is a new 4K Panasonic camera coming at NAB

That looks like an awesome run n gun cam, will keep an eye on it. -
A mystery 3rd Blackmagic camera is coming at NAB
Mattias Burling replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I already have a s16 camera with global shutter. So selfish as I am Im hoping for a s35 or Highres pocket or a BMCCii. The later might be desired by bmd since it seems the old can't keep up with the newer when it comes to firmware. -
It was new. They are still in stock at that price.
-
Not in Sweden, €1100, that's roughly what I paid. A couple of stores had a limited 20% discount but since this is Sweden they of course didn't sell all. Can't remember any camera besides the bmpcc ever being out of stock here, not even on launch days.
-
Makes the X70, XF1000, AX100 and so on look rather bland all of a sudden. They will probably do with this and the c300ii like they did with the disappointing, low speced and severely hated c100/300.... Great and sell loads of them for years to come.
-
What other 4k s35 camera is there in the price range that can use native mount as well as M39, MD, AR, m42, ef, Nikon and so on, because I would love to buy it.
-
With the bmpcc speed booster it's x0.58. So 50mm x 0.58 = 29mm (81mm FF) Plus the wider aperture of course. http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-BMPCC-BM1

My guess is that the next one would look exactly the same. Because it's their business model to keep cost down. They try to use the same parts as much as possible. If you look at their studio equipment you see the same thing. Same buttons, nobs and screens on everything. Had a long interesting talk with a BMD representative about it when he demoed their broadcast bus and the URSA at a recent expo. I'm hoping for a recorder from bmd and that atomos releases the RAW capture update scheduled for the Shogun.
