Shooting with the Samsung NX500 - a pocket 4K cinema camera
Mattias Burling replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
But you can use loads of cool and cheap vintage glass that's not s16. And s16 wouldn't cover the large APS-C sensor anyway. -
The audio is decent. Usable with the right mic. But dual recording is my preferred MO.

What you and I feel is comparable or in the same price range is pretty irrelevant, people want new stuff all the time. -
It's different. The look of the bmpcc is very nice but it goes in waves and right now I'm getting a little tired of the "Alexa look". Therefor the nice colors and inky blacks of the NX1 feels fresh. Same reason I think the bmpc has the nicest image of all the BMDs, both in HD and 4K. Favorite lens on the bmpcc is the Panasonic 20/1.7. Small, fast and sharp. Yeah I jumped on the fire sale within an hour. Had the extra camera the day after.

If anyone where to sell one in Sweden today they would get at best 70% of retail. That's just how it is for anything non mainstream. Same with Panasonic, bought my gh3 three months after launch for almost half price. As an example, a used 16mm pancake lens for the Samsung in Mint condition cost me 40% of the retail price. Zero people had shown interest in it. People buy and sell all the time. Either it was an impulse buy, they didn't like it, need money for something else and so on. EDIT: Just because of this discussion I had a quick look at the local classifieds and found both the 60 mm macro and 85mm 1.4 at half price. I already spent enough this month but it is tempting :) -

Worth it. You can probably find a used one in a month or so for very little. Samsung beeing some what new still has a really low second hand value. -
No I use an old Mac Mini for 4k and it's fine imo. I agree mercer, the Konica is nice. I bough my second copy yesterday. First time it was $10 and this time $12. Both of course included a nice slr as rear cap. Here is a test from last time. BMPCC With $10 Lens - 40mm f1.8: https://youtu.be/r4ESf-DHJFw

I shoot, edit and upload in 4K. On youtube even HD Upscaled to 4K will look better than 4K Downscaled. It's because youtube allows three times as high bitrate to videos flagged as 4K. I have examples on my channel. Before editing I convert the h.265 to Prores LT. The sensor is aps-c, same as your t2i. Favorite lens so far is the very cheap Yashinon 50/1.9 and the little more expensive ($70) Zeiss Jena. I also have the affordable 30/2 pancake from Samsung.

Thanks, yes 4k has alot of "kick". The nx has a rolling shutter so there is alot of jello in 4K. Much less in HD. IMO after almost a year with the production camera I say, A camera either have a global shutter or it doesn't. I don't compare jello to jello, it's all just plain old jello. But other than that the NX is imo a great camera and I enjoy shooting with it. I will make a review during the upcoming weeks.

Ive enjoy this little pocket 4K "camcorder" vey much so I had to put together a review.

Thank you very much, glad you liked it

So no link to the phone? (don't need to compare, have shot plenty on my bmpcc, bmcc and my favorite, the bmpc. But I don't see how any of them are relevant to this discussion.)
-
You forgot to add "imo". But I am interested in that phone you are talking about. Please share a link. I would buy it instantly if you say it will give me the same results as I get with my NX1.

Also since there is discussion about Yashica 50mm. I shoot alot of medium format film with Yashica cameras. And on the fixed lens cameras from Yashica it's usually "Yashinon" that is the gems over the "Yashikor" That's why I took the plunge and SSD spent $10 on the 50/1.9. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAJVKLbcxuA It works very well on the NX1 as well.

Here is a test with the Jena 35/2.8 I posted earlier.
-
This is a rather boring test of the NX1 with, Yashinon 50/1.9, Yashikor 200/3.5 and Zeiss Jena 35/2.8.
-
Picked up classic Zeiss Jena 35mm f2.8 On the NX1, Quick test in aperture mode. Yes its blurry, that's because of handheld in insufficient light with an obviously to slow shutter. I'm sharing it anyway just to say, if you have an NX1 or I guess NX500 and haven't tried the camera manager app to transfer pictures (and the nfc pairing) you should. I've had a lot of cameras with "smart" functions but this is by far the best so far. I will get back to you with video samples.

It's just upscaled. I did some tests a while back that showed that youtubes compression is so bad that hd upscaled and 4k looks pretty much the same. But when upscaled youtube enables three times the bitrate and when viewed in 1080p the resolution is back to normal but you still gained the higher bitrate. Same with good HD from the bmpc and 4k downscaled, on youtube it looks the same.

Samsung NX1 - $1500 4K Cinema Camera! Test!
Mattias Burling replied to Micah Mahaffey's topic in Cameras
Some nice looking clips there. Look forward to you short film. -
(First time poster, loooong time lurker) I always go for the old saying of "One good zoom and lots of primes". And Im a vintage lens horder so naturally I recommend getting couple of those as well. For the NX I have some Konicas and m42. Here is a quick test I did with a Yashinon 50/1.9, that I payed 10 bucks for, as well as a Yashikor 200/3.5. I think they give a funky look that can be handy for some more artsy stuff.
