I would even choose the GX7 over the GX80. For me usability is at the top of the spec list. I rather not give up control to save a buck. If the GX9 follows the GX80 price it will drop 50% on sale within a few months. If the 4K is cropped or not doesn't matter to me. Anything over 1" is fine.

The grip brings it closer to the GX7 ergonomics. The lauout is GX8. And best of all, tilt EVF. Imo this is an upgrade both for the gx8 and gx85. And it makes sense. Kill the middle line. Just like Nikon, Pentax and in a sense Canon has done.

It seems like they have kept what I liked in my GX7 and improved on what I didn't like on the GX8. This could turn out to be one helluva camera.

Any links to the footage you shot? Could be interesting to analyze why your results are so bad when so many get good results.

I would consider the Rokinon/Samyang AF 35mm as a good compact All round with auto focus. Or a used Zeiss 35/2.8 which has serious mojo.

I have a soft spot for it.(the evf btw is gorgeous). And now days you can choose between zeiss glass (50% on the used market), affordable autofocus rokinon glass, or dirt cheap vintage. For stills, For video, And a video sample in MF,

Didn't the GX8 already have that? If so they probably will keep it. The only thing missing in the GX8 imo was IBIS in 4K. It even had cinelike D.

They are kinda using the same nomenclature as Canon and Nikon. Higher number is lower end segment. First number is generation. Gx8, gx80, gx800 7D, 70D, 700d Etc

It is a bang/$ champion. This was shot on the old GH3 + Voigt 25mm and Sigma 60mm f2.8. All tele looking shots are the Sigma, for example the gentlemen with the news papers in the beginning looks nice and detailed imo.

I have never seen anyone say anything about the GH5 being bad. At least not on this forum.

This happens a lot to me. Reviewing some old clip and thinking "wow, what camera was this?". Its so often something like a GH3 or T3i. They have mojo. This week I was shooting stills on a midrange DSLR which has been universally damed as a one of the "worst" video cameras out there. My expectations was so low that I didn't even try it for days. Now I have uploaded a youtube video shot on it. It looks great and no one has said anything. I firmly believe that when we don't "look" for flaws or know what gear was used, we would very often be surprised at what they still can achieve. Yes, stills have looked great for 100 years. Its about the tool at hand. And for me the GH5 doesn't cut it. I sometimes say, "I rather have a picture of Elvis than of the door he walked through (after fiddling with a camera not to my liking)". Regarding video I also believe its more than good enough. I could shoot on a t3i for life. It looks just as good as anything, if one works within the limitations. But just like with stills there can always be development to eliminate such limitations.

Of course. A person could say lots of things. We are all just going by subjective personal feelings here. There is no objectively "better" camera compared to another. For me the GH5 isn't even an option for stills. I mean I could use it and get great shots. But why would I when there are options more suited for my personal way of working. Others should buy what suites them

But was it within a few days from release? The bmpcc was months or even a year after. So relatively that's the natural one

I still don't think a third of the price within the first few days of a cameras life cycle is a "natural price reduction"

For me, -photo quality in good light: huge advantage Fuji. -video quality: tomato tomato in most scenarios. -grip: haven't held the Fuji. Where did you try it? @etidona -controls: Fuji wins -connectivity: dont even care but in my experience Fuji have a better track record. -recording time, overheating, continuous rec: GH5. -lenses: Fuji kills it. -extreme low light and autofocus are also segments where the Fuji might come up ahead. But none of us know yet. That seem like a great attemp to compete. Time will tell.

Imo a third of the price on brand new product is quite substantial. But maybe that's just me.

BMCC and BMPC got something like 30 and 25% price cuts. Which stuck with them.

Spec and features wise its way ahead of the GH5 for stills and close enough in video. At least for my needs. But time will tell, wont know anything until I have tried it. Panasonic have nice video but in the stills department they are always playing catch up. Olympus is ahead imo. Thats not what it means. You are reading it wrong.

You should read both my posts again without your defensive and under attack glasses on. You completely missed the point and read in things that aren't even there. And then you should really read your own post again. Thoroughly. Your even quoting and underlining some of my words that you in the next sentence totally ignore and pretend they mean something else than the actual words.. its weird to say the least. Im out.

But is there an accessory that gives the GH5 manual controls, a proper tilt screen, bigger sensor and X-Trans... If power consumption is important then this might not be the camera for you. For me its somewhere in the bottom of a long list of things I look for in a camera.

Worse DR isn't exactly true. It depends on the ISO. Again, right tool for the job. Price is relative. A photographer that can't get great shots with this camera should focus on skills, not gear. And what the DSLR video thing is about isnt relevant. A still camera manufacturer cant take responsibility for what a few people would like to use their cameras for. 99% of their customers thinks the video is adequate for what they do. And most of them never touch it. This is a stills camera. And therefore I cant say it sucks just because the video isn't better than an FS7. But I've said this already. Ps. A dedicated video camera is smaller, not bigger.
