GRii is still the ultimate street camera imo. Please link if there has been a release this morning that I have missed with a more advanced competitor. Because of yesterday no such camera existed. And its colors are good enough to be voted the best by EOSHD members to name a few places. I don't care what they sell, its not relevant in any way to what the outcome of the two tests. And in the 60s... yeah while we bitch about peaking and electronic shutters in Canikon, Pentax already has it in their DSLRs. Im not gonna have a fanboy debate here. My only points here and all I wanted to say was: According to my blind test Ricoh-Pentax was voted to have the best colors. That thumbnail looked like poop and thats ironic on a color test. Yup, some people that review it today still dot "get" things like snap. They say "why would I use it when I can just go hyperlocal?" When it should be "with snap Im not forced to go hyperlocal with all the negative impacts that has on distances, sharpness and dof". And when I did a little head to head with the competition its size came a long way. I agree. They are the most forward thinking camera maker out there. Samsung feels like an old record player in comparison. But just like them, Pentax will disappear. So will Panasonic or Sony. There isn't room for both imo.

Olympus new, compact and affordable 4K camera

Yes, the 5-series feels really nice. I had the mark1. An E-M5iii would definitely be interesting and should be announced this year if Im not mistaken. -
According to my test conducted here on the forum Ricoh-Pentax won with a huge margin. Also, a color test with a brown thumbnail isnt very reassuring

IMO, FCPX is the best NLE out there for what I do. Ive been working professionally with Premiere and Avid for many years now and Im seriously starting to hate them. So fiddely and flat out dumb. And of course slow. Switching to FCPX is still the biggest leap forward in editing for me. But I remember the initial frustration. It all went away when I decided to learn IT instead of teaching it my way of working. And I have always been able to use LUTs in Final Cut. A funny note. This is the reason why I was the first guy to really try the XC-10 and LS300. True story. Ever since my epiphany in FXPX I started applying it to other stuff. When I see a product get super bashed by people based on specs or quick reviews my new way of thinking is: "That cant be. No way did a big company do all this research and spend money but some how didn't know it would be like this. Its more likely the users that are trying to force their ways and preferences onto the product instead of learning it and how it was intended to be used." So I tried the XC10, LS300, Leica T, Sigma cameras, etc. Had alot of fun with all of them. And now Canons new compact and the Leica CL looks very promising. A general rule for me is hate = interest (And anything the camera store says is the worst probably rocks. Their negative to positive ratio is unmatched.) BTW I also did a speed test once.

None of it ever bothered me.

For me first order of business when buying a BMD would still be to sell the dongle. It doesn't ad much for me.

Olympus new, compact and affordable 4K camera
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
It is one of my all time favorites. Olympus really have reduced their quality since. Between the E-P5 and Pen-F I would choose the E-P5 any day. -
The reason to use ACR was never because resolve couldn't handle it. The footage in that video is Blackmagic Raw, of course it could handle it. It was for those that wants to use ACR because they like ACR. And it was a workaround to get raw into premiere back in 5.0.

The Sigma 50-100/1.8 is the best zoom lens I ever had. Gorgeous glass.

How about that, totally missed it Still, good thing I waited since I still might prefer the Pen. Will have to try both. Ive already had a GX85. Wont go down that road again. Personally prefered the GX7. -

The ibis and smaller lenses is why the Olympus is at least initially more interesting to me. (Oly colors aren't to shabby either.) -
https://www.43rumors.com/new-olympus-e-pl9-officially-announced/ Ive been very close to buying the PL8 or an omd E-M10ii to use as a small crash cam and for street shooting with vintage glass. As well as some family video. I was waiting because perhaps the E-M10iii would get 4k as well. Not for resolution but to combat the moire. Unfortunately that didn't happen. But this is interesting. It will probably drop in price like the pl8 or get a good early discount. Its definitely on my radar.

Its surprising to me that people still talks about these issues that as far as I know where solved years ago. I have never dropped a single frame, absolutely no issues with live view and there at least used to be audio (not that I would use in camera sound from any stills camera). Never had a bricked camera nor talked to anyone experiencing it. And to get DNGs is exactly that, imo. A walk in the park. Drag-n-Drop and push one button, done. Did you use a decent CF card? Did you have ML on the same card or the SD? What build? How many have you bricked? It would be interesting to finally track down what causes these issues that some seem to experience.

I fixed it.

I got 13 usable stops out of it. There might be other cameras with some spec sheets that looks more impressive, but they cost alot more $$$. And the nr1 spec in my book is the redcode. Editing raw natively in FCPX is such a treat. The size really is the only true downside imo. The start-up time is more a question of attitude

That looks really cool Matt!

As long as we are dreaming... NX2, APS-C, MFT
-
A NX2 would be a no brainer imo. The NX1 with the two S-zooms and a couple of primes surfaces for sub $2k every now and then. With just the short S-zoom and one or two primes they touch $1k. If this rumors reaches "probably" I will go for it just to have the lenses ready.

Imo, compared to a 70d or any mid range DSLR the nx500 is a pretty awful camera. Saying that camera x kills camera y and rip on people that dont agree is naive at best. Opinions are not facts. Not Kais, mine or yours.

Huge upswing in Canon camera sales during 2017
Mattias Burling replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ive had both and must say that for me the a6000 is the better fit. Specs don't mean anything, I'm just going by user experience and final images. But the nx500 is a very capable camera. Dirt cheap as well, for obvious reasons. -

I often look at the a6000 these days. I had it when it was new and very disappointed in the video it produced. But these days its way cheaper new and used it costs less than a pair of sneakers. And given how much stills I shoot it would probably make more sense now. -
This is not my experience. After countless crashes the IT dept at my company caved and made an exception to the rule of PC only. They gave me a Mac and its just like home, zero crashes.. ever. iOS just handles image prossesing, video editing and heavy webb workflow better. And for the same amount of spec/dollar. For some of the webb publishing I do the time efficiency in a side by side was 4h vs 20min on the Mac. For the same tasks.

Philip Bloom only uses a spinner if he has it hooked up to the $5k Zacuto Spinner grip and motor. -

Panasonic will release a spinner with all the bells and whistles. Its just a tad small.
