  1. Yup that's the one. Was a similar story with the penguin.
  2. It was in the first episode. And if it wasn't an albatross I wonder why David Attenborough called it that at least 10 times
  3. I thought the lonely albatross was a sweet story. But I had a hard time not picturing this,
  4. Yeah.. how dare he... because it has such a massive impact on our lives....
  5. I have just spent the evening watching the two first episodes from season 2 of Plant Earth and the behind the scenes of both episodes. On Blu-ray of course The show is just as awesome as season one. It truly is the best shot nature videos ever. I recently saw season one again and it definitely hold up today, but this was beyond. What did you guys think about the show, gear, techniques? Just some thoughts that came to my mind afterwards. The Arri Amira and Red cameras delivered of course, but the shots that blew my mind the most was from a Sony F5. Now its impossible to compare footage from two cameras shot by two completely different teams on different continents, different lights, etc and so forth. But still... the F5 colors blew my f...ing mind. The m4/3 camera (looked like one) that they first tried for flying shoots with the para sailer actually looked really good. They had it mounted on the helmet. To bad they couldn't use the shots. When they ditched that plan and flew tandem they could use something bigger (Sony A7x), it also looked nice. When the scenes are so far apart they could mix ARRI, Red, F5, etc and no matching issues. But within many locations they still used different cameras and shooters and I still never felt it uneven. Boy does sound effects really make or break nature videos. Its a bit funny when considering that more than a few fights on forums regarding video looks and grading have had crusaders of the "real look" and "looking through a window look". And they almost always use nature shows as good examples of "real". Well.. unless they put a law mic on a crocodile, that aint particularly real These where just some thoughts, felt like sharing. Watched with my GF and she couldn't give two shits and a popsicle about the gear The whole thing made me want to buy a BMD and go shoot. At least to go snap nature photos with the X-Pro2 or even better, the Sigma SDQ.
  6. Wierd, here all big electronics chains have a fixed minimum sallary and a bonus based on sales. Specially if they encourages you to buy extras like sd cards, bags, insurance, etc. EDIT: I have just had a quick glance so this isn't in depth facts. But I did find a blog from a guy calling himself a "Best Buy Veteran". "One of Best Buy’s points of pride is that their employees are not paid on commission. Employees are trained to make non-commission statements, informing customers that they are simply paid a flat rate, in an attempt to gain customer trust. This can be a great benefit to the customer, but isn’t the whole story. It’s true that most customer facing employees (like Geek Squad agents or sales staff) are not paid on commission. However, sales are still incentivized in ways that create a commission-like atmosphere. For example, managers have the opportunity to make big bonuses based off of revenue/margin goals. Lower level employees can hit Blue Crew Bucks (a bonus tacked onto a paycheck). And, some employees (like Best Buy For Business) receive commission on sales. None of these practices are unethical, but giving customers the impression that sales performance isn’t rewarded is simply wrong."
  7. I always went ETTR with the clog, always happy with it.
  8. There is a used on with warranty in a store here for roughly $1600. Kinda tempting..
  9. There is also an adapter with close focus and drop in filters. Could drop in a clear one to get 0ND.
  10. I also had one. Didn't find the media very expensive. I think it is somewhere back in this thread that I post some links on the subject.
  11. Cool video. Makes me want to take a ride on ny MB as well as find a good deal on a XC10 (I look for one every day).
  12. They most likely work on a commission. If testing with your own card so you can review the photos is whats needed to make a sale, they will be happy to assist. I do it all the time in similar stores with no fuss.
  13. I paid less than that for my 1DC over a year ago But still, it wasn't a very good camera imho compared to a 5Dmkiii or the LS300 I swapped to. Yeah like all robots those studios sometimes go off. But so could an operator. As a producer I would just analyze cost vs fail frequency vs time saved vs etc. If it saves both time and money without any real loss in quality... sold (unfortunately).
  14. BTW, pretty sure Canon already held such an event when they released the first 4K DSLR back in 2013.. must be one hell of a party if its still going and adding more people to the crew Yup, my first contact with a fully preprogrammed and automated TV-studio was back in 2005-2007. And it was used for national broadcast of a kids television show. Pretty nifty with an editing timeline ready even before shooting. Camera movement, repositioning, zooms, focus, cuts, lights, all automated from a preprogramed timeline. They had one operator standing buy incase they wanted to go in different direction but it wasn't really needed.
  15. I've been asked to handle marketing for an event celebrating the day when people on forums got real with their expectations and that hell just froze.
  16. No making shit up is your thing.. sigh. I meant your youtube videos from the NX1. You know for example the one of the digger that where demolishing a house. Granted it had almost half the image lost in blown out highlights but one could still see it wasn't exactly crystal clear. My guess an operator related issue or a potato lens.
  17. Its more like, we don't care. My apple keyboard does what it should. Never felt the need to change it. I of course know there are "better" stuff around, its the same with everything and all products. I'm sure there are better keyboard, TV, Toilet, Car, Etc than the one you use as well. But that doesn't mean that its because "you assume yours is the best"...
  18. How could anyone think the 6D would get 4K that they waited... its just so weird to me. The chance of it was so so so slim. Just compare the original 6D to the 5Dmkiii. Why would that suddenly change?
  19. Name one company that doesn't communicate profit? Both Panasonic and Sony sure do. Heat pumps and PlayStations that is. If the camera divisions where profitable they would brag about it. They sure took the first opportunity with the units sold during the 4 weeks after a release... You cant deny that can you? That companies try to raise stocks by positive reporting... you know Apple etc.. That the camera divisions are baked in to "other" and such is enough for me to ask you for proof. Not the other way around. But again, I honestly dont care. And talking about business is even more boring than pure specs. As long as the camera makes good images I couldn't care less how their bonus program is doing I know I've said it before but I will try again to stay out of this discussion. Its just so hard when some thinks their preferences and opinions is law and then talk down on others who just want a discussion
  20. No it doesn't mean that at all. Thats coming from you. I dont think Nikon is making money at all nor Ricoh. All I said was that I dont believe Panasonic, Sony and Fuji makes money when I buy one of their interchangeable lens cameras Also you are cherry picking my posts. I have clearly written that the companies are doing well and are profitable. All Im saying is that they are not making money from interchangeable lens cameras. If they did, they would let us know. But would you say selling more UNITS (units does not = profit) for ONE MONTH right after a NEW RELEASE is the same as being "in the greens" ? The market isnt big enough. One of the big brands will fall. But it probably wont be Canon. Not that I care either way, just my observation.
  21. Who said that? Read the fine print of your own post, "full frame" and "jan to Feb", thats 30 days Also, notice the dates... and then go back and look. Where there any major releases of Full Frame Sonys just before that? Where there any realeses by Canikons just before that? Would you say newly released cameras jump the sales in the beginning? Dont you think this makes that graph rather, lets say, favorable to Sony? Also I edited my last post. I found some profit in cameras. But it cant be said it shows that they make money from interchangeable lens camera sales. They might however
  22. That's awesome, Ive never seen that, could you please link to a report showing the numbers of the camera divisions only? Not the annual report I've read where for example Sony has lumped it together with other tech like TVs and sensor sales. Just a clean number of the profits made from selling interchangeable lens cameras. Since you know exactly where it is and where to find it, it shouldn't be any trouble for you to post such a link for everyone to read The best part is that unlike many, you are not gonna answer with "go find it" or "google". Nope you know where it is and you will post it, maybe even highlight the numbers you want us to see. EDIT: I also read through the annual report by Panasonic just for the heck of it. And they also lump their camera division under "other" or one of the other divisions. But luckily you have bothered to check it out and will provide us with a number showing the profit of their interchangeable lens cameras only. You know what. Lets make it more interesting. Ad Fuji to the mix. I believe if you strip away the Instax film business they aren't profitable. So please provide any sort of report, article, evidence, rumor, what ever that shows that Sony, Panasonic or Fuji is making money when I go into a store and buy one of their interchangeable lens cameras. Because as of today I don't think they make a dime. I believe their camera business is bleeding money, just like Samsungs did. The company as a whole are making money (less money). But sooner or later they will reach the end of the road when they have to make a decision. Do we keep bleeding cash in hopes of taking over, or do we pull out (like Samsung)? Prove me wrong and I will admit it immediately Because unlike many I don't care. I'm not trying to protect a precious camera brand, I'm just observing what I see. A market where there are more cameras and camera brands than there are customers. And that's not how one makes money. I would LOVE to be wrong EDIT: 2 Hey I might have found something. Sony isnt even making anual reports anymore. But within the documents they are required by law to turn in I find a little tidbit. They are actually making money from cameras. But units doesnt = cash. Not as mmany as they used to sell either but still might be profit and then I was wrong Buuuut..... Its all cameras. Compact, video, pro video, FS5, action cameras, etc. So is this evidense that hey make money if I walk into a store and buy an a6500..? not really. Bu I will take it. Spread the joy!
