  1. So you say its broken but its still his fault...? Im sorry but I don't get it. Why dont you want all of it to work? If you are happy with it, why not just stay happy but let others try to push Panasonic to make it even better? I just dont see what you gain from constantly ripping on people who wants an improvement of something. Personally I never use AF, ever. Hardly ever for stills. I dont even have the camera (neither does Dougdale, he turned it down until its fixed). Im 99% I will never buy it and I still hope Panasonic fixes it. Because everyone gains from it, including you Ken. It sets a standard and pushes the entire industry.
  2. Also Dave Dougdale which have even more subscribers acknowledged that there is something "wrong" with the AF and he is waiting on a firmware fix of the issue. From what I've seen I must agree. Something isn't how its supposed to be. The tracker follows a face perfectly and still its not in focus... The tracker should stay with the focus.
  3. Log + ETTR is the ticket with that camera also imo. An absolutely gorgeous image.

    Why film?

As a young journalist/producer I almost immediately after school drifted into Radio- and TV-production of entertainment, sports or news. I was a decent writer but didn't have the patience. Im more of an creative director that don't want to spend time doing stuff that I can tell/hire someone else to do. I want full control over projects Any aspirations of fiction and "movies" I had started to fade since I preferred a faster and more "real" medium. Within a few years I had drifted more and stopped making short films all together. My personal video work became documentary and my work left the journalistic side and went into communication, public relations and advertising in a governmental agency. Currently switching jobs again after almost eight years to work public relations, communication and marketing for one single company in the private sector (its a huge company). There I will get to spend enough time making videos that I don't think I will keep it up as a hobby much longer. Other than some youtube and family stuff. But during this whole time my interest for still photography has really grown. Now its almost all I think about. I think the reason is the challenge. To take a situation that you would normally capture with 3-5min of video, audio, grading, angles, movement, slow-motion, effects, music, dialog, and so on. To capture all that in one single frame. Click! I see photographers telling the longest and most engaging stories, really moving me, with just one frame. I still see myself as just a beginner in still photography after some 20 years, 3 of which Ive taken it more seriously. I don't think most of my images tell much of a story at all. And thats why I like it. There is so much to explore and learn. I guess Ive found the ultimate medium for my type of person who wants a quick fix but still have endless possibilities.
  5. I didn't watch the test, didn't see how it was relevant to why the link was posted. Will go back and watch it later.
  6. Because its funny I specially like how he refers to himself as "them" and talks about the EOSHD as a "fiasco".
  7. Don't forget the A7siii WB that sucks. Probably some glitches and loads of banding in Slog-4 as well. Maybe Cine-3 or 4 is better. But lets keep the hope.
  8. It doesn't show the number of cameras sold (it shows dollars). It doesnt show brand by brand. It doesn't show compared to APS-C. Lets say Sony sells 10 FF and 5 APS-C cameras. Nikon sells 1 FF and 500 APS-C. Lets say the profit of one FF is $1 and the profit of the APS-C is $100. Reports like these are made for investors and shareholders. The only way to see if they really are a success is in their bank accounts. But again, I wish Sony well, as long as they start addressing their quality control. Imo, The original A7/r/s are awesome cameras. So was the Nex and maybe the a6000. A7ii/rii/sii, a6300/6500 suck. And I really hope they don't get comfortable and stop improving just because their competitors are fading away. The need to push on.
  9. Is there any source to back up the statement that they have over taken Nikon? (The press release does not show this) Is there a source that shows number of cameras sold? (The press release does not show this) Is there any numbers showing how it usually looks since this is just for the first three months of 2017? (The press release does not show this) What would also be interesting is to see the FF vs Crop sales and of corse where the profit is? Either way its interesting news. I hope every single day that Sony will get their shit together. Because they deliver excellent still cameras. They just need to nail video and quality control.
  10. I have observed the opposite when out shooting. People with cameras shoot other people and images with thought. All photogra I know focus on people. The smartphones are more for collecting an evidence that they where there or a selfie/groupee. The point being that a quick observation isnt worth more than the millions of dollars spent in market research.
  11. My smartphone does all that as well. But many of us that are more than a little active on Instagram use our still cameras. They can also shoot raw, be edited in camera or phone after wifi transfer and then published. It used to be on youtube but now days its way more common for me to be asked on Instagram what camera and settings I use.
  12. Latest figures Ive found says youtube gets 300, 000 new videos every day from its 1 billion users. They also say that they get 300h of video uploaded every hour. The average length of a youtube video is 30-120s. So if we use 1.5m for the example I get the number 17.28 million videos per day. Instagram which is a much younger platform and only has 400 million users (grew from 90m in two years). They receive 80 000 000 photos every day. Does this mean that video isn't the future? No. But these numbers alone tells me that a company that focuses on stills in their camera. And priorities for example wifi over log isnt dumb and going backwards at all. I would say that they are adapting to current times just fine. Because from those uploaded youtube videos I would be very interested to see how many are log, graded, filtered, monitored through hdmi, etc. My guess is not many.
  13. The first one. It was funny and interesting. Choice of camera and style was very appropriate and charming.
  14. You can downgrade a new 5Dmkiii. Ive done it, no problem. But you must use the canon utility.
  15. My point exactly. And the once that do buy cameras do not buy mirrorless. Canon is still crushing the market.
  16. He has been using Canon DSLRs, Sonys, REDs, Smartphones and what not. Of course he would use it. He is probably is offered every camera on the planet. But to say that this is what he is now using and lable him a GH5 shooter... to early imo. He is more of a RED shooter than GH5, let alone Canon. But time will tell. Personally Im starting to becomes sceptical about the GH5 after reading all the heated debates about every little thing. Might have to check it out, haven't really watched any footage yet (that I know of).
  17. I dont belive that and see no evidence of it. I do however see alot that points to the opposite. So were just gonna have to disagree. The majority of regular people who wants a camera other than a smartphone want an APS-C DSLR for stills. Nikon knows this. Thats why they release the d7500. Of course they have looked into satisfying video geeks, so has Canon. But there is no money in it. Corporate gigs is the same as weddings, a tiny tiny tiny spec of a market. If you show up with a GH5 at a company with 10 000 employees thats ONE camera sold. Meanwhile all of the 10 000 probably have a dedicated stills camera at home. Even though these years that number is shrinking due to smartphones. According to sales figures you are way more likely to run into o a Film shooter armed with an Instax camera than a dude settings up his DSLR for video.
  18. Exactly my point. Putting 4K full sensor readout in the d7500 would have been retarded.
  19. Its interesting that people keep on insisting that an APS-C with full sensor readout in 4K is something big companies like Canikon should build and that they would fly of the shelves. Uhm.. remember Samsung? It didn't sell at all. Companies like Canikon dont do stuff at random and without thought. This notion across forums that we the random user possess some magic power that makes us more informed than the people spending billions in research and development is naive at best. The video market is tiny. People go on about specs that would make it easier for some part time wedding shooter. Come on. I live in small town with maybe 100 000 people. Ill be surprised if even 10 shoots weddings. Maybe 100 are into video at all. And by that I mean use a camera, import, edit, export and publish a video on for example social media. But Im pretty sure every single one will at some point in their lifes take and publish a still. People use their phones and if they really get into it they buy a camera with stills in mind. Video geeks like me are a tiny and dying breed. Nikon is on its way down, marketing a new camera for video and have it ending up in the same section as the GH5. In other words having sales people say, "No, for stills you don't want that camera" would be suicide.
  20. I dont know all the specs of any of them but for example 153 vs 51 AF points, dual vs single card slot, weather sealed vs kinda weather sealed. Im sure there is more.
  21. Update: Ricoh issued a statement denying the report, saying that they are focusing on expanding “high-value-added models” (Google translated from Japanese). http://www.itmedia.co.jp/news/articles/1704/12/news063.html I hope they stick with the GR and skip the rest Fuji I think hopes the absolute opposite. The x70 and gr are neck and neck.
  22. This time its one of the smaller and more predictable brands, Ricoh (owner of Pentax). It feels like it was bound to happen. https://pentaxrumors.com/2017/04/11/ricoh-is-considering-to-withdraw-from-the-camera-business/ The Ricoh GR/GRii is one of the most loved street cameras out there and has been for years (I bought one, it holds up to the hype). The GR line goes back all the way to the film days and the 35mm versions are still very expensive and in high demand. Much better value than any digital. Their DSLRs are technical monsters and the Raw files are out of this world imo. But as we have seen in the past, that's not enough. My thoughts, I and many others predicted a few years ago that this would happen soon. The camera market is in no way big enough for all the brands competing. And it still isnt. Even after Samsung left. And Nikon and Panasonics restructuring. Its still to many chefs in a small restaurant. Personally I would be extremely surprised if one of Panasonic, Sony, Olympus or Nikon wont pull the plug, do huge downsizing or get sold within 5 years. (3 years is probably not to far of either.) Fuji might be on the list but as long as their film business keeps on outselling digital it might be fine. Canon and Leica are hugely profitable. Your thoughts?
  23. My link may or may not give you a bigger penis and less hair loss.
